This will be the official "Anime Thread". Post anything about animes here, such as;

-Your favourite anime movie
-Favourite series
-Most anticipated anime
-An anime review

Or anything else related to anime.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Right now I just finished watching Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. I have not gotten into the series yet, i'm an animation whore and I found the series animation a little to gritty and choppy.

But I was exceptionally impressed with the movie. Animation wise, I had no complaints. Some scenes were extremely well done, especially the halloween party in the city. It was fast paced but at the same time you had enough dialogue and character development to actually get to know the characters even if you haven't watched the series.

This isn't really a review because I have no time to get into detail, i'll just say it was an excellent anime movie and I really liked the concept.

Also, my shipment of the "Last Exile" series should arrive either this week or early next week and I will give my thoughts on that shortly afterwards.

    Anime Movies:
    1. Cowboy Bebop: The Movie
    2. Ghost in the Shell 1/2 (can't decide!!! I lean towards 2 for more substance, but I detest CGI in animation... ugh!)
    3. Grave of the Fireflies
    4. Memories (3 shorts = movie, right? :P)
    5. Jin-roh

Series (defined as all volumes released, I could add GitS: SAC, Gungrave, and Samurai Champloo too):
    1. Cowboy Bebop
    2. Berserk
    3. Outlaw Star
    4. Rurouni Kenshin
    5. Hellsing

I really can't wait for the next volumes of Samurai Champloo, I'm convinced Shinichiro Watanabe(sp?) is an effing genius. Cowboy Bebop series and movie = fantastic, his Animatrix shorts = great, haven't watched Macross Plus yet... He hasn't done much, but he's got a good track record. The way he blends music and image is amazing. Jazz was to Bebop as Hip-hop is to Champloo. It's like watching a music video, but with an amazing story to go with it. I also can't wait for Stand Alone Complex to finish up, damn good series. Like CSI in the future... and like 100x better than CSI, CSI sucks, it's just the most popular example. Gungrave, well the first 2 volumes have all been Beyond the Grave's past, which is interesting, but I'd like to see him kick some ass. I have vol. 3 of both series, but have yet to watch them. I also can't wait for someone to come to their senses and re-release Gits: Innosence. The Dreamworks version sucks soooo bad. I really think buying a better version would be worth it, even though I already bought the sucky version.

Also looking forward to Howl's Moving Castle (Miyazaki) and Steamboy (Otomo).

Haven't tried Last Exile yet, heard many good things though.

Bad things in the future: Live-action Battle Angel... ughness.

Yoko Kanno is about the greatest artist ever. All my mix CD's are like half her music. Her Bebop music is probably my favorite, though SAC is up there. Kenji Kawai from GitS is incredible too.

I only really like Anime movies... im not attracted to series. I think some of the best movies as far as animation go are Miyazaki's movies (Princess Mononoke, Totoro, Spirited Away, etc). The story can sometimes be a little hard to understand since they invlolve a lot of Japanese/Asian myths/legends (my friend from Thiawan helped to explain them though) but the animation is superb and the movies are just beautiful to watch.

I also really liked Akira, pretty cool story, nice animation and great backgrounds.

Ghost in the Shell was pretty confusing but it had some awsome art.

Spriggan was alright, not my favorite.

Last Exile I have only seen the first 2 episodes but they are crazy awesome. Best animation in a series I have ever seen, the setting is very cool and great action.

As for Ghost in the Shell 2, I thought it packed too much philosophy, it becomes too hard to understand. Although it could have been the bad subbing in my version though, that got me lost in the whole plot. The action scenes were amazing, I thought they could have added more.

I am really interested in watching more Studio Ghiblis productions. Spirited Away had rediculously good storytelling and animation. They are like Disney, when they were in their old school productions, (Beauty and the Beast, ect.) but more japanese oriented.

And from what I heard Steamboy is going to be the highest priced anime movie made, ever. Although that's all hearsay, it isn't from a reliable resource. I'd like to know if it's true though.

That's why I think I liked Innosence more. I had all these thoughts in my head about free will, degitized life, etc. and that movie helped organize them, and had a good story to boot.

Ghibli is really awesome, Grave of the Fireflies has to be my favorite from them though. Mononoke is a close second. Spirited Away seemed to me like... a Ghibli film, and nothing more. Just crazy creatures, settings, and mythologies applied to a cliched story.

    Haven't heard that about Steamboy...

Well my favorite series that still hasn't ended is Naruto!!!  I was a huge Dragon Ball Z fan, GT sucked, but I loved Z.  And Naruto pretty much replaced that.  For any DBZ fan, I suggest you download the episodes off www.animesuki.com !  It's not an illegal site because Naruto is not commercialized yet and they only distributed non-commercial fansub animes using torrents.  Be warned, you have to watch at least 10 episodes before the action really starts to kick in... if you can manage to watch at least 10 episodes, you will be hooked and you'll keep downloading episodes!  If I remember correctly we're at 118 episodes right now!  It's a HUGE series!

I'm also downloading Initial D Fourth Stage cause that's the anime that really made me interested in cars!  If you hate cars, don't bother with this anime, although, I was never interested into car tuning until I saw Initial D for the first time! You learn so much from watching this anime, that you might become a car fanatic too!

Then there's there 100 gigs of other comedy animes.  If you wanted f***ed up non-sense anime, download Excel Saga, Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu, Kodomo no Omocha.

If you want ecchi comedie, go for Love Hina, Ai Yori Aoshi... uhh... too many to mention.

Ahhh... there's too many good animes to mention!  I suggest you go on www.animesuki.com and download a couple series!  It's a legal site since they only distribute non-commercial fansub animes.

I don't really enjoy anime but I have read Berserk on my computer, which is a manga. It was pretty good.

Here is some of my favorites:

Full Metal Alchemist - I have seen the first 10 eps and this is what I am currently watching. It is the best anime I have ever seen. It has great story, which is kinda surprising because lots of animes don't.

Rurouni Kenshin - I have seen the first 25 eps. They were pretty good, again pretty in-depth story, though not as in-depth as Full Metal Alchemist.

Yu-Yu Hakusho - Wathed the first 25 eps. They have great fight scenes but almost no story to speak of.

Naruto - I haveo only watched the first ep. It was pretty good though.

Berserk - I have seen nothing of this but I have heard many good things. And the name is cool! ::::01::

I have seen the every full metal alchemist [subtitled is the best way to go] since I really liked the story. It was made by squareenix so it is a surprise why the story was not made into a FFXIII or something. Somewhat anticlimactic end, though.

    Listing my favorites here:

    Movies:

    1.  Samuari X (All of them)

    2.  Cowboy Bebop The Movie

    3.  Blood

(Cant think of any other ones at the moment)

I think the worse anime movie of all time, though the idea is very interesting its was made by the horniests Japanese nerds ever, Wicked City.  If you havent seen it, DONT, if you have, then you feel my pain.

    Series:

    1.  Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Kenshin, Hellsing, Inu Yasha, Outlaw Star, Big O, Blue Sub No6, Eva, Wolf Rain, Love Hina, Berserk, Ghost in the Shell, Yu-Yu, and although it is extremly lethargic and can put you to sleep, I earnestly enjoy Witch Hunter Robin.  The concept is absolutly excelent.  There are others I just cant think of them now.  (Obviously DBZ/GT because although it takes 35 episodes to hear 1 speach, it is absolutly epic).

This is the beginning of my past. This is the end of my journey.

Also, have any of you ever seen the series 'X'.  I think it is incredible.

Hehe, there's just too many good animes the mention!  But Ranma 1/2 is definatly up there on my list.  problem is, only way to watch Ranma these days is to either buy the insanely expensive 400$ box set at your local store, or 100$ on ebay (bootleg, hehe) ... or find them on Kazaa... but between you, me and whoever is reading this, I was only able to get up to Season 5 and a few episodes of Season 6 & 7 :(   They are soooo hard to find.  And even finding the entire bootleg series for 100$ on Ebay is hard too.

Urusei Yatsura is so funny too, by the same creator of Ranma!

    Where are the

    NARUTO

fans???  It's the most downloaded anime on Animesuki.com and it's the replacement of Dragon Ball Z in japan, and is the most popular anime in Japan too at the moment!

I haven't read anyone mention that they liked it.

Okay yeah, a lot of people hate DBZ.  But let me tell you right now, Naruto rocks!  If you hated the long 5-10 episode battles, it's not like that in Naruto!  You will have at most 3 episodes for 1 battle.  First season is smooth, good story, it introduces a few characters.  2nd season is the exams!  Yeah this is long, some people hated it cause all they do are Ninja training, but the trainings, new characters and new powerfuls that are unveiled are a must see!  You can't miss out on the Ninja Exams or else you won't know where all the character's powers and backgrounds come from when you watch the later seasons.

By watching the first 3 seasons, you are rewarded with the 4th and BEST season of Naruto!!!  The story picks up, so much happens, you end up loving characters that you hated in the first 3 seasons, and same goes for hating people you originally liked in the first 3.  Great writing, amazing animation, and the battles are intense!  Again, no 5-10 episodes for 1 battle!  Instead you will have 10 episodes of fighting in a row, but every 2 episodes it's a new character that fights with a new battle.

Watch'em.  It's free, it's legal, animesuki.com, no I'm not an animesuki promoter, but I do want more people to give Naruto a try.  I've converted all my anime friends into watching Naruto!  Hey some even hated DBZ with a passion but ended up becoming a Naruto freak like myself.

Go to Animesuki.com for the legit stuff. But that doesn't mean you can search for anything. Lots of anime's are licensed, so don't be suprised if you can't download them off the site.

I just rented the anime Metropolis and I have to say... WOW. That movie blew me away from my expectations. The art and animation itself is already worth the money. It is SO colourful and artistic. Some scenes look like paintings that would be in an art gallery. But then the storyline is so complex and epic, it almost goes beyond a movie.

It does deal with the whole philosophy of humans existing with robots kind of like i Robot and such, but this is MUCH more deeper than that. And on top of it Metropolis was originally made in the 1930's (not my version though, this one is 2002 made) so lots of movies copied off of metropolis.

Go see it if you like animes!

Favorite show of all itme. that would have to be gundam 08th MS team (yes i know some people hate gundam as a rule). But any anime where they can use a william shakespear plot with giatn robots has my vote.  Beyond that Rurouni kenshin, and Yu Yu hakusho up until after dark tournament. Then outlaw star.

Big O also has a soft spot, Blue submarine number 6 was pretty good( did i get the title right)??

the new gundam seed is pretty tite.

ORIGINAL dragonball is pretty funny( but i dont care for art or story).

Ya thats another one I wanted to see, mainly for the background art which I hear is astounding.

The best anime I have ever seen was grave of the fireflies. It was a historical drama which brought tears to my eyes (I've cried a total of 3 times in a movie, ever, this was one of them). I have to give it to the one who got my emotions.

I also like ghost in the shell and akira (the more I watch, the more I like).

As far as series are concerned, I have to give it to the only one which I really liked. This one is cowboy bebop, enough coolness and hardcoreness without getting out of hand queer like trigun did.
