What future MMORPGs are you considering playing?

CatManCatMan Member UncommonPosts: 5

While I likely won't play any new MMORPGs in the near future, I am keeping my eye on Tabula Rasa and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.  Those are the only two announced MMOs that interest me in the slightest.

The first one is going to be Face of Mankind. If I don't like that one, the next one is DnL. I hope I can stick to one and play it for a long time.

Both Dark and Light and Tabula Rasa have serious flaws. Tabula Rasa is being made by the uber sell-out Richard Garriot. Dark and Light isn't bad, but it can't be better than this list.

Atriarch- Still active and nowhere near vaporware, the perfect mmorpg

Vanguard- The true successor to eq (forget the vile filth out there with the same name)

I'll play any of them that are stable and somewhat interesting upon release.

How do you define stable and interesting? Because in my view, no game in recent memory has been either or even close to it.

i'd like to try tabula rasa also, vanguard doesn't look too bad but i don't follow games real well 'til they have an end in sight (est. release date).

Tabula Rasa does not look cool. It looks like it will be too easy and more about playing the game than being in a persistent world (no offense, that's fun too). It's also being made by garriot, who is a sell out and one huge arrsehole.

I'm looking (midly) forward to Tabula Rasa and D&D Online. Of course i keep an eye on many others, but recently i am not following any games' development really near, i will wait and see what happens.

You already insulted Garriot twice in the time of 8 posts, Darkbackward, maybe you could explain why you consider one of our forefathers and extemely respected game developer a "arsehole"?

I consider him one of the best, all the Ultima series is top notch, not to speak of Ultima online that , before his leaving, was really something.

If you speak about his leaving, Origin was bought by EA and he left in disgust for that and what EA was doing with his game. He even kept the "Funeral of UO" party in his house to express this and i have to admit nowaday UO has nothing to do with old days one. UO was the first real commercial Mmorpg ever done (if we discard Meridian 59, that wasn't a commercial success) and he opened the roads to all others. UO had, first, all problems linked to MMorpgs. The were pioneers and explorers going in an unknown world.

I respect him and his colleague for that as not everyone can say to have done the same.

    Have a nice day

Lets not give credit to meridian 59 or the hundreds of muds before him, Oh no. HE WAS THE INNOVATOR!

Give credit to where its due, garriot did some new things, but nothing to call home about that hadn't been done before, the commercial success should not be claimed as pioneering, merely as success, which is what it was.

I truly like ultima and his other series, and I even liked him. But when a man leaves his company because it changed hands and discards his series at a whim, that makes me angry.

But you know what, that can even be forgiven. But what can't be forgiven is his selfishness with mythic. He wanted total control of camelot, and they said no, he would have to cooperate with others, and he pushed them aside like they were trash.

And DAOC was a whole lot better than UO. When he makes commitments to companies he should keep them, not back down because he is a control freak.

He has done it twice, so why not a third time? If something even begins to break he'll jump ship and set sail somewhere else with the tag "great game developer" and abuse his powers else where.

Tabula Rasa is also a game targeted for the faint of heart. Hey, can't bulid up your character? Well, we'll fix that. Hey, having troubles dieing? Well, we'll fix that.

Clean Slate seems like nothing more than an exercise in accomadating to an ignorant camp of the madden retard.

Betatested some of the future games, and it is a bleak future indeed...

Setting my hopes to Auto Assault now. At least they have the courage to do something different. Different means creative, creative means talent.

    Copy means... Bleak future...

Tabula Rasa, my hopes are high.

Vanguard:  With specific servers rule(non-raiding server, althought I just want a server where raiding dont give solo and group uberness, non-raiding server would meet those requirements), who know, maybe I will stick with them, all depend on the specific servers(non-raiding server would need the loot they spefically design for raid in some high end grouping challenge or it would lack a player base, same rewards on every servers).  To bad they stick to a ''solo is casual'' dead end thinking.

D&D: I dont believe in them anymore, the more I read, the more I think they are a bunch of jack a$$.  Still, it have D&D and I have to try it, to bad it will suck so bad almost inevitably, enforcers scums(group and raiding)!

Maybe I will try Guild War, but I dont like PvP and raiding, so it will only be to kill time with a group of devs who have been pretty honest about it at least, I will never stick there a long time.   DnL is out of the question for me, they are happy enforcers and they are grooving about it, well, groove all you want, I wont be there to entertain you. image  MEO is a no thanks for now, but we never know, if they get awesome reviews and folks say it is wonderland, I may give them a serious try. image

I'm not getting my hopes up over Atriarch. I mean, if it goes gold that's great, I can't wait. But it seems like it's trying to do too much, and relying on too many people playing, unless they'll have npc controlled empires and adventurers and whatnot.

Haven't looked much into Vanguard, but DnL and Tabula Rasa (TR?) never looked that spectacular to me. Guild Wars I am looking forward to.

Guild Wars for mere first person shooter entertainment. Its free and its easy on the go pvp:p

    Other than that?

Dark and light. You have to respect the ambition that went into that game:)

I'm changing my mind on vanguard. The server specific rule set should be tossed out. We can rp and tk on our own, we don't need any help from a server.

Vanguard is also considering "premium" servers. This is wretched stank that was created by everquest, IT WILL NOT BE PURSUED.

Will try Mourning and Face of Mankind first, and move onto to Dark and Light if both of those fail to capture my intrest. If all three fail, i'll put my hopes on Vanguard.

Without a doubt, Dark and Light ::::20::
