After seeing a few posters mention this title I decided to check it out on youtube and so forth. Looks pretty nice. Reminds me a lot of SWG but it isn't SWG, which has me hyped about buying this. I might pick it up tonight or tomorrow. So I'm curious... how many people here play this, do you like it and why or why not? Also I was wondering about how much of a patch I'm going to have to download. I really hate a big patch but from what I read the game was just released in late Sept. of this year so I'm hoping it's a small patch.

My friend and I are playing together and its extremely fun and just a breath of fresh air for the genre. I highly recommend it if you are into exploring, crafting, shooting sh!t and just overall feeling immersed in a game world like the good old days of MMO gaming.
I'm definately getting this game. I'll hit you guys up with my IGN when I do. I'm glad to hear the patch is small. I've been pretty bored with all of these MMOs I've been trying out. Hopefully this will be the one to hook me for a year or longer.
I will say that this one came out of nowhere to me, and I try to keep up on MMO developments. I'm having fun in this MMO, mainly because it is different in a lot of ways to the current crop of MMOs. For me the best aspect of this game is the freedom I feel in playing it. Vast, open world, skill-based system, crafting that's complex and fun and open to everyone, a FPS combat system that is fun (far better than SWG:NGE attempt, and on par with DDO I think, though FE is faster paced.) The devs seem to really have an eye out for openness where possible and not unbalancing (sorry muties). All of the 'instances' that I've seen have all been dynamic and open -- that is to say, no loading screen -- so interiors load as you approach them (sort of like Vanguard in that regard).
It has a few bugs, but nothing that is game breaking, and the game play makes up for the little annoyances. It reminds me of playing Daggerfall years ago -- that game was tenfold more buggy, and yet I loved the playing that game.

I love this game. Just hit 45 the current cap and my characters really feels like its mine. Its unique in my guild having a combination of skills no one else in the guild has tried out.
Its a game that takes the best of classic mmo's and combine it with the best the newer generation has invented, you can themepark it as much as you like but you can also play it very much like a sandbox, the choice is yours.
The game is huge, and deep. Its not just a shallow scene in which to do quests after quest. You always have something to do, even at max current lvl you do not stop developing your character and you still have soo much to do.
Did I mention size. I had to go and check some stuff in a couple of towns this morning, jumped on my cargo bike and ended having to drive over 70 km!
Just be warned, there is no fast travel what so ever in the game, there is no respecs, there is very little guidiance, you are on your own in the wasteland and have to live or die by your own choices.
Icarus are very smart people. They have created the game economy in such a way that there can never be any hyper inflation making gold farmers very unhappy. And when it happens, they track all economic flow and capture people that even do secondary or lower steps to cover money transfers. And they ban gold buyers without mercy.
The game also have the best customer service of any MMO ever! There are GMs online at any time which interact with people in the game. If there is a problem they cannot handle they tell you why and where to go and then the higher ups fix the problem for you. The GMs know and understand the game and the players and are generally great people.
All in all its a gem of a game, there are a problems with the roles of certain skills in PvP and that the general pvp goals at the endgame is designed in a way there is very very boring, but the guys at Icarus knows it and they are very quick to fix stuff.

how solo friendly is fallen earth? i heard at the start its tough.
It's a good game. The population is very healthy, and should continue to stay healthy because they employ a single server system.
The game has a very laid back and refreshing pace to it. It's one of the few game's you'll probably actually enjoy crafting and exploring in. It has a massive non-instanced world with an outstanding setting, a really good in-game customer support system, and has a generally helpful community. Even the graphics start to look pretty sharp if you have a machine capable of cranking them up.
It has its problems too, but its a young game from an indy developer, so it has lots of room to grow. If you like free-world RPGs it has a lot to offer and is worth a look.
Very solo friendly. You'll probably die a couple times the first few levels, once you get some good armor and a decent weapon its pretty much a cakewalk, especially if you specialize in melee weapons.
I never died during my trial period. It's definitely solo friendly.

haha you obviously didnt try hard enough.
tip 1- Do Not go buy a rifle as soon as you can use it. Stick to the zip guns, xbows and melee. ammo is way expensive for as much as youll use at early levels.
tip 2- buy and use mutations
tip 3-buy or make a horse as soon as you can and use it to carry your crafting resources between vault visits. itll save you ALOT of room for vendor trash to sell for chips.
tip 4- Dont drink the water.
what role does food play? can you hunt animals and eat them?
yep. you should see the size of the nuggets on those Prairie Chickens!
food/drink gives small short term regen effects mostly
Food and drinks can provide certain buffs, and yes the food you cook is acquired from animals, creatures and critters that you kill, look and skin in the world...

Food gives you bonus to hp/stamina regen as well as some bonus stats. It isnt great but worth having on. Drugs is your best friend, especially if you use melee. You can kill some grind mobs with extreme speed non stop.
Gathering/Crafting isnt worth time in comparision with killing stuff, so if you are going for that I suggest fast level up first and then go for crafting and gathering.

Well I definitely wasn't trying to die! :P Really though, I stuck with melee and my zip gun. I put all my AP into melee-related stats and I seemed to burn through mobs pretty easily. I only made it to level 5 since my comp kept locking up with FE, so it might get a whole lot tougher later on.

I would suggest to indeed not craft right away, but I would strongly advice if you ever want to get into crafting to actualy start with scavaging/harvesting, it will A: Safe you allot of money, else you need you buy/trade everything. And in return also makes you lots of money.
So sure crafting could be put on hold, but harvesting should start right away, especially at the later lvl's in crafting you gonna need high quantity's of resources, besides the scavage/resources you might not need in the end could be sold for some nice chips. (casino chips = currency).
You could just do every quest available and they will grant you plenty of skill books, but if you more of a explorer type I suggest to pick up atleast scavage skill books, so that when you are exploring the world you are able to atleast scavage resources on your journey
Also both Range and Melee are great, only thing is you can pick up melee allot easyer and ranged just takes a tiny bit more time to get it right, what matter is spending your AP at the right Stats/Skills/Trades and buying/using the proper skillbooks.
But do not let people fool you that say that Melee is better, cause it isn't, it only is better if people might have spend their AP wrong, or not wearing the right armor, perhaps they handle the wrong type of weapon, or they didn't buy or used any skillbooks..
A simple example was questions like I kept seeing : "Why can I not beat up or kill a mob 1 lvl up to me" the answer for that lies in wearing the right armor/weapon requirement, as I have spoken with people who had for example a Armor Use of 36 and where wearing Armor requirements of 9 and they did the same with weapons, having a far higher weapon use skill, yet using a weapon with a low requirement rate.
Well I didn't get it "right" the first character I made, who is now more of a Jack of all Trades to explore/experiment with Stats/Skills and Trades, but am trying to do it "right" with my second character, where my main is melee, but my second is Ranged.
Keep in mind it's not just spending AP into Stats/Skills/Trades, but also making sure you get books from Combat/Social/Physics/Weapons Trainers you can learn.
Also keep in mind this is a MMORPG, game is not going anywhere, so no need to rush to cap lvl, but take your time, make sure that regardless if you are a Veteran player in this genre to do the tutorial and actualy try and read/listen to what is said/written, as doing so would eliminate about 80% of the questions I keep seeing being ask in /help channel.
But then again in the end it all matter on what playstyle you like or have and just choose what fits you most, there is no best, but obvious a dedicated crafter with minor combat skills will not beat someone who might have spend all his AP in combat only.
Also there is no respec, for me that is great, for many others it seems like a miss, so for the moment be sure to truly read everything in your AP screen and hoover mouse over all Stats/Skills/Trades, see what works for you, explore the possibilty's, understand you can buy most everything from Merchant NPC's, but crafted goods are better, so make use of auction/community or just your own skills.
Has the gameplay, mob AI, mob pathing, skills, weapons, and the huge lag improved since the beta just before launch?
I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been -Wayne Gretzky
No respec sounds harsh, but if you have too many it causes real issues. About one a month is right and it should be quested for.
For me and my personal playstyle with MMORPG's the gameplay is fine, but then again I can not speak for others as it all depends what type of playstyle you might have to suite the games gameplay.
Mob AI, definitely have seen it done better with other games, it's a shame many just stand there waiting to get slaughtered, some occasionaly move, they do strafe in combat, but other then trying to train a few mobs together or attack several more lvl above player lvl mobs make it somewhat more challenging.
Skills, some are clearly noticeble, some atleast to me seem not to be effective as I think they should and some are more effective then I also think they should, overall trying to find a nice balance/mix in skills, and so far is suitig me well, again can't speak for anyone else.....
Weapons, not really have a problem with effectiveness, other then my first main character not using Stats/Skills/Trades more wisely and made little to no use with Combat/Weapon/Tradeskill books, atleast not at first when I tried Ranged and moved to Melee, as I "thought" it worked better, like I said before I got more into the Stats/Skills/Trades AP aswell different type of books.
Hugh lag, sorry have no issue with hugh lag, just minor lag, mostly in major towns where there are many people in the same area, but for myself I can't even consider it lag just a few hickups, I could understand this can be a problem for those into large scale PVP. But then seeing how little "lag" I have being a EU player, knowing this is ONE server, makes me perhaps slightly more tolerant towards the hickups/lag aswell not being a PVP player, atleast for now I aint into PVP with FE. Must say that even in beta I didn't have much lag, sure a little more then after release, but there is no denying that there is lag, cause there is, but there are just to many factors why some might experiance it more then others and some might experiance it less then others. There is some persistant zig zagging of mobs and creature's at certain area's, it's abit anoying but doesn't effect me while combating them, it's more of a visual anoyence that hopefully will be resolved soon as Icares is aware of that.
Close to nearing a month of play after release I have lost connection twice, fallen thru the ground 1 time and have encountered 1 quest where some pack isn't showing we need to pick up. Comparing these minor issue's with other MMORPG's, I can't say that I have not seen these issue's before and then I am talking about the MMORPG's made by A-title company's. But keep in mind what might seem like minor issues to me doesn't mean that others have to perceive them as minor as for some they might be hugh game breakers or have these issues ocure to them more frequent.
They do say they are working on some sort of respec feature:
• Respec: We will probably have some manner of very limited respec options in the future. What would like to help the people who spend a few points wrong and want to fix those mistakes, not folks who want to rebuild their whole character. The specifics are still up in the air, but it will be expensive, slow, and limited.> http://forums.fallenearth.com/fallenearth/showthread.php?t=23799
Overall I personaly don't feel it's harsh not having respec, I don't know character limit per player, but already know you can have 3 characters atleast, also it's a MMORPG, you don't have to reach lvl cap asap, take your time, get to know the game before jumping on the ride to cap lvl, perhaps you make a few mistakes, learn from them and make another toon that's better, but keep exploring with your main. But I do know many players who do want respec, I would even say probebly the majority of people into this genre.
I was going to add to this thread with my own recommendation for FE, but i think it should be noted that not a single person before me had anything negative to say about it, and that speaks loud enough on it's own.
Oh, and I agree with pretty much everyone above.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
During beta I thought "they'll not be releasing this any time soon" and still they did. I hope people who bought this can get past the bugs. I didn't - I don't give money for the effort. I give money for a finished, well thought-out product.

I'm actually looking forward to respecs.
I'd rather be able to explore different "roads" with my main than begin a altaholics game. Kinda like SWG did it. No being locked in one mode of play, but able to change as you change. Most people I play with prefer to grow attached to one character, instead of having an army of alts... In my gaming circle, alt armies kinda unattaches you from the game and the ""world". It becomes more of "just a game" than a "virtual world" when you're either set in stone or have to use a alt army.
Ofcourse, there is no denying that respecs WILL be missused by FOTM players, but should really one segment of the playerbase deny the fun for the rest?
So, I'm looking forward to respecs, because I like my one character and I don't care what the FOTM'oholic does today or tomorrow.. While I play for years, that kinda player has bailed out to the next big thing to FOTM anyway...

That is perhaps how some people might play alts or those you might know play it that way, I don't play that way, I do get attached to my characters, just one character is more a Jack of All Trades, where my second is the best he can be build into where my JoaT is allowed to make mistakes, I will not repeat them with my second, keep in mind I am that type of player who lives the life of his character ( not meaning spending 24/7 ingame) but the second/minutes/hours I do get to play I get into character, though I often help out in chat out of character cause then the gamer in me is trying to help from a players perspective instead of my characters perspective.
Well I don't really have a army of alts, though I have 3 but only play 2 the otherone might aswell get deleted, my characters are like brothers, carry the same last name and if I would not be wearing head armor you still would see they are very alike, almost twins, but not completely identicle. When creating a alt I always make sure people will either know my alt or will see who I am, I see them as some sort of family member, how's that "just a game" to me that is a virtual world fibe, I could understand those who make alts and you have no idea if you met him or her before, but that is not the way I or those I know play. My gaming circle is somewhat more openminded and simply loves exploring the many possibilty's while still getting atached to the virtual world.
Personaly I feel more attached with my character(s) without having respec, I mean lets say I reach cap lvl and be given respec options, it would eliminate so much content developers have made cause at cap lvl you just re-locate your Stats/SkillTrade skill points without actualy having to worry about how to get them, you just re-locate them, makes me less attached then when I actualy grow into my skills. But hey to each their own, just know not everyone is looking for "just a game" some actualy want or are having a different MMORPG experiance. While being very attached to their character(s). This doesn't mean I do not want a respec to be in the game as like always know I am a niche gamer when it comes to playing MMORPG's and I know the majority play's these games totaly different , though I do see plenty of likeminded people in FE, something that already gives me that feeling I am going to stick to it for quite some time.

Melee is better at PvE. Your beefy, you kill very fast, you can carry more loot, and you don't use tons of resources keeping yourself in ammo.
