Oceanic community waves goodbye to Aion

JinaexJinaex Member Posts: 44

It would seem that Aion has blocked proxy servers from connecting.

For me, and many others, this is a deal breaker.

Most people in the Oceanic region will be lucky to get a ping of 700 ms (pvp unplayable, rubberbanding occurring frequently).

Using a proxy server brings my ping down to 250, which is quite decent to play with.

Oh, and when i say "it would seem..." that's based on me logging in and the client saying "you cannot connect using this IP"

I, for one, will not continue playing until I can log in using a proxy.

Aion seemed like such a great game, it's unfortunate that this had to happen. NCSoft will lose many of the Oceanic players because of this, and the few that remain will be just that - a few, and the game will dwindle for our timezone ultimately turning into a ghost town... of course all of this can be avioded if they allow proxy servers within a few days again.

[/end rant]

While it's very unfortunate that the Oceanic community gets the short end of the stick, isn't the whole point of NCSoft doing this is to combat the gold sellers and their bots?

Yes it is the point of doing it is to remove china gold farmers.  Blame them not NCSOFT they are doing what is needed and they have no choice.

Is it working though? I mean from what I hear there is no shortage of gold spam and bots. So did blocking the Oceanic players do anything? Because if it didn't, it should be reverted.

My buddy is also having the same problem, cant log into the game.

What does gold seller got to do with Oceanic players? NC even tag a server  for us.

They should ip ban ip address from china, not all of us! This doesnt make sense...

Why didn't they just put the servers in the right places from the get go....

This is an example of why companies shouldn't just use the cheapest and simplest solution to solve their problems.

At the end of the day, they want to retain their subscribers who are threatening to leave because of the spam/gold selling etc.

"How about we employ a few extra GM's to ban spamming accounts?"

"No, that would cost us money, and some accounts are hacked, so we would have to hire more people to give hacked accounts / items back to the stupid players that click on stupid links. We should just ban every proxy IP, this won't cost us anything"

"But what about the gamers that use these IP's to lower their pings?"

"F%ck em, they can play with higher pings, we already got their money, and because most wont be level cap when their 1st month runs out, they will renew their subscription because when your grinding, you dont really need to have good ping. In the interim lets just lie to them telling them that we will let them use it again once we solve the gold selling problem - which isn't going to happen. HAR HAR HAR"

So don't tell me the gold sellers are the problem, because that's like saying "Ah sorry dear lad, you are dying because you have cancer. We aren't going to do anything about it though, because it's the cancers fault. So blame cancer.... OH , WAIT! we can chop your arm off without anaesthesia, it won't cure your cancer, but at least you won't feel the pain the cancer is causing for a while"

for some reason i get the feeling this guy dont realy know what he talking about. this was a north american release so they have every right if they want to block a certian areas ip.and let me ask u this if u owned a company would u pay someoen 40k a year just to sit in a chair and ban people from a game. and dont say u will cause u wont. gold spaming is a probalem but if u play outside of the service area u have to expect something like this

Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but how does using a proxy server improve ping times?  As opposed to going through what?

I'd never consider going through a proxy here in the states, seems like that could only slow things down.

Feel free to point me to a link somewhere if its easier to explain that way.

I still baffled how they can get 2 mill+ players in Korea and China correct but yet have so many issues with only 400k NA/EU. Think about that for a few and get back to me.

I would be correct, but NCsoft try to sell aion to the Australian community, and tell them to log on the US server.

Lastly, I dont' think banning IP have anything to do with stop botters and gold spamer.

The main reason they ban IP is some region have localized aion server.  And the contract basically says player should play on their own region server.

You shouldn't post in threads like you know what you're saying if you don't understand what is being discussed.

NC is blocking PROXIES not COUNTRIES. The Chinese were using proxies to mask that they were in China so NC blocked Proxies. Now, people in the Oceanic, who for some reason think a proxy improves ping, which is impossible unless they tunnel, are pissed that they can't log in.

Judging from your post, I'd say the "reason" your getting this "feeling" is quite clear.

if i owned a company, I'd pay four people 40k a year if that prevents tens of thousands of people from canceling their subscriptions.

Furthermore, I'm not "outside the service area", if I was then why the hell are they marketing the game here?

+ the proxy has a North American IP and that's what they are banning.

Please don't post rubbish like that again, you just confuse people and sound like a retard

My net "speed" is the speed of light.

    my "bandwidth" is 21mbps.

Like I said, in PvE it's not an issue, but let's see you PvP with that 650 ping
