Worst Buy of the Year (MMO) !?

Is almost 2010 !! I believe everyone had good or worse time through out 2009. Since this is MMORPG talkative place, I might as well start a topic about "Worst Buy of the Year in MMO" for you to share how wrongly to invest your money in one of the MMO here.

Well my Worst buy of the Year in MMO is:

Cryptic Champion Online Lifetime Subscription + Closed beta for Star Trek Online

To share my profile, I BUY A LOT of games not even MMO in my entire life every year, and including this year as well however I had an awful year with MMO. I almost bought anything that wasn't too enjoyable, especially Champion Online I thought it would be epic, however it became epic fail and did not attract me to continue. I was first bought the lifetime sub because I saw how awesome it included STO closed beta however, well NDA hasn't lifed yet but all I can say is ... Meerrr...

Anyway, yup that pretty much sums up my Worst Buy of the Year, and I do have faith on next year coz KOTOR online and Global Agenda will be coming out.

Feel free to share your thoughts, Everyone has their rights and opinions, so please do not flame.

Darkfall because it has no free trial and sucks.

Definitely Aion. I thought it was amazing in beta, but then once retail released and I got into the 20s I found it to be a mindless grind. Needless to stay it only took 3 days before I stopped playing.

On the other side though, if the game ever some how drastically changes for the better, I can always sub again.

Give and take I guess, so not a totally worthless buy (yet).

Aion definitely, pretty package containing idiotic pve game trying to look like a cool pvp game, truly horrific experience.

Champions online for me was fun experience, not very long but fun.

Still playing WAR as it's absolutely the only proper pvp/rvr game without full loot.

It was either my Darkfall online purchase, or buying the age of Conan CE box. Both made me wanna vomit pretty quickly.

Champions Online for me. It was fun for a couple weeks and then got amazingly boring and repetitive.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

I would say my personal worst of the year is WAR because the devs had a solid hit RvR game behind them and everyone agreed the kings of RvR games couldn't fuck it up, yet they did.  Big time.  WAR coming out after the disaster AoC was WAR was the great hope for a decent pvp game at the time.

    Aion.  Definitely a huge disappointment.

Darkfall was even more disappointing for my first few hours.  Now, it's downright amazing, save for some minor annoyances.

WAR was released in 2008, but we feel your pain.

I did not buy a new MMO this year, I had my fingers burnt last year and did not need to burn them again just to be sure I said "Ouch". :D

Yeah I was thinking it may have been as a wrote what I did, though even then I consider WAR a bigger flop than any game released this year.

I thought WAR is good now, it still sucks very bad at RvR??  I heard a lot of good comments now about them being the best PvP and RvR for now!

Worst buy this year? Honestly? Fallen Earth.

Biggest disappointment for me. Even more so than Darkfall (and I've become an infamous DF hater). I was with them since closed alpha and had to watch the game stay the muddled not-sure-if-it-wants-to-be-sandbox-or-themepark game it is with broken PvP and a tough game to get a grasp on for the themepark players due to so much of everything being player made. I want to buy the game so much, but I can't get over the disappointment. </3

I tried CO for 19bucks off of steam, and feel let down.  The world feels flat, the story is like Scooby Doo meets the Justice League 70's cartoon.  Though some people like the campy feel of it, I got put off it.

Graphically, the character models and choices were OK, but the background, environment, and enemies all seem almost cardboard cut-out, and flat looking.  The game's background environments feel to be flat and lackluster as well.

I almost bought it on a whim, I'm really glad I got to try the trial out though. It's a great game that's not really fully fleshed out. Too many bugs and glitches but it's a decent start. Sadly the current state it's in now is equivalent to that of an alpha or a beta.

I think it intentionally had that 70s feel, as if they were trying to appeal more to the comic book collector than the cartoon enthusiast, if you get that comparison. ;)

Oh no, not even close. In alpha, I was constantly getting disconnected before I could even get to the combat section of the tutorial. It took me 5 tries to finally finish the tutorial, all on different days.

...and don't even get me started on hit detection...

    2009 was fun of disapointments

    Darkfall

    CO

to list the 2 worst i think i even bought some more but can't remember all becomes a blurr after them

Fallen Earth i did enjoy to be fair just think it needs work here and there, crash bugs and so on.

No game to my taste was released this year so any of them would be a worst buy for me. But they will be the best buy for some other players with different taste.

Some said WAR and while it was released last year it might still be some truth to that, Mythic was butchered this year and nothing good can come out of that for us MMO players or particularly for the WAR and DAoC players.

Worst buy is a very personal thing anyways, it would be easier to guess what game that will go down 2010 and even that is hard.

Only made one purchase in 2009 and that was DFO, which has turned out to be the best thing I've played since SWG pre-cu. Although I did resub to WW2online for a while prior to that and I guess that's a purchase, only to realize why I left it.

So I guess WW2online gets the crown, but that's not a 2009 game. I got burnt badly in 2008 with AoC and have been extremely cautious to the point I refuse to purchase at launch now.

    Key word: alpha.

For me, it was Darkfall. AV was bleeding lies.

    Champions Online, Hands down.

Not only was it a huge disapointment in terms of the game itself, but it set a new standard for lack of anything but ways to make money and please the loudest most inexperienced players.. that frankly makes me fear for the future of MMO's

Oh I picked up on that, why I said "... some people like the campy feel of it... "  Well I gave it an honest go, it just couldn't hook me.

Aion. Very shallow pve, horrible community.

My worse for this year would be Aion. Was so hyped during beta and jumped right on it during release. After a couple months it just felt to linear and just no real point in getting to 50. I wound up unsubbing not to long after which was sad as I had such high hopes in its PvP.
