You basing the balance question on how long? I think that AoC has it's fair share of being Skill based. Gear Stats in AoC are not everything. Classes are quite varied and different in some cases. Patch 1.05 changed a lot of stuff, as Class Advocate we see many pro's and con's and discussions in this very specifc area. Just my interpretation is that overall out of all classes there seems to be a better general vibe, this is not knocking the work or ignoring the work that is needed further, as being honest there is still a ways to go. If I am new to the game or revisiting the game from last playing 10months ago I would be a betting man in that there has been change. Patch notes are a testament to this. I am not saying things are perfect so please don't take out of context. But c'mon like I said Class Balance changed a lot of things. Right around the corner is a fix for the most popular issues. As in next week.
Skill based in that a melee class has to fire off a 1-3 chain combo, and hit with every step of the combo (on a moving target) to get full potential out of my combo, while a caster has a locked target and can just spam click abilities? It a fundamentally flawed system that will never be balanced unless they cut the damage of casters in half with as much CC as they have. You cant even talk about player skill unless balance is perfect, because if not, class advantage always comes into play.
I'm not saying that there hasnt been change, but that doesnt mean the change has been for the better. I found myself having less fun in game that I did at launch. Maybe next week that will change, but then why not relaunch next week?
You will have to excuse me, but I was still wondering how long did you take to make your mind up. It would be better if you was specific. "I tried the trial for 1 day and found class inbalance to be an issue" just doesn't cut it.
When you have vets who are justing coming to terms with the recent balance patch posting some findings and then we have someone fresh in less that 24 with full on declaration that nothing has changed is pretty strange for me to read.
You have some such generalised statements and no meat to back up. What do you say to the guy that left because he thinks you can't strafe anymore, and you have issues hitting people that do?
I am sorry but there are 2 weeks to re-evaluate. Doing it in less than a day, isn't doing the experience justice or the weak argument that nothing has changed. Having the secondary point of being charged when you don't need to enter in CC info is just there to try and strengthen weak propositions.
If you was to come and say this and this is why I think the balance is off, because of this and this, and this is what is happening and so on then that is good. To moan that you can't hit someone, when all the other posts around are saying the game slowed down and fights are longer doesn't make sense does it. I am confused how there can be one bunch of people leaving who are saying the opposite of what you say. How is one to understand.
Melee has charge ability which has changed, changed the effect for the recipinent. Gear stats and feats have changed, are you re-joining on an older specced character, what level and class are you basing your opinion off?
To be honest, I really dont care enough to argue about it. Read my previous posts if you want to know what I felt was imbalanced about the game. I was clear enough.
My overall point was if you quit before, coming back isnt going to relight any old flames. The same problems that plagued the game at release still exist. The combat has moved in a worse direction.
For the record, I have 5 characters that are 50+, one of them being 80. I played all of them, so I could get a fair observation from multiple perspectives. The game just wasnt any fun. I was excited to download the game and come back, because I did have fun in beta and at launch for the first few months. That excitement was killed quickly when I logged in to find the server filled with nothing but rabid gankers and borked combat mechanics. Sure, the stats looked better, pvp gear looks sweet, but its not nearly enough to save the game.
Oh, and they didnt charge my card but some people in my vent were complaining about Funcom billing them when they had not signed up for a subscription. I believed them because Funcom had billed me before after I had cancelled my sub. I dont know what they did or I did but I only heard that they got charged, I didnt.

The comm. has changed alot since release from adult to childish pvp grashoppers.
I don't know about the us server but the comm. on the german rp-pvp server was very cool at release.
now it is full of bunny hopping childern.
from my expirience 80% of the comm. is 12 year old and not 18 and over, at least they act like that.
Yes, trust the random mmorpg-troll. Don't try a game to make up your own mind.
Not everyone has time to test every single MMO trial out there. People have jobs and lives, that's why they come here to ask for help.
You seem to see yourself as "Troll Hunter #2" which I'm sure makes you feel important, but not everyone who dislikes the game is a troll. AoC sold over million copies but now it has less than 100k subscriptions. Doesn't that tell you anything Mr. Troll Hunter?

lol if you don't have time to even try it, how the hell are you going to find time to play it.
It sounds like one out of ten players still play... and those who play it really enjoy it. Get over yourself.

Well aren't you the bright one. I'm am of course saying that there are so many MMO trials out there today that if I try all of them, it will take me a lifetime.
Do you even realize how long it takes to download all the files required to play AoC trial?
Lets say a person doesn't like instancing in MMOs. He makes an AoC trial account and downloads files for 2-3 days, only to find out that AoC has instances. It would have been much easier for him to just ask about instancing on this forum. Then after getting his reply in 5 minutes, he could have gone to find something else.
"Try it yourself" type of replies are useless. Imagine if you ask your friend if a new movie was good or not. He then replies: "Go watch it yourself!". Pretty dumb, huh?
