Im done with EQ2 Moving on to DNL, held my breath to long with EQ series im finally over it.

Hi, I been playing EQ1 for 5yrs and now that I played EQ2 since release. I am not very happy with this new series. I wish it could have been better for me but the game lacks alot of what I missed in EQ1. This game is full of problems. There is no good looking armor till lvl 35+ and all the characters look ridiculous when they cast, there are lots of these zones called instance zones where you need to get a quest to enter them or have to have 3+ people in group to zone into. I didnt expect to pay my monthly fee, buy the game and still be shoved out of good zone content by SOE just to have to do a quest to get into them. If you die in one these zones your shard cant be recovered 90% the time, even right clicking on door doesnt retrieve shard, there are time limits on re entry. The zones in the game look horible besides Antonica, thundering Steepes, and Enchanted Lands. Some zones like Nektulos Forest look as if they decided to not finish the zone and put in 100's of boxed ares where you will encounter 100's of owl bears and other such crap, to many dead sections and to drab of quality just to hide there incompleted zone. The game lacks any buffing outside of group only buffs, and certain old EQ1 spells are not accesable for friendly use by others such as spirit of the wolf, only group buffing. Supposedly its to reduce or eliminate the Power Leveling but as a paying customer who cares if others PL, the game EQ1 is been 6yrs going and still has 100's of thousands of players. Lots of buffs with 2min or 3min timers that cant be recasted for a long time, how is this good to a group if buff dont stay on for awhile when you are the charcter rebuffing them evry 2min and no break from buffing. To many quests with useless endings of items or lack of no good items and little experience for doing them. Some quests take weeks to do and you only get a small amount exp for completing it and the items outdated by time you finish it. I made it to lvl 40 but im done, to many bugs and ongoing stupidity, I have already seen to many people quiting and I wish i done the same earlier. SOE should have done a better job with this one as its a sequal and shouldnt be watered down. Ohh did I mention the fact that you must pay for extra character slots you normally had in EQ1 6 total now its 4 and you pay for 2 more, and if you stop paying or account goes unpaid 1month you will loose the extra slots and deletion of the characters. Ohh and by the way done get into debt you might never get out and get any good experience going, such a harsh penalty if others die in your group while comming to you if they die you get shared in there debt. HOW DUMB! hehe well cya all in Dark and Light at launch!!

I feel you bezado. Apparently, this game is suckin' for me. I find myself forcing myself to play. I just don't get the EQ1 excitement. WTF is with all these restrictions in EQ2. Feels like I'm forced to do things. We can't buff each other, locked combat. I know locked combat prevents KS but its an RPG. If I wanna attack somethin' daym just let me. You can't attack the guards or nothing!!!! Not that I want to but give us some freedom!!!!! And the two spells?! WTH is with that. I remember in EQ1 there were like at least 8 diff spells per 4lvls. I mean there were soooo many spells. And the zone 1, zone 2, zone 3. Great way to make it immersive!!! NOT. I mean there's so many bad things I can say about this game. It's just all these little things adding up. I haven't given up on EQ2 yet. I'm hopin' the game gets better at high end. (even tho no PVP)

Just read your post about the $$$ charge for extra content. I used to defend SOE with my last breathe. But WTF SOE. I thought ok they charge for extra char. that's fine, they charge for expansions fine they add a whole another continent, they charge all these little bills for miscellaneous things. I thought yea they put all this effort into making such a huge game they have to charge something. But when I heard they chargin for little extra content and zones, they went too far. I know it's about makin' money but DAYM!!!

It sounds as though your entire list of grievances are nothing more than a comparrison to the original EQ. Since you played EQ1 for five years its pretty safe to say you'll judge every game you play by the standard that EQ1 has set (for you).
Theres no way you could move onto DNL and enjoy it - because its not EQ.

Spookytooth, I am sorry but your wrong. My observation is what is evryone elses who is in my position to judge a game based on your opinion. I am judging a game that I have played for and gained further into then you will with the time allowed to me. Have you made lvl 40? Played EQ2? Done any research on anything you love and then find out when you finally get hands on it its not what you expected? Sure this is part of what we do as MMORPG players. EQ1 isnt my best MMORPG, it was my pasion yes and I had lots of fun which I couldnt compare to EQ2. I have played also Asherons Call for 3yrs, Ultima Online for 4yrs, Asherons Call 2, DAOC 2yrs, and countless others. I also work fulltime my own business so dont get me wrong, I am an addicted MMORPG gamer. Sleep deprived person I am, and to take any criticism from someone like yourself who hasnt even been where I have shouldnt talk. I face your kind in countless games where your the griever, sorry that you cant play in a social world or your angry that you havnt achieved the status you wish you could have that someone else has. I am ready for DNL and its gona be great, read all it has and this time I will make it my own, unlike the disapointing EQ2 has to offer.
I will be on a fresh game where I can judge it in the future if it so happens to survive the next 5+ years. And to the above, I am sorry for not using paragraphs. To the ohh I got 1% exp debt im shaking in my boots comment from above, I never said anything about 1% debt, try geting to my level then go in some instance zone and die after a few hours from a mishap then the group cant get there shards back thats serious debt my friend. I can deal with little debt but debt from dumb things is just stupid for a game where they want you to progress, they sure do keep you back enough.

Bezado has every right to post his opinions. He's played low end and high end. And frankly it's the same for me. I'm no where near his lvl but the game blows in comparison to EQ1. Hell I wish someone could erase my memory and I start EQ1 all over again. It was just so much better than EQ2. I used to be an EQ2 diehard fan. Some people know that. But daym when I got my hands on this game I was like, "Wow... no wonder there are so many bad reviews." Good graphics and voice overs only does so much. I'm highly upset with SOE. With all the time, effort, etc. and no pvp and sooo many restrictions. Might as well play a good solo RPG. Forces you to do certain things. Not to mention there's no community. You MUST join a guild or there's no feeling of MMO. Well that's my 2cents. I'm gonna go log on and try to find out where I lost my passion for this game....Maybe I'll find it again...

Namja if you were a hardcore EQ2 fan then how come you got dissapointed that there was no pvp?
Seems even my brother that barely followed EQ2 knew there be no pvp talk less of a die hard fan.
So by the time you decided to buy the game you MUST have been aware there was no pvp so it should not be a reason for you to be upset about the game not been for you since you knew about it for a long time.
First off I don't believe you're level 40, what's you're character's name?
Second, yes Debt is REALLY hard to get rid of, you have to actually NOT GET ANYMORE and it goes away on it's own over time. Whoa pretty tough stuff. Heck you could just play another charactrer and the debt on your first character goes away.
Third, you are not paying for extra slots. You are paying an extra6 dollars to play SWG, Planetside, EQ1, a couple of other games, and when you do that, you are getting a bonus 4 character slots, not 2. On top of all of that, the extra dungeous and stuff you are complaining about paying for are coming for free.
Fourth, I don't understand why people are complaining about paying for the extra things. I mean they are extra. Let's examine this a little closer shall we?
In a regular mmo, let's take City of Heroes (I'd use WoW but I'm afraid this thread would go up in flames). In CoH you get updates that add a few new villians and fix some bugs.
In CoH you get an expansion every year and a half or so that radically alters things.
These are things you get in a regular MMO. These are also the things you get in EQ2 for the regular subscription price. If you pay the regular subsciption price you get EVERYTHING you get in any other MMO.
Now on top of that, EQ2 is offering you things you can't get in any MMO out there. You are getting more content added much quicker. The game altering Expansions will come out much quicker, and you people are complaining about this??
So if SOE just said, like every other MMO, "Yeah we're just going to add a few small things every once in awhile, and maybe add a large chunk of content with an expansion every 18-24 months, that would make everyone happy? Just doesn't make sense to me.
Type Seed Game into your search engine. Go to the game's website and learn about it. It may be the best game you've continued to ignore.

Must admit I was disappointed myself. I stopped playing MMO's for now due to financial reasons but I'm an old EQ1 player from it's release. Now I tried alot of games, DAOC,EQ, AO, Wish(R.I.P.) WoW, EQ2....and honestly if I came back I'd be most likely to try either WoW, CoH, or old EQ1. Why? EQ2 just didn't have that certain something that EQ1 was...you know that thing that made ya play for hours on end?
On EQ I played high and low end...High end was fun due to the rewards of new encounters, gear, etc. Mid end was ok....not the best but you could find crap to do. If nothing else trades. Low end you had the fun of getting enough gear to survive, and enough cash to whup ass.
On EQ2 I tried it a month....forced myself to play every moment I could even when bored out of my skill because I figured..."ok...soon now something interesting will pop up. Maybe a rare item, or cool skill, or zone..." And what I found was low end all the classes were fairly generic. The items were pretty much set, and everyone was looking for the same things. Groups were either too abundant or too few, and when you got a group they either rocked hardcore...or sucked big ass. If you had one idiot the group was ruined. You might spend hours trying to make back the exp from some dipshit.
Furthermore the trades were downright boring. I did like gathering supplies...and loved the combines but lost more money than it was worth usually. My guild even wasn't that entertaining mostly growing smaller as people got bored of the game and left....
I think honestly the main thing that made EQ1 better than EQ2 is the fact EQ1 is NOT SONY's BRAINCHILD. Sony bought EQ1, it didn't make it. Verant Interactive run by Brad McQuaid (sp) is who made the idea and spirit of EQ....Sony just saw the profit in it and bought it. Yes Sony added in the expansions but barring LDON no new ideas were added (and LDoN was kinda a community idea they finally gave into)

I believe Senedor hit the nail on the head when he noted that EQ1 was not SOE's brainchild. SOE is proving that whatever they produce ends up being pure junk. I never played SWG but I hear that it's another fine example of being pure junk.
Like many of you here I played EQ1 from the beginning. We all have fond memories of playing it through the years. Even tons of online friends were made there. EQ1 became a regular part of everyone's life.
So naturally I was very anxious and excited for the new release of EQ2. Not only did I just run out and buy the game but I bought the official strategy guide by "Prima" and a 3 month subscription (good thing I didn'y buy the year sub).
Well the first 3 weeks were like "Wow what great graphics" and "Wow what great voice overs". BUt that was it. The game turned into a treadmill of exp grinding. On top of that SOE came out with a huge patch in early January that caused a graphics stutter on my computer that made it totally unplayable. When I went to the tech help message boards I learned that alot of people had the same problem. Yet SOE refused to admit that there was a problem and that the problem was with our computers. OUR COMPUTERS? The game worked great till they came out with that damn patch in early January.

What's worse is that I'm none too impressed with many of the MMO's that are fixing to come out

If EQ2 had RvR then I think it would definitely be fun to play. But all it offers are fancy shmancy graphics. Heck if I wanted fancy graphics I would've went out and bought me a nice screensaver and stared at that instead.
