Originally posted by Hyanmen Originally posted by Aradria MMOs can still evolve quite a lot past WoW. Dynamic and player-created content is the future. I'm sure we'll see more innovation in a few years. I blame the MMO playerbase for hyping up RUBBISH GAMES though. Look at the meat from the start, not the fancy trailers. You SWTOR people might be guilty of this. There is no meat yet, so stop salivating.
Oh really? Nah... Every new MMO must have the crucial limitations such as one class per one character, all races can't be all classes, the battle system must be completely same to every other game, there must be raids, the leveling method and crafting must stay the same ancient way, And quest based progression is the only right approach to take.
The main problem now is that every game seems to use the same world template where things are just *there*. Mobs standing around waiting to be killed, questgivers giving the same quest to 4000 people. None of the recent big-budget MMOs have attempted to deviate from this and create a more dynamic world. I totally believe it's possible to make an MMO with a completely different world feel to the standard WoWclone, and it will come in 5 years or so and blow everything away.
(And then, of course, a few years later people will whine about how it killed the genre and there's nothing new any more)
My guess is wait till more mmorpgs will be on hack and slash and advancing mroe and more on graphics and people will realise how dated X game is when going back.
But until then.... have fun in your games and stop worrying on games you don't play!
Personally I am still enjoying my time on and off of WoW. I take breaks now and then, but I always go back. I really can't wait for Cataclysm. I think it'll be a great expansion and I'm glad to be going back to Azeroth, where prior to the expacs, I spent like 3 and a half years playing. Sure it has some problems and sure I'm annoyed that absolutely nothing can beat it so far, but... instead of maintaining my bitterness about it, I'd rather give in and play and enjoy it and hope to god some other company comes along and makes something worth playing. Unfortunately, it may be a cold day in Hell before that happens. Dare to dream I suppose.
Funny you say this! It's in the middle of its excruciatingly long install as we speak. Since The Escapist is giving away all those free trial codes I decided it was worth it to give it a look-see!
When you give it a go, remember two things: It takes a pretty good PC to run it, and it's new.
Well my PC is very up to date. I haven't had a problem playing anything except for Aion's POS seiges. I can play AoC on Max with full DX10 enabled, so I think I should be okay. The videos are interesting and I'm always looking for something with a little action & storyline to it.
I hear that it has some SWG qualities which is exciting. I've never played SWG aside from a trial-run, but my friend is very nostalgic about it and constantly tells me how much I would have loved it back in the day. Not that I really know if it does have any SWG-like qualities, it's just things that I've read.
I'm more then willing to give it a go, if it would be so inclined to speed up its download. :P
IMHO there's two kind of people. Those that whine of the their present situation and those that act on their present situation. If you don't like something then make something better. You can help in a lot of ways using forums and construtive critism. I've had several ideas implemented into MMORPGS ever since I started gaming.
Quit being silly EMO boys and girls and keep repeating yourselves and discuss who made the turd and start just moving the turd. If you're going to sit in the livingroom waiting for the food then don't complain when the food arrives, since you fucktard did NOTHING to try make it anyway you'd like it. You just sat on your sorry fucktard ass and waited for it to arrive so you could complain!
I could keep on going, but I guess that if you don't get it by now...

Yeah, that download will take you a while. Also, you'll see some things that will remind you of SWG.
Whoaa..... emo goth boys and girls. WOW isn't a bad thing. I have to say that I played WOW and enjoyed it until the Burning Crusade. For me WOW was a legalising of people to play MMO's without being labeled as stupid nerdy pricks without any life. I don't think WOW is revolutionary in any way though. It's just an MMO made on the ideas of other MMOPRGs and based on an already well tested and adapted world.
WOW is the single best thing that happend to MMOPRGS. It opened the marked for the masses and ploved the way for a lot of new MMORPGS, since now the consumers have their eyes open for MMORPGS.
Give WOW a rest already!
Yeah, right..
Best thing that happened to MMORPGS? It only attracted lousy players who I wouldn't want to be in the same MMORPG with. Ever try a PUG in WoW? Ever have a server die because all of the players on that server sucked so much? Because they sucked so much they couldn't form a guild and run through newb instances like Naxx.
WoW attracted newbies to the genre, and its not that they "have a life" and MMO players who play other games "dont have a life". The only difference is that WoW players are less skilled than non-WoW players. Time investment in WoW and other MMORPGs can be pretty similar. Except some MMORPGs require using your brain and others don't.
And you say WoW does not have Nerdy Pricks. WoW has the most degenerates out of any MMORPG out there. Even on the Zek servers in Everquest, people weren't as idiotic as the people from WoW. WoW gets a bunch of the D2 & BNet kiddies & carebears, which is why trying to raid with those players is fail.
WoW -> Bunch of trivial instanced PvE content for newbies. Fake PvP system for carebears
What did it do besides ruin the MMORPG genre?
They need to stop copying WoW, and look for EQ for guidance. EQ is way diff. than WoW in terms of leveling, raiding, PvP. Sick of these carebear MMORPGs..
It seems every single MMO that is released after WoW is the same shit. Instanced shits and carebear pvp. Where are our good old MMORPGs? DAoC, L2 ? DAoC turned into a joke, they injected WoW inside it. L2 is a bot fest. They were G R E A T games. Now, all that remains is Eve Online, the only decent game. BUT BUT, it's a spaceship game...
Here is something for all the MMO devs : Don't you have balls? Stop releasing fast-food MMOSHITs like WoW. Thanks for reading me. MephistoR from pakistan.
They are if you get a dummy like the guy from Alganon admit that it is ok to copy that game.WOW created nothing unique or content wise for gaming at all, what it did is try to make leveling a superficial part of gaming by literally making it as people like to say "carebear".There can be no satisfaction in gaining levels in WOW,however to most ,they are like little kids, they don't care, they just want max level and PVP or RAID so they can goto school and tell all their friends how they are in a great raiding guild lmao.
So the only thing you can copy from WOW is a design to use cheap graphics, questing to level[easy mode] and play instances, pretty weak reasons to game imo.Well there is also the "candy effect" the little kids need their candy ,like pets and mounts.
So to copy WOW make leveling easy, nothing is a skill in the game just quest...quest ...quest and then instance to get tier 1/2/3/4/5...550...670...when does it end lmao.Spell version 1/2/3/4/...500...8000 lmao.If you can't picture how pathetic WOW is right now, imagine wow in another 30 years what it would be like, then maybe the blind will get the picture?
To anyone that pays attention to Blizzard and the game of WOW ,i think the picture is on the wall, that is why they decided to make another mmo. They have no ideas left for WOW,that is why this recent xpac is nothing more than a rehash, the game is done,it's true face is coming forth.Years from now when WOW players are gone from WOW,they will be looking back and admitting how clueless they were for playing such a dumb game design.WOW's design is actually suited to a game with umlimited levels, but the ydid not even design that part correctly,so they are stuck, like i said the game is done,no more ideas.
I think the future of WOW will have to be a complete graphic over haul or they will just go F2P,even the most avid follower, most naive payes will not continue to follow such a hollow game design,Blizzard will have no more tricks up it's sleeve.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Hehe... lets say you get kids and then suddenly they want to learn to ride a bike. Well.. you're not going to let your kids being newbies, because you are the 1337 master fucktard - your kids will learn how to drive a motercycle straight away! Go ahead and kill your kids!
If you are soo durn mature and intelligent then maybe you should go join the Mensa club and start removing the turd instead of whining about the turd. I look forward on the next great MMORPG with you as main designer.
WOW is an execelent game for new players to the MMORPG genre to learn concepts as raids, teaming ect. If you're so 1337 then come and learn me some tricks in EVE - you'll be one of the fucktards that you hate so much for the first couple of months there.

LOL. So WoW is a good game to learn about MMORPGs now? Maybe players can learn what MMORPGs shouldn't be by playing that piece of shit game.
Know why the quality of WoW players is so bad? Because they are playing WoW. If they played a challenging MMORPG, they wouldn't be complete newbies by the time they reached max level. They would do raids and actually learn things.
But no, it's so damn easy that WoW players are incapable of learning anything from the game.
EVE is another carebear game, go see the "Why EVE sucks" post I made in the EVE forums. Eve is all about sitting offline for several months until you're allowed to use certain ships.

You are acting silly now. Just relax, no need to put your finger in everyone's pie.
I don't think they are doomed however as of now dev's have no balls, imagination, no insight for innovation, and no balls. One day someone is going to come along and say step aside douches and make the obvious game that needs to be made.
WoW made a path for newcomers in the MMO world. It`s for casual MMO players, but in a couple of years these newcomers will also want something more hardcore. Just have to wait a couple of years till the puplic starts demanding.
In a couple of years, I`m sure we will be seeing a lot of games following in FFXIs steps. Groups, groups, groups, induvidual importance.

BWAHAHAHAHA! he just called Eve carebear. Come to NullSec and say that. The only way Eve could be *less* carebear is if it physically reached out and punched you in the testicles if you got podded
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. - Douglas Adams
If people are unhappy with current MMOs then take a break, sit down and think about what you like and what you don't like.
Go look for a game that offers what you look for. I you don't find a game that suits you, then you can try and make your own independent game/MMO. It's not impossible. You will just need to invest some time (and maybe a little money) though and go through a learning phase if you lack the needed skills right now.
If not for WoW you would have a lot less players playing the genre and a lot less games coming out. Perhaps you think that is a good thing but it would be a niche market. WoW brought mmo's to the mainstream.

Well.. if you know EVE then you know why he's acting like that. He didn't cut the step learning curve of EVE. He didn't actually understand the concept. EVE could actually learn from WOW here. It's the hardest game I've ever mastered. This fucktard should jsut head back into a "learning mmorpg" like WOW and see if he could understand the basics.
WoW being an abomination is not entirely true, it's more the fault of MMO's devs than it's WoW just being there. They don't have the balls to go a different path than what had been carved for them by WoW.
Eve has very carebear aspect too it....maybe 30% of the game is "hardcore" the other 70% is carebear.
Every game has a carebear aspect of it. EVE just has a very harsh carebear enviroment. I'd like to see a link or two to that 30/70 ratio that you claim. Anyhow, I fail to see the context. WOW is a great game for new players. It's easy to start playing. The fact that sub 10 year olds can play it even if they don't know english is a testomony to this. And a lot of MMORPGs, including EVE, could learn from this.
The success of WOW is because it's brilliant in the early game phase. - combined with the "know and tested world". All in all I wish that all MMORPGS had the chance to put that much work into a game and learn from WOW. I'm not saying that game ought to copy the WOW game - just the concept of it being easy to get into...
to show the carebear....come to anything but null sec and get me...
Empire wardecs... Fooling you with the CONCORD rules in empire. I'd find a way to kill you if I wanted to. You're not safe anywere. EVE is the cruelest game to start at. I could even fuck you over in Jita and you wouldn't even know wtf happend to you!

EQ is the cruelest game to start at, on a PvP server. EVE is carebear, you can only kill players in certain zones.
In EQ you can get killed in town easily, and the guards are too weak to defend low levels from high level players.
Carebear game EVE with hand holding tutorials and thousands of missions where you click a button to warp to the encounter and autopilot.. carebear game
Never played DAoC, L2 was already a bot fest in closed beta, and EVE Online is about as exciting as filling out a tax return.
I'm not exactly sure what the OP is driving at, but I suspect much of it comes from playing the same genre for 10+ years. Scapegoating WoW is a poor substitute for accepting some personal responsibility.
Guess what folks? It's unlikely you'll EVER re-experience the same wonder and charm you had in your first exposure to an MMORPG. You're only a virgin once.

IMHO there's two kind of people. Those that whine of the their present situation and those that act on their present situation. If you don't like something then make something better. You can help in a lot of ways using forums and construtive critism. I've had several ideas implemented into MMORPGS ever since I started gaming.

Give Fallen Earth a try. www.fallenearth.com/
Yeah, that download will take you a while. Also, you'll see some things that will remind you of SWG.
Someone already complained. forums.fallenearth.com/fallenearth/showthread.php

People have to crawl before they walk! Don't worry - you'll get there too some day!

WoW brought mmo's to the mainstream.
less forum trolls and ingame global **** slinging fests from attention whores? Where do I sign up?

Well.. if you know EVE then you know why he's acting like that. He didn't cut the step learning curve of EVE. He didn't actually understand the concept. EVE could actually learn from WOW here. It's the hardest game I've ever mastered. This fucktard should jsut head back into a "learning mmorpg" like WOW and see if he could understand the basics.
Edit for the fucktads: This is the learning curve of MMORPGS.
Eve has very carebear aspect too it....maybe 30% of the game is "hardcore" the other 70% is carebear.
WoW being an abomination is not entirely true, it's more the fault of MMO's devs than it's WoW just being there. They don't have the balls to go a different path than what had been carved for them by WoW.
to show the carebear....come to anything but null sec and get me...
