I'd rather have space, instead of tons & tons load screens and small instances and more load screens.

Admittedly I haven't been keeping up with reviews and whatnot for STO, but.. what? What qualifies as "tons & tons" of load screens? Which instancing sections are considered small?

    so...

He's just being a troll, he doesn't have any clue how the game works beyond the short videos they show us. Kids these days are SO cute, aren't they?

I wouldn't be so sure about that one there. If I didn't know for a fact he was wrong, I wouldn't have said anything. Thinking things through before speaking is always a good thing.

Actually, the leaked beta footage showed quite a few loading screens. I'm not sure about "tons & tons," or exactly what his gripe is, but yeah, anyone hoping for a loading screen free game will be disappointed.

My major complaint is that Cryptic made the TNG and DS9 uniforms exclusive to the collector's edition instead of a standard part of the character creator. I refuse to use the pieces of ugly crap Cryptic calls a "Starfleet uniform." It's almost as if this company is trying their hardest to piss off Star Trek fans.

Well, unless you're going to prove how you "know for a fact", I'll just lump you with the "I know something you don't" fanbois that infest all pre-release games and move on.

don't I? I know that every planet is one SMALL instance around orbit and THAT IS IT. Then Sector space is one boring and non-immerse grid that shows all 19 mission hubs (planet instances) and the whole thing is a minimal effort and creating a "universe". YMMV, but to me, this is an on-rails, instance-fest, snoozer that isn't deserving of the Star Trek IP, and Cryptic should be ashamed they're releasing this as a launch client in 1.5 months.

.. then again, these are the same nitwits behind Chumpions Online.

Well I'll probably get the collectors edition for the uniforms and the original style enterprise.  They should have made these regular ingame items though.

I don't think it's possible to NOT piss them off. You know these little freaks -- they have all the lines to the movies memorized, know every detail about every scene, every piece of equipment, and every item of clothing.

I'll bet they willl even wear their convention costumes while playing the game.

The CE doesn't have the Original Enterprise (Constitution class ship) in it.  That's just in the GameStop Pre-Order.  Terrahah if you want both the uniforms AND the Constituation Class you'd have to buy the CE AND the GameStop Pre-Order.

I think somewhere in all that's been released, that the Enterprise and maybe uniforms will be available through the limited RTS system.  Officially all Cryptic has said was cosmetic items so to be sure you'd have to buy the boxes before the game came out.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

Is this the same one they are offering that comes with the exclusive TOS Heavy Cruiser?

The collectors editions does look pretty good. I think I might have to grab it, even if the game isn't the best ever.

Does sound like they have a lot of different pre-order offers on though.

I have to say I've been really disappointed with the way Cryptic has handled preorders for this game. I got mine (non-CE) at a local GS store the day it was available. I paid for the game and the guy handed me a receipt and nothing else. It was a full payment for a game I can't even play yet and nothing - no concept art, dev interviews, nothing. The guy at the counter was so embarrased he dug through a drawer to find a promotional item to give me. I ended up getting a Bakugan carrying case for my step-son. I've bought lots of other pre-orders: CoH, EQII, MxO, and they all had pre-order boxes with some content, a little thanks for supporting them. I guess Cryptic feels unless you shell out 80 bucks for the CE and the crappy little communicator then you're not really worth the effort. Some nod to those who support you, Cryptic. I'll be sure to wait until release if they ever develop another game I'm interested in.

i take it the shop listed here is US only ?

is there going to be a EU shop/link?

  • VarnyVarny Member Posts: 765

Mate said he got into closed beta from buying Champions Online or something and said the game is horrible and heavily instanced. All I've heard from other people are the game is bad so I'm not going to preorder until I've played the beta myself but tbh usually the people are never wrong and after Champions I think I wont probably like it.

interesting, if the communicator actually worked with current service providers and used voice recognition to place calls then I think we could all of forgiven cryptic for the mess they appear to be making of the IP.
