My suggestion for the the launches outside the USA is to do what I did: wait one week, and go to a low population server.  I did that, and have never experienced a queue or the myriad of other problems that others bitch about daily.

Get over it.  There's a darn good reason why some people bring up the current WOW server mess.  It's that the same people who will now ignore whatever Blizzard messes up, make every excuse they can possibly think of, and blame it on everything from the players to sunspots to the tsunami, endlessly rant and rave about lesser issues in other games =)

But yeah, having read some of these posts, I get it.  The players caused the problems. I have to admit people are right about that.  If there weren't players, Blizzard would have a silky smooth server situation.  Who would have possibly expected or planned for players!!  Those stupid players should have arranged to distribute themselves evenly and coordinate their play times.

    There are actually two reasons.

    1. People who play WoW are pissed off (quite legitimately) because they don't want to start over by switching servers.

    2. People who don't play WoW are delighted they finally have something tangible with which to criticise the game over. Enjoy it while it lasts folks!

Sure there are problems (none of which have affected me since I moved servers) and I'm sure they'll be resolved, but you people who don't even play the game are acting like Blizzard was responsible for the Nazi holocaust. It's quite transparent really.

Ever since I got WoW, I think Firemagic is awesome.

Does this mean I'm turning into a fanboy too?

Go play on a med pop server, problem solved.

Its not that the hardware is crap, they just didnt have enough up at day 1 so the intial servers are overloaded and people wont change servers, glad i did.

The problem is not getting to play the character you've been playing all along. Jumping to another server doesn't solve that problem.

  • paradymeparadyme Member Posts: 238

See I dont really understand what ppl want done about these problems, do they want a server cap only 10,000 ppl per server and after that no one else can join(hope all your friends join at once)? Or do they want an unlimited server where 100,000 ppl can play and u cant even move ur toon in capital city's cuz its packed like time square on New Year's Eve?

  • paradymeparadyme Member Posts: 238

What no one going to reply to that?

  • MorriganMorrigan Member Posts: 242

Truthfully, I don't even think Blizzard knows what to do about it.

However, I agree with the players saying "This is the char I played all along, and I should be able to play this one"

They are right, when they joined that server, it is not their fault that it cannot accomodate the masses. They joined a server in good faith that their character will be there for them to play.

To say the solution is to go to another server and make another character is not viable to them. And then to say to your friends whom you have been playing with, well come to this server to play and all of us remake characters to start yet again.

Everyone else and their brother find this is the only solution. Next thing you know, another server that is whacked and cannot log in to, why? because everyone else is using the same solution. Guess it isn't a solution then.

So then what? They move to yet another server? Musical servers is not my idea of fun either. I want a character I can develop and further, not worry that I cannot even get to it.

I am not a WoW fanboi by any means. I had not even planned on playing that game at first, and have not as yet even purchased it. But I have started to consider it for two main reasons: First, having very limited time available for play, I keep finding reviews stating that this game is not too unfriendly to the casual gamer. And second, my favorite aspect of any MMORPG is the exploration of a new and exiciting world in rich and breath taking detail. I plan on running this game on my laptop which only has a Radion 9600 Mobile card with 64MB of dedicated video memory, but from what I have heard this should be sufficient to have an enjoyable experience.

That being said, I believe Blizzard is running into two major problems. One, I do not believe they expected the success that this game has become and failed to plan properly for server load. More server should have been available from the start. Two, by stopping release of the software to limit new subscriptions until the server issues have been resolved, they may sour the opinion of many would be customers, losing these potiential customers to another MMORPG.

As for server downtime due to the character load on servers it it a double-edged sword. People want to have servers up at all times with no problems. The lighter loaded servers will be able to accomplish this but with a big drawback. People play MMORPG's to interact with other people and friends, there are more people on the heavily loaded servers so your play experience has a higher probability of for interaction. As they say the grass is always greener on the other side.

There are emerging server technonlgies that may be able to help with this issue such as grid computing, but the user PC would still be an issue. I do not believe there is a user out there that could honestly say there PC could handle entering a city with 1000 or more other players within there field of view and not start to experience lag.

Last night I reached the limit of people I can fit on my ignore list. WoW's community is BY FAR the worst out there. Now that all this casino bs has breached I started my search on other MMORPGs (that's why I started the "fav mmorpg and why" topic). The game itself is alright. Get's a little dry sometimes. I read a thing on battlegrounds that they'll be implementing and that looks awesome. I think Blizzard was in too much of a rush to get the game out; so were the players. IMHO, Blizzard should have released the game in the spring because the game isn't finished yet.

Another issue I've come across are the gold farmers that work for IGE. I got two talking and they both offered to sell me gold so I called a GM and an hour later I got an answer. They said they'd look at all the logs and see what was said. I also took screenshots. But, fighting those basilisks with those guys felt like Lineage ][ all over again.

In the end, WoW has some suffering wounds, but once completed, I think the game will be very well rounded.

Other than the (way too often) maintenance time I also have not experienced any problems whatsoever. The game crashed twice in about 2 months, which is not too bad IMO. It clearly still has memory leaks though, keep switching between zones and chars and you will see.

I'm prob OK cause Im on a low pop server, which is why I chose a low pop server to begin with.

I just think as much as people want to bring the game down because of service, its not going to work, its a great game that will get more and more stable over time. The title of this threads is misleading because prob are NOT "growing".

Service can be fixed, cannot fix a game that is broke in the design lvl though.

No MMOG ever release ever has been or ever will be "finished". They inherently represent a perpetual work-in-progress.

Perhaps the intent of your statement quoted above was to suggest that the game was not yet polished enough for release? If so, then I submit to you that WoW is easily the most polished, well-rounded MMOG ever released to market yet.

Ironically, as much as I recommend it as being a good game...I'm not interested in playing it.

its obvious most you people have never played a brand new mmorpg? i mean eq 1 was just as bad only reason eq 2 isnt havin as many problems is because they learned from eq 1's mistake.WoW on the other hand is a brand new game its the baby on the market and is learning the responsibilitys of bein a big time hit mmorpg. After time it will be up and runnin better and personally i havnt had any of these so called problems.

Actually Blizzard is saying soon you will be able to transfer your character onto another server.

     Problem solved for me.

I expect that will cost something, like it has for nearly every MMOG on the market.

First off, this is my first experience starting a MMORPG at it's initial release. So, my opinion may be flawed right there. Just that, how can you release a game that is not at it's full potential from the begining. Iunno, just doesn't sound right to me.

I'm getting to the point where I'm going to do less quests and more gank-PvPing::::40:: and I don't even get a point list of how many kills I've gotten. Eh, we'll have to see how the battlegrounds turn out, because from what I'm reading on the website, they look kickass.

There is no problem if you pick the right server. I have a server I use for alliance, and one for horde. I play the horde much more, but that isn't important. Both of the servers I picked are *never* down. It is awesome; I never have downtime. The trouble starts when you pick a server with high population.
