I think I only purchased 2 MMORPGS this year - Darkfall and Fallen Earth.
Darkfall and Fallen Earth captured my attention for a few weeks and then sharply fell away. Both of them suffered the same problem - lack of fun. Darkfall was basically grinding non-stop until you are lucky enough to find a seige you're in. Fallen Earth was non stop questing (too much travel) and long crafting downtimes.
I'm not really sure - probably Fallen Earth.
I've tried to stop my impulse game buying habits now and have strarted to wait for reviews first.
Well, I did not actually buy any new games this year, but of all the ones I have bought or played so far is World of Warcraft. I keep wondering why I keep buying the expansions when they never actually add a storyline. I am hoping to finally get copies of Aion and Champions Online(I played both free) plus the new expansion for Lord of the Rings Online. Very much looking forward to Star Trek Online though. Big Trek fan. APB might be fun too.
Shalldoom, you must be one of those WoW fans that cannot entertain anything different that actually has a storyline(one thing I constantly criticize WoW for lacking). Your subspecies, Homo Sapiens Sapiens Warcrackus Addicticus, is quite intriguing.
This year? WAR. It captured me for 2 weeks or maybe less, but it soon became tedious and boring.
MMos really need to evolve and add something new... this whole "diablo" style loot and quest system is getting on my nerves. Thats why im holding my fingers for Mortal, Earthrise and Secret World.
After seeing first hand ,there is no question to the answer...Alganon,there is no way i would play that for free let alone pay for it.The game looks to be exactly the same as Horizons was, this guy put little effort into creating a good game.
I thought all the talk was a little far fetched being the guy did make Horizons several years ago,i figured he has some knowledge and could make a much better game this time around...NOPE same ol junk.
Judging by the poor quality of the game ,i would say this guy got some free money[investors],i cannot believe he would put his face on this product, unless he has little to lose.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I preordered Mortal Online and already I think that game is gonna blow balls. I've played their "BETA" and it was horrible. I waited and came back 2 months later. It was STILL horrible. I waited two more months and it was STILL HORRIBLE. Now they are a month or so from release and its still ass. I will never preorder to get into a beta again.
Well considering I didn't really buy any mmorpg games this year. I guess the worse buy would be none. I did buy 1 game that really let me down this year though Empire total war. I didn't enjoy it even half as much as Medieval 2 sadly.
The mmorpg that let me down the MOST this year though was Aion. I expected something fun, fresh and new, I got the same old thing with a new coat of shine.
Best buy of the year for me was my virago 250 motorcycle XD
Definitely Aion. I thought it was amazing in beta, but then once retail released and I got into the 20s I found it to be a mindless grind. Needless to stay it only took 3 days before I stopped playing. On the other side though, if the game ever some how drastically changes for the better, I can always sub again. Give and take I guess, so not a totally worthless buy (yet).
same here though it took two months to finally give up on mine my cousin kept me in the game til he became another fanboi wanker so i left after that
I lucked out and didn't buy any MMOs for myself this year. I would have to say the most disappointing was CO for me. Turned out to be way too shallow and not what they advertised. Played through CB and OB, and watched my good buddy get gimped in launch day.
My best non-buy MMO was FE (it was a gift for my birthday) and it kept me entertained for 2 months playing ultimately nonstop across 2 very different characters. I would still be playing now if I didn't stop to go through borderlands with some of my friends. Fun game that borderlands.
Another disappointing mention would be Darkfall, as much as I wanted it to succeed, launch was the biggest disaster I've ever witnessed. Glad to hear some of this community is enjoying it, but I have little faith in the development team, and the short hands on I had at my friends house left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm guessing things have gotten better, but I won't be buying it any time soon.
1) Fallen Earth: This is the most boring and bland mmorpg I have ever personally seen. They tried to do something diffrent but sadly fell flat on their faces.
2) Aion: Game is just bascally lineage 3 with a wee bit less of a grind, and just as boring.
None eventhough I no longer play aion (Because I thought I could get to cap without pvping much but it's not possible unless you want to grind without doing quests in pvp zones) the free month was enjoyable enough for it's price.

Would people be addicted to WoW if it wasnt fun ad a good game?
I made a thread on this topic before.
If a game is Addictive, does that mean it's a Bad game?
I came up with that thread because of comments like yours from WoW haters like you. Remember somebody flaming WoW addiction on the Warhammeralliance off topic.
Again its always the WoW hater, that wana try to take the Carrot on the Stick argument, and try to go some place with it as an excuse to saying that WoW is bad.

Anyone ever think of WoW as a cigarett? Never thought of that did ya..

Never had those before, but there has to be some reason people turn to smoking when they feel down. Could it be because it makes them feel good?
Market is full of bad games, so I shouldn't really care. I'll mention Aion as worst buy, since I played the beta and first month. It tried to pull a mindless grindfest as P2P game. It also suffers a lot from the pay-by-the-hour model from Korea, which adds lots of time and money sinks just for the sake of it. There is no reason to play Aion instead of L2 other than the shiny graphics.
Another title to mention is Mabinogi. Because of licensing contracts, the access is limited by region. Looks like now, after years, nexon will open an European server. This limit goes straight against the internet freedom of access, and don't like how corps think they can get away with it.
I did not buy a mmo this year because I am still feeling the sting of the 2008 disappointment. It is like I have this bad cold and can't find the cure.
Champions online: worst decision ever... I love the superhero genre and gave this game a eager try and found it so dissapointing, I thought it had potential but in the end it's already a 'dying' game.
Aion: I should have known... No I knew what Aion was like, despite that I tried to get into the game only to drop it and never look back at it after a few weeks.

Well, Aion was, i was very excited for the first 10 or so levels, then i got into the twenties and it got really boring.
Holy $hit!!!
I bet everyone who went to Steam and looked at the price of Champion Online discount (only $10.19 US), definitely wanted to chop their #$%#$ off !!!!
Despite only released within half a year, wow what a fxxking ripped off !!!
Cryptic you have my word, You will FAIL BADLY with your upcoming new IP title !!!!!
There goes my full price CO, Lifesub + closed beta money !!!! ...... in the dumpster.
=(
Thank you MMO genre few companies, you made us losing faith and trust on MMO this year!!
I cry for the people who bought Aion, including myself.
All of that money could've gone into paying for my college, damn.
Made a desperate dive for new games this year...
Lucky i didnt buy it. But mine would have been Crimecraft ROFL thank god i checked it out in beta.
Since i didnt buy CC i would have to put my money on Aion. Loved in beta, Retail is shite.
Look for Allods online (necron like race FTW).
