World of Warcraft: Top 5 Things Coming In WoW Patch 3.3

Garrett Fuller looks at the top five things players should be drooling about in Patch 3.3 to Blizzard's World of Warcraft.

One of the biggest improvements in Wrath of the Lich King was more involved storytelling, specifically through the Lich King. He kept popping up in different quests and scenes causing trouble and giving you his minions to fight. Now it is time for sweet revenge.

With Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, the Lich King became an iconic character in the game universe. Now Arthas will face millions of players worldwide as they try to bring him down. Having the ability to face him in scaled ten-man or twenty-five-man raids will make the experience fun and exciting. It will also bring some closure to the threads they’ve laid for months.

Read it all here.

" My only concern is how the timing lines up against Cataclysm. My guess is that we will see 3.3 sometime in early 2011, possibly even the end of 2010. If this is correct we will get a good solid year of game play out of Patch 3.3. Mike Morheim said at Blizzcon that Cataclysm would launch in 2010, along with Starcraft II. So the question is how much will Patch 3.3 be worth once Cataclysm comes out? My guess is very little beyond the memories."

    Was this a typo?

LOL, I was just about to post the same thing ;) I think he means 3.3 will come out early 2010 or even late 2009(isnt it late already?). :)

Sorry, that was my mistake on the editing pass. I misread it (thought he was talking about Cataclysm for a second) and changed the years. Fixed.

What about LFG System? Its not coming in the next patch?:( That was the thing i was looking forward for to get some life back into the classic WoW dungeons thats impossible to find group for on a single server.

I hope that they update the Arthas story and raids to match the new level and gear cap.- Make Naxx and UL/ IC 85+ raids and have the new tier 11s drop out of there

The new LFG system will be in 3.3.  Surprising this didn'y make the top 5.

Has a LFG system ever really worked in any game? No reason to believe it will be any better this time around either. (Blizzard already tried once before)

Yeah, instead the author put in the Quest helper part....which like he said, no one cares about because everyone downloads Quest helper, or for the intelligent playerbase, Carbonite. The new LFG system/Cross Realm system is what I personally am looking forward to, even more than the new raids/dungeons because I am a huge alt-a-holic and having this tool updated and being able to run dungeons(especially lower level ones while leveling) will be so much better.

"suppose it needs to be an official in game feature though, finally. I know many people view WoW as the innovator in MMOs. I disagree here. WoW really did not do anything insanely creative with their game. They simply took the best ideas that were out there, packaged them better than anyone else and built a game that had a smooth play system. WoW was built on the backs of Ultima, EverQuest,  and Dark Age Of Camelot"

I've been saying this for 5 years, and  everyone who had played an MMO previous to wow, turned a blind eye. Blizz didn't do anything new. They NEVER have. they just change the way it worked.

and Blizz claimed to "Innovate inventory."

    and people believed them...

I cant believe he left out the new LFG system.

LFG will now allow you to group with people on any server in your battlegroup. LFG just got 40x as many people in it. That is freaking huge for PUGers.

Heck if no extra people start using LFG you will still find at any given time 40-80 people for most instances, and with how easy that will make it to put together a PUG I have a funny feeling many more people will be using it.

Sorry Garrett, but compared to the 5 things on your list, to non-raiders like myself this is the number 1 change for 3.3 and you completely left it off the list.

    Bad article.

New LFG system is like, #1 on everyone's list.

Not to mention Heroics dropping Triumph badges, weekly Raid quests... way to pick the top 5 most superficial features, oh, and by the way, 90% of people who actually do more then just raid will agree.

    Your opinion is immaterial.

Garrett Fuller  sure not in Blizzard's Pocket

Nice flame at the new Quest tracking system

Jon Woods would have wrote a better post on the New Quest Tracking

    The Quest Helper Mod

That we use in the game uses a lot of your interface memory.

also it ask you to update your quest to a website.. in order to help the mod

I am glad that blizzard is making  quest tracking better

i hope also that this will be for other mods as well..

    Sure be better than .....

I got hacked!!!!!  I downloaded a mod from this ....site and it had a key logger..

be nice if blizzard controlled the mods

i sure blizzard would have no need to hack your account.

If these are the best five things they can come up with then they must have run out of anything worth coming up with.

Seriously, who in the hell posts this crap....

I always get all excited when I get my email about some new WoW article from MMORPG and it is nine times out of ten.... CRAP!

Why would you use a top five slot to talk about something everyone does NOT like, OMFG!

This is like reading one of the countless class guides that would tell you to stack spell power on a Death Knight.

I give this article one big /golfclap

Top 1 would be LFG feature.

Honestly I don't like at all the look of tier 10 items, time for blizzard to implement a decent social clothing feature and dyes!

    Quest helper?

I've never used a quest helper of any kind in any game.

    How lame!

That's like cheating..what's the point of playing then? Better off reading a book or watching a movie then.

New 5 mans? I quit the game because of the zerg fest the 5 mans are currently. I don't care to play a game where  there is no strategy. Right now every one just AOEs everything down and the tank AOEs to hold everything .. stupid stupid stupid. The game use to have some fun strategy before WOTLK. Not to mention the sell of virtual items for real life cash. If you don't want that in your games in the future don't support blizzard by subscribing to their game.

"sell of virtual items"?  There must be something seriously FUBAR'd with the education system in NC.

As for Blizzard having a cash shop...guess you'll be giving up MMOs then, amiright?  Since by that definition, every non-garbage game right now is as bad or worse.  On the bright side, you could take your new-found free time and read a book.

Truthfully, the best innovators in MMOs have been WoW mod developers. I believe a lot of things that are standard in MMOs now were first seen as mods in WoW. The smart thing that Blizzard did was to make WoW very easy to create addons for. I don't think WoW would have been nearly as successful without its modding community.

And not that it matters very much, but I think he was talking Cataclysm in that typo. I think he meant to say: "My only concern is how the timing lines up against Cataclysm.
