I am really enjpying the game so far my self, but the lack of players is very sad. While I have seen players in the starter city I am in its almost a ghost town. I have met one very nice and helpfull player to talk to which is making it more enjoyable though.

As for the comments I keep hearing about graphics, I don't get it. The game looks great to me. Its very atmospheric and I actually find my self just standing and staring at the enviroment some times, which I'm sure will get me killed sooner or later. I mean the graphics to me are as good as any MMO I have played if not better. The capital city for my race is done as well or better than any I have seen.  I am going to take some screenies soon and I will post them MMORPG.com when I get them done. Also whoever said this looks like Oblivion, hah. Oblivion graphics have nothing on Darkfall in my opinion.

I think the game has gorgeous graphics and a well put together original world.

Its just that everyone turns down the setting for PKing...obviously.

The graphics are great and AV definitely has a distinct style.  No game I have ever played can match the atmosphere and game world.

Till darkfall has good looking world one shouldn't worry about the look of the characters (And they are not that bad not great but not bad) if playing the game, your 90% of the times in first person view anyways.

     Fixed that for you.

The world looks great. The characters, the spells, and most of all the animations are what look like crap. Especially if you can turn environment shadows on, but those are an extremely heavy load.

Actually that just about changes my mind about the game to NOT want to play the game.

This confirms what this guy is saying:

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/262174/One-of-the-most-levelbased-MMOs-out-there-Just-a-warning.html

With high skill (level) and good gear older players will become a

    "One man army"

Making it pretty much impossible for new players to compete.

Damn I actually thought this game understood that if you allow level and gear to allow one person to be game god mode:

It just ruins the game for new players because they can't compete or even contribute.

I am still holding some hope that this isn't common place that one guy can run into a town of enemies, gank some poeple, and get out alive.

If there were three people in there that were all new players yeah I could understand.  But I saw at least 8 different players.

For you guys playing the game, where those others players geared well enough to believe they were higher in skill (level)?

  • TheHatterTheHatter Member Posts: 2,547

Stux, if you full screen it you can see none of his skills were maxed out at 100.

Also, it's not a newbie city. I don't know what kind of city that is, because I'm a newbie, but if you attack someone in a newbie city you get shot down by the towers instantly. I think that's a player made city.

    Dont worry.

One player running into a crowd, (wich is not used to group combat) will win the first minutes. Because the others will just hit eachothers.

And this "!One Man Army" shows a very skilled player. If he was given a new character i guess he would kill almost as many. When my clan is doing PvP training, some of our bestplayers usually train naked, and still kill of less skilled characters. Even if they use heavy armour and best weapons.

So player skill is what matters : )

Well that makes me feel a little better.

I do like the look of the game and combat LOOKS fun but I would hate to get my ass kicked in the first six months of the game.

I am moving in a week or so and once I get settled back in I am going to pick something up.  This looks like the best things out there for my taste atm.  I have been watching the forums for this game since release because I was worried with it being a small company an all.  But they seems to be getting things together and trying to improve the game.

I mean when the game first came out the website was to much of a debacle for me to trust giving them my cc.

I really wish I could get a box game but I don't think that is going to happen, maybe at all, in the US.

For now I will keep reading hehe.

The first weeks you will get ganked, you are after all new to the game. It would not matter if you loaned the most max out skilled character on the server.

If you cant play better then your enemy......you loose : (

You will be good at what you do, some of my clanies practice combat for hours everyday, just because that is what they want to become good at : )

Yes it's a player made city (Sunthrone) in Wolflands, NW portion of the map.

This guy seems to be very skilled in magic and melee at least.

Is this something you need to do to compete that that level?

Also, what is that magic jump that allows him to jump onto towers?   I didn't see anyone else doing it to keep attacking him and don't understand why these guys keep letting him get away to heal himself when he jumps like that.  Around 2:12 on part 2 is an example of it.

He is prepared using regents for the different spells.  The others are not prepared or don't have those spells.  One spells is launch, another telekinesis, and can't remember the name of the other one that launches him at an angle.

    Few more questions:

Is there collision detection?  It looks like it.

    Are there knock backs?

    Are there snares?

I don't know how he survived around 4:10 of part 2.

It looks like there is a macro to change from his melee setup to his magic.  He runs away slaps on some HoTs changes back to him melee setup and attacks.  Rinse repeat with blasting some AoE and other magics in between.

It also looks like he is bouncing between magic and melee to keep his mana and stamina where he needs them when is doing one or the other.

Yes he is using a lot of conversion spells.  Mana to stamina & stamina to health are the main ones besides his normal heals.

oh wait... thats Morrowind from from 2002...  graphics look almost the same lolz

Graphics arent the top reason people play a good game its been proven. And this game to me is one of if not the best out there right now in mmo's to be playing if not id prolly not play mmo's anymore because of the staleness of all other games.

I don't understand why people complain about huge gap between new players and veterans, after all in that video Valroth was killed by a local drunk

On serious note I hate grind and the gap which it creates between players. The common mistake which people make is associating grind with character progression.

However apart of obvious edge given by well developed character and good equipment I can say that player skill played a huge part in this fight: a lot of Valroth enemies were doing things bluntly wrong and he did marvelous job sepereting them from eachother, managaing HSM and utilizing all his spells and abilities.

Df is grindy. You should look at the skills exactly the same as you look the lvls in other games.Skill is ok and all,

but when your opponent can 5 shot you with an aoe-which is hard to miss obviously- or with a polearm which has a long reach skill doesnt rly matter. You will block a few times ,try running, stalling the opponent a bit, but its certain that you ll die.

Dfs skill based system is just a bit more flexible(than games with lvls). If you have similar skills and somewhat lower you might win, and thats not bad at all i suppose, considering the rest mmos out there.

If you start now, you need to know this, either you ll focus on one thing only, to be able to have something maxed out as soon as possible, making you a tad useful in group pvp, or you ll do whatever you feel like and you wont be any useful.Fact is you'll be steamrolled either way.You have to understand that. You need time, im estimating 3 months at least(ill let you know if im right) to be able to reach others.

Everything in df is a skill and needs some sort of grind. You'll get used to watching movies while farming etc.

Weapon skills, magic skills, archery, str stam dex etc, swimming, running, jumping, and thats just the tip of the iceberg.

People will say silly things to you, they will throw you the hardcore cookie and all, but it remains a fact.Im lvling 1h atm cause i like playing with a shield, and it was something like 5-6 mobs to get 0.10 pts.Been trying to reach 50(was like 47 when i noticed this-no mastery) which i did some hrs ago.

Eventually you'll have to decide if the epicness you get sometimes is worth it.For me it does atm, but im playing like 8 days(resub-

my box month was spent in exploring and slacking in general.)

My clanmates and myself on a raft, messing around for 1hr travelling to help some allies defend.Getting picked up from a boat with 30-35 people on it in order to engage altogether.Thats epic, the conquest feeling is there, but its covered in shit.

We got rolled in 7mins aprox.Still was fun, and still i was useless in there, just casting my 75lvl mana missile, still i was one of the last ones to die on the beach, swinging my sword exactly 2 times before falling.

I've had my share of epicness already from other games, but df still touches me.It needs work for sure, lets hope it survives.

Keep your distance or ill send you back to hell spirit.
