Well so far I'm liking WoW quite a bit. I've played all the mainstream MMORPGs and so far this is the most fun for me. As for all the negative points the original poster listed, the lower population servers don't have so many problems. My guild started out on day one on the Stormreaver server and we did have all the hassles, so after a couple weeks we bit the bullet and moved to a smaller server. No more queue lines, no more horrendous lag (except the rare spike which all MMORPGS have), etc. The game is fun, it's nice to look at, what more can you ask for? But as with any game, opinions will vary.
Originally posted by sifa WoW isnt great at all. Whats so fun about a game that all you do is solo quest/xp?? The graphics are so so at best and down right horid at times. The community in WoW is the worst that ive seen in an mmorpg (played many by the way). Canceled my account after 9 days of play.... The thing i hate most about WoW is the soloing, it makes it impossible for a proper mature community to develop since the player rarely has to work with others to achieve common goals. Not paying 15 bucks a month to get bored to deaths in World of Solo Craft. Dammit, i freakin hate soloing.
..and that what makes this game FUN. Ability to solo, ability to actualy achieve something without the need of a group, without the need of investing 10 hours into a raid to get a rusty sword (overdramatisation). In WoW, u live out your fantasy, a fantasy that allows you to compete on equal terms with anyone else. There wont be such a huge difference in power among guilds, no more "UBER" guilds that would put to shame all others who dont have 15-20 hours per day to play the game. They wont be the same of course, those who play a lot can and will get better items, but at least you havea choice - Do you have 15-20hours daily to invest to get epic items? yes? fine, you will be uber. You dont have 15-20 hours to invest? no? Fine, you wont be uber but you still can kickass. Thats what I love about the game - it actualy gives me a CHOICE. Ive never seen any MMORPGS that gave me that . I hate grind and I hate forced grouping. If you like grouping and/or grind and you hate soloing, then perhaps WoW isnt for you. THere is a LOT of grouping available at higher levels for super duper items, but Its not realy tangible at lower levels. The best way to level (it seems) is to solo all quests, and to group only to complete elite quests or to speed up regular kill x monsters quests. At higher levels (starting with 50-55 perhaps) you can and most likely will group to get into tough instances. It looks to me that you just scratched the very top of the surface and didnt give it another chance. Being in a guild helps a lot too. Peace
Hi everyone, im an old member here and ive been playing Mmorpg for a while. I must say that no mmorpg kept me hooked for more than 2 weeks, but WoW, surelly did.
You can solo, you can party up, you can be a casual gamer (yes!) or an hardcore player. Seriously, they polished so much that game that every single aspect make me smiles.
Yep there is some issues with the server sometime, it really don't drive me crazy, i mean... c'mon i have a life, i just do something else
I feel sorry for the original poster, you were playing a warrior i take, yeah they are a bit underpowered, but they can still be great. I have yet to loose a duel with mine, but it's mainly because i have some experience in the game and have very good gear.
As for sygmas... i think you are looking for attention or something, why are you posting on a game board that you dislike? Aye, you can tell us once that you don't like it... it's ok, but flaming every post telling how WoW sucks seem really childish imo. I like WoW, and I like it alot. It is the only game I am playing. I have noticed one thing in my brief (about a year) foray into MMORPGs. Regardless of the game and the content, there will always be those who wish for more, or less IE. more 'monitioring' or less monitoring. More freedom or more structure. More solo play or more group play. I don't think WoW is perfect but I think it tried to strike some kind of balance for the needs of the many. As those have stated before me, if you want to play 20 hours a day and get to lvl 60 in a month (or less, I have no idea) then you are the uber player. If you only play a few hours a night to have some fun and still enjoy, perfect.
You can't please all of the people all of the time.
I am into it and I hope all these new titles that come out will give those of you still seeking that perfect something more of what it is you are looking for.
My views on WoW are pretty much the same as since i have posted this thread, Blizzard have nerfed 2 soothe spells... Thats about it. All the bugs and imbalances in WoW and thats all they have done. Our server still crashes nightly, even after that 16 hour maintenance that was meant to 'fix' everything...
At lvl60 all there is to do is go crunch instances for better equipment. Most people don't like the idea of killing mobs for 8 hours for a 10%-20% chance an item will drop thats better then their current equipment. When... If... the item drops their whole group rolls on it, even the ones who cant use it.
On that note i have to say that WoW has the worse community of any game i have played. If your in a full group of lvl60's (or any lvl for that matter) and you have one class in the group that can use a 2 hand Axe and one drops.... Normally everyone rolls. Im sure there will be quite a few follow up posts saying "So, whats wrong with that?" but their the people I'm talking about...
Even in the manual you got when you pre-ordered the game it said in detail about the battlegrounds and the karma pvp system... 2 months after release neither are implemented. There have been so little changes to the game since release. Blizzard keep spinning the whole "we were not ready for such a high player base" bullshit that they have been saying since day 1. Its now long after release and everyone has grown tired of this response.
Most of the people i know and have talked to are just sitting around waiting for Blizzard to fix things up. They are starting to wonder if and when Blizzard are going to do anything... And i think this is most of the player base... But WoW is still far from dead, even after so long they can still fix the game. But they wont be able to wait forever.
Sure there will always be Blizzard fan boys who will still cry "OMG BLIZZARD ROCKS STILL YOU NEWB LOL!!!11oneone" but they have just been sitting in front of their WoW screens to long and their brains have been fried to make them partially retarded. But if you want proof of how the current situation is with WoW just go look at their forums.

I agree to some of what you are saying. Blizzard needs to implement honor system and battlegrounds need to come out soon to keep people who reach 60 interested in playing the game. However, I understand that blizzard had to fix some major server issues due to the fact that WoW population was at least double of what they have expected. Change doesnt come easy, they have to fix a lot of stuff. Be patient and they will get honor system going and battlegrounds. I disagree with you on points of who rolls on items - the solution is simple, find a decent guild. You may have to search around a bit but you CAN find a good mature guild. I am glad I found one on Magtheridon after a little bit of searching.
one little thing... if u dont play WoW and not even tried it out.. and dont like it..
WHY are u on the WoW forum? isnt that abit stupid?? u dont have anything better to do with ur time then spend it in a game forum u dont even play?
then u realy need some kind of help to get something else to do.. or get a girlfriend/boyfriend..
there are alot of forums here.. keep in the game forums u DO PLAY..
sure WoW maybe not the greatest game.. or for some not even good.. but thats for the new players themselfs to find out. amd sure u all have a right to say what u think... but to always spam every post that wow is bad... thats a little to mutch

600k ppl playing the game out of hype only... Yeah right !
As far as I know the "Free" month is over and Im still here, as are most players...
Maybe, JUST MAYBE, most people actually like the game. Maybe just maybe many people like myself don't like or just don't have the time to rush to lvl60 where arguably things get boring... And by the time we, the casual player get there (which thankfully is possible with WoW) we will have more to do ?!

You'd be surprised. Britney Spears gets more than 600k album purchases but you can be damn sure its not because shes so talented.

Then why aren't we seeing YOU up there?
Don't be ignorant. Soft skills are as much a talent as anything else. Thats why we pick presidents by who TALKS the best game, instead of throwing them into a pit and making them fight for it like primitive societies.
That she is incredibly talented is a fact. That she's a stank ho is also a fact. But the argument here is whether she's talented, not whether she'd make a good housewife.

MB just ate my previous post
If you don't understand why Britneys and Madonnas sell well thats your problem not mine. They sell a package that has market value and they have the quality to either know how to do it or chose people who know how to do it... Well this is another subject unrelated to this topic IMO. BTW no I don't like their crap music.
I just think WoW is the best MMORPG by so far its not even funny. Its as simple as fun and not fun, grind and not grind, soloable and not soloable. WoW provided to the game base precisely what the game base wanted. If thats not quality I don't really know what quality is. Maybe if the game base wanted something different they would have the quality to provide that.
I don't believe hype can survive past the first free subscription month, horizons has proven that. This is the subject of this thread is it not ?
If what being a good game (MMORPG) means something really different for you or for me, does it matter ? Wouln't it be really stupid for Blizzard to develop something really smart, complex and different that would just appeal to a minority ? Even if the minority is you and me ?
No I didn't play till lvl60 but in the 30s the game is still sharp and actually a lot more interesting than below lvl20. Since I'm in a PvP server i have to be smart and know where and how to detect danger. Which makes everything a lot more interesting. Despite what people say dying is really easy and since you take more risks (low death penalty) you actually end up dying even more often.
thanks for reading this long ass post, the one the MB consumed was shorter and with less BS but hey, Im tired now.
I said it a million times and say it again game stil new of course they gonna have server problems for the first year or so eq was the same and pretty much every new 3d mmorpg just the mass amout of players.Give it awhile they will get stuff fixed and nicely so far i havnt had a single problem everyone else is cryin about .Other than all the moans and crys from other players the game is great and has alot in store for us in the future.
Move to less pop server if youre finding its overcrowded.Argent dawn for exmplae is high at times but never more than 200 people in queue.
Animations. The only bug here i have heard of ,or anyone i asked today has heard of,is the bugged mineral vein. This isnt common either and not exactly game breaking.
The others you list im not sure but would suspect a lot are your side.
Not a fanbois btw as im very angry at the server lag and the downtime and complain on the forums about it a lot. The game isnt a hardcore serious mmo imo liek eq2 .Thats great tho as far as im concerned since casual gamers or people like me who have restricted gameplay time, can enjoy a fun and light mmo and gaming experience.
In the end if you are getting frustrated that much ,id suggest spending less time playing it and try RL more. Youll enjoy both all the more
I like the method used on R.O.S.E to handle server population. Its really the old method Blizzard used. The characters are seperated from the actual server. So that incase a server is full you can still play the same character on a different server. Given the server population cap, and the amount of servers. I am not sure why Blizzard decided not to use this method.
The list of bugs you describe are rather strange. Havent heard ANYONE in my guild or anyone on forums mention these. I have never crashed when logging in ,even when at prime time theres a slight queue. You are on Blackrock.>Blackrock 24,149 players 2.05% of WoW population Move to less pop server if youre finding its overcrowded.Argent dawn for exmplae is high at times but never more than 200 people in queue. Animations. The only bug here i have heard of ,or anyone i asked today has heard of,is the bugged mineral vein. This isnt common either and not exactly game breaking.

This is the solution many people give in regard to people having issues with WoW.
Its not my fault the servers are lagging, im Blizzards customer and so are the other 24,149 people on Blackrock. Its up to them to either let us switch servers with our current chars, upgrade the Blackrock server, or at least supply compensation for the people who have High lvl chars and have to remake. Why should we be punished because Blizzard didn't think of overpopulation issues? FFXI did... They had a backup plan and when a server became overpopulated they made a portal to less populated server. All you had to walk into it and it would transfer your char. So it can be done.
And whats stopping from the next server i join getting to an ''Over populated'' status and making me re roll once more. I made my char on the first day WoW was released and i had no idea the server me and my guild picked will have such problems. We didn't even start having lag issues until around the 2nd month of release and by then it was to late to reroll. But we still could of... But as Blizzard had not released anything on the lag issues we had on our server we just assumed it was a early-game bug that they would fix. Now its getting to the 3month mark and they still ain't fixed it or even gave us any idea's on what their doing.
I had to cancel my account the other day as daily 2000+ people queues were just not worth it. As well as the fact as no end game point to the game and a pointless PvP system that has no rewards. I will re-activate my account in a few months... By then Blizzard would of either died in the ass or fixed their issues.

I understand your concerns and frustration, however, when you buy a car, nobody can guarantee you it will not break down. Everything has its limits, car tires pop when u ride over glass or nails, servers lag when there are too many people logged in. You can usually avoid most of those problems. I am annoyed by IF lag too, but I know there is a lot of things that needed to be fixed, and that Bliz has to set up priorities. I trust them they will do something eventualy. So far they havent let me down. This game is fun, so when i concentrate on the fun part and try avoiding the annoying part then my gameplay is completely enjoyable. Just remember, nothing is perfect in this world. Dont expect your program/.game/car to be perfect in every aspect. There will ALWAYS be a problem. If you cant avoid them or ignore them, then perhaps take a short brake, try something else, come back later. I myself going to take a small timeout (probbly) because there is a nother game I love and i havent played for 2 months since i started playing WoW - its planetside. But I dont know if I can hold myself for long, i love WoW! With each level I see more challenges, more stuff to do, more stuff to explore, I dont want to stop playing...Wish i didnt have a job so I could play both of them Peace
Originally posted by Acaeus not many ppl defending Wow here... Guess they are either busy playing the game or working. Ex EQ1 player here, over a month playing WoW now and having a blast. I'd say its getting better and better as I level.
I've got to throw in an opinion here as well.
I love the game- simply love it.
And I've played DAOC, EVE, WWII Online, Ultima, and Earth and Beyond.
I agree that blizzard needs to allow it's customers to transfer to other servers. At least one time. Plus, if you are being forced to wait to log in, you should be compensated or allowed to transfer. After all you are paying a monthly fee. A high monthly fee on top of the 50 to purchase the game.
As far as server crashes, I have not had that problem yet. Actually the worst problem I have had is lag. The lag seems to be only when a town piles up with raiding alliance players or everyone gets together to duel.
Originally posted by ParaTrooper I play on the Blackrock server as well and I know exactly what your on about. Most of the time though the server is fine but those 1000+ lines for the server is just ridiculous, although it does give me another hour+ browsing the forums before playing the game. ----------------------------------------- ParaTrooper, Staff @ MMORPG.com ParaTrooper@mmorpg.com
You think that is ok, paying 15 bucks a month today? I can see this maybe 6 years ago, but now there is no excuse. They should have a players move theire high level toons to other low pop servers. Even though the game is pretty easy to level, people should not be forced to start all over again on a new server because they want to play normally like advertised.

To threa starter;
The list of bugs you describe are rather strange. Havent heard ANYONE in my guild or anyone on forums mention these.
I have never crashed when logging in ,even when at prime time theres a slight queue.
You are on Blackrock.>
Youll enjoy both all the more
This is the solution many people give in regard to people having issues with WoW.

With each level I see more challenges, more stuff to do, more stuff to explore, I dont want to stop playing...Wish i didnt have a job so I could play both of them
Peace
