I see a ton of media and forums posts surrounding the demise of this game. I cannot see what you people are talking about. I pride myself in being a realist and some things do point in a sour direction, but please let me show you what I see.
The game IS much better than it was when it released. Everyone who plays enjoys the updates, for the most part. New users are flocking to the game like crazy now, and loving it on top of that. I know it's an endless trial, but they are moving on to T2 and subbing to the game. I think the strategy of fixing the major downfalls of the game and the endless T1 trial after was a great move.
The developers have acknowledged the layoffs and have said that they are dedicated to the success of this game. I know much has been put on the war failing side of the scale, but no one is mentioning the things that are going on the war succeeding side.
Just my opinion.

If people are flocking to the game why are they shutting down two more US servers And another EU server?
Because those same people the sub to T2 after the trial are leaving once they get to T3 and experience WAR as a single player game.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
How do you KNOW that loads of new players are subbing to the game? Do you have any proof of this?
Let us forget about other games like Aion, WoW, TOR etc, and focus on War alone.
When Mythic offer the free trial forever in T1, ive read in warhammer alliance and official forums, that its the best tier through out all 4. Some of them even wana cancel their subs and just enjoy T1.
This speaks volumes regarding the game, especially from T2 onwards which needs real subs to maintain the game. Even till now players still complain about T4. Bugs, though greatly reduce is still there esp in huge battle.
Servers is still merging till this day.
Till now Mythic still didnt announce any new contents that's coming out on the horizon. Which personally i believe they really need to do that to let players see the future, to give them hope.
Just looking at these few issues, i really cant see anything bright for the future of War.
Really hope im wrong...
RIP Orc Choppa
to increase general server population further? *shrugs*
That's usually why? Perhaps the traffic on the closed servers was particularly low and they decided to put those servers out of their misery and offer transfers?
Just a guess.
I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.
You all need to learn to spell.

Problem is even with the populations increasing on a few servers and how the game is setup people are too spread out in the different areas. It seems like Mythic never accounted for future possibilitiy of low subs.

All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.
Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
This game is owned by Electronic Arts, and EA has a real fancy for shutting down MMOs. The game has been on a rapid decline since release. That is the reality of the situation even though Mythic is trying to right the course.
I think people could "flock" back to this game, but it would require some major work and serious marketing. Throwing out a free trial to support whatever the latest patch was isn't going to revive the game. I really don't think many people care what the latest patch has fixed and have simply given up on the game.
Adding a 3rd faction would be a giant step to regaining people... again.
Removing the tiered zone system, because it just makes 1/2 of the games content disposable. Cut out half of the levels and make the game 1-20 by combining the removed 20 levels worth of skills, since leveling was not a strength of this game in any way. Make T1 the 1-10 zone and T2/3/4 the world people war in. That makes 1/2 the game world relevant again and gets people into the real action sooner. T2 and T3 are just wasted resources.
Those are just thoughts, but something bigger than fixing a few bugs is needed. Gaining new people isn't going to change much if the problems that caused people to leave remain unchanged. It just populates the game with new people that will quit.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...
WAR needs to go F2P.
It revived DDO and I think it could do the same for WAR. The unlimited trial was step in the right direction, but I think they need to go further. DDO opened a new server after they went F2P.
I hate to see WAR close, but if something doesn't happen very soon then I think the writing is on the wall.
You are right opinion based on blind fanboism. I am sorry, I love WAR, always have, best PvP ever. However About 2 months or so ago I was on Dark Crag, the server had 900 almost 1000 players per faction at peak most days. Aion hit and it dropped to under 300, then i went to another server, and that one never peaks above 500 these days. Dark Crag is now to open transfers off the server. Population is indeed that bad. The game is losing players and is dying, in 6 months either it becomes RTM/F2P, or is shut down.
The changes are great, you are right, most people like them, but a lot do not, this is a case of too little too late I am afraid. I don't think the game can be saved on a P2P platform.

I do hope the game goes f2p so that i can reallly test him properly XD.
if you were a realist you wouldn't be talking about people flocking to the game a day after they announced they were closing down another third of the servers that are left. However many 'new'people you see is clearly offset by the number of people leaving.
If you can't see that at least you can console yourself with the fact that mythic can see that.
Warhammer's Future is...... Bleak.
The only way I will ever resub to this game is if it's Free To Play. It is not worth the monthly free.
It's much better than at release, because at release it was a shoddy piece of crap that Mythic should have been too embarrassed to charge money for.
I'm playing a trial sub right now, because Mythic's not getting any more of my money unless they actually fix this game, which is still no better than a Beta version - with bugs and flaws that have not been fixed after more than a year.

Well most of us sesible EU subscribers knew they were going to close down servers since there was no way in hell that the game could support the amount of servers they threw up. I see this closing of another server in EU as a good thing. Now maybe they can focus on getting... What is it now... two stable servers with good population and work their way back. You know maybe they have learnt from their past mistakes and want to have as few servers as possible whne they launch their free trial to minimize the risk of people getting thinned out. Yes that is a statment of poor population but it does not meant that the decline in subs are the reason to close another server... Also... Was it not the RP server that bit the bullet... Newer seen one of those succede anyhow.
This have been a good conversation
RP server *and* ORvR server actually.
Only core servers left now in the US. I can see what you're saying with the server thing but even still, it's not like the 4 servers left are brimming with players either, despite all the talk some people have of 'surging' subs since the latest patch.
And this is a game that had *64* servers at the start, reduced to 4 now. And still those 4 servers aren't even full. (talking US here)
It might even be that most of the influx' people see is not necessarily new players but already subbed people just logging in more due to the new patch.
Still, from 64 to 4... Say a 'surge' actually happens. What will the difference really be? +2 servers? Maybe? Give or take? It's already hard to imagine at this point to see that happen (+50%), and even then that result would be *so* far below what they started with. (granted 64 servers were never full to begin with though but ~30-40 high servers would probably be a good estimate)
If they honestly expect a surge in subs from the free trials, they are going to be disappointed. The best gameplay overall is in T1, and that is still quite buggy and ragged.
It's not a great advertisement for the game when influence bars and pet control bars go missing. Not to mention moving corpses, frozen animations, and lingering spell effects (yep, those AM and Shammy beams STILL stay on long after the target dies).
Even in the best content, the game is still a shoddy piece of work.
It's a year after release, and the game is still Beta quality at best.

LOL! Are you serious? From over 60 EU servers down to 2 is a good thing? It means it's over and out.
It means there are hardly people left subbed to the game. It means they are losing a lot of money.
The WAR servers have a pretty low population cap and 2 servers is nothing worthwhile to keep the game running for that long anymore.
Just face it. WAR is in a much worse state then AoC atm. Wich isn't doing all that well either. Only Funcom is lucky they don't have the evil satan of the game industry (read EA) dancing above their heads with the big bad axe waiting to be cast down on them.
Cheers
I was simply saying it's better, population wise, than it has been. Seems to be the general opinion that it will fail though. I'm sorry for trying to say good things about a video game on these forums
I can remember before release when Mark Jacobs and the forum fanboys would take all sorts of shots at AoC.
They ring pretty hollow now. AoC will out live Warhammer Online.

Nothing wrong with that. But you are basing assumptions on increased population in T1, because of the endless free trial that is now active.
People playing on their servers, consuming resources and bandwith (wich they need to pay a lot of money for each and every month) and not paying any monthly fee. Isn't doing the game any good. Its only going to cost them more money in the end.
Cheers
I liked all the stuff they added now. Made the UI nicer, obviously some class balancing, and things look different and play better from a gameplay standpoint. Unfortunately, it fails due to poor system optimization, it's still as unoptimized as ever, animations in the distance get dropped to windows movie maker status and there are still glitches and bugs there that just shouldn't be there. When I get stuck falling off a cliff two feet from the ground and I hit the ground dead, you know there's a problem.
I just went back recently and even before my free trial resub ended, I cancelled the trial. I'm just not feeling, it's getting too little over too long of periods of time. Which is sad, because I want to like it.
"IRL is a pretty upstanding MMO with thousands of classes, a lot of PvP and even some pretty unique emotes and titles you can acquire. Explore that world first, then we'll talk about this virtual one."
It's fine to say good things about even this game, but try to stick to the truth. You will get less criticism that way.

War is awesome and now, after I played Aion, I just love WAR much more than before it. THe only thing i complain about is the zergged destro. But now with the underdog system coming in patch 1.3.3, i believe things will be get easier than now for those factin who is losing in the servers.
Black Crag and Phoenix Throne is being closed cuz they couldnt use the endless trial with these servers, they are specific. maybe in a future, that i hope, they can reopen these server again. But I know it´s only my desire.
But what I really dream, is see Warhammer out of EA games. Its a awesome game in a worthless company.
At last, War still being a kickass game, the only problem are the flames who doesnt play, didnt take a look in what it changed and run along the forums saying bs and doing flame.
See you in the battlefield!!! Waaagh!!!! (or something like this Oo)
Go to hell!
As much as I want to see this game get better it most likely won't due to the recent Mythic layoffs and lack of players. It's very hard to believe that this game has anywhere near the 100k player base that's mentioned in some threads here.
I feel that the game that's being played right now is the game that should have shipped on release day. But that's just my opinion.
I can hardly believe the game is sustaining 100k players, paying or not, considering there are how many servers? 6 in total or something to that effect?
