There are exceptions to the above. Every once in a while, there is a good group in the BG and we have fun with it and sometimes trade chat falls apart with the "anal" jokes and linking....
But when you have that many players, you are bound to run into the good and the bad...and the ugly.
no, seriously, FFXI is and probably the best MMO Community there ever is, you are meant to interact with other users to progress, if you are some A$$holes or some ass twat prick, you probably will never find a group, no group = as good as dead in FFXI
even the players that spoke different languages help each other out like it;s their own real friends
worst would have to be WoW, no doubt, since WOTLK, i have felt that WoW is no longer the Vanilla days as we know, where all the players are still mature / willing to help
Best: Tie - CoX and LotRO. Both communities were helpful and always willing to lend a hand. I really enjoyed my time in both games due in large part to the community.
Worst: WoW. If the immature banter, the "I pwn'd u", the Chuck Norris jokes in the chat channels where not enough. You had groups were people were SCREAMING at each other in an instance....over a game. AND don't get me started with those want/need rollers. You should never feel stress when playing a game. The stress was relieved once I hit that "Cancel my subscription" button.
This pretty much sums up my own view on the matter. ^.^
The communities in LotRO and CoX are really amazing compared to most other games.
Best community has to go to Alganon and Eve online. Both player bases are quite passionate about their games, and also tend to be helpful to new players(in Eve other wise known as fresh meat... ^^)
Worst community would have to be either Cabal or 2 Moons. Both are filled with so many immature types that its amazing they don't tear the space time continuum... ^^
Runner up for worst would be *some* of the WoW realms.
Best: Old Ultima Online before Trammel you really had a sense of someones character by their actions. People helped each other and ICQ was filled up with friends. Everyone kinda knew each other, almost by name. After Trammel it degraded into the spoiled kid with puppy me me me attitude.
Worst: World of Warcraft. Trade channel and Barrens chat.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
oh 1 more thing, i think only in WOW you will see chat like these before Maintenance ANALLLLLLLLLLLLL [ enter anything you like here ] those Anal spams are just ridiculous
Best: LotRO. Only one "not so great" grouping experience. All others were terrific, and the chat channels are generally pretty d-bag free and very helpful.
Worst: DDO at launch. If it wasn't the PnP guys griping in the forums because a certain spell worked differently than in the Players Manual, it was the fools who rushed down the hallways setting off every trap in the dungeon and triggering instance barks. Also, the peeps that kept running Waterworks over and over again, telling us everything that's gonna happen and spoiling it for the rest of us in the party.
Best Community: Tie between EVE online and COH/COV. People were very giving and helpful in COV/COH. I stil play EVE and Ive mostly encounterd good players more than bad.
Worst community: Tie between WOW and AOC. I stil play AOC but some of the people in global act like teens in puberty and have had to turn off global except when looking for raids.
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH salutes ubisoft for Raving Rabbids go home game!)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
Best: LotRO, without any doubt. Worst: WoW, but there is lots of good community material as well; it's just that there are too many individuals intent of spoiling other people's enjoyment of the game.
For me the best community was the LotR Online one. Quite polite and helpfull both in game and on the forums. I only had 1 person on my ignore list.
The worst one was sadly the after WotLK community on the server i played in WoW, a RP PvP realm if i may add. I say "sadly" because i was on that realm since it's beginning. We had a great community both in game (Alliance) and on the realm forum with very fiew exceptions of drama and immature behaviour. At some point in mid TBC things started going down the drain and in WotLK they ended deep in the sewers.
Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR Played: UO - EQ1 - AO - DAoC - NC - CoH/CoV - SWG - WoW - EVE - AA - LotRO - DFO - STO - FE - MO - RIFT Playing: Skyrim Following: The Repopulation I want a Virtual World, not just a Game. ITS TOO HARD! - Matt Firor (ZeniMax)
Best - So far, it's WoW, a lot of nice people on that game. ^^
Worst - Runescape's community after they began to limit PKing and trading.
Playing - Champions Online Unsure Of - Darkfall, Star Trek Online Waiting For - Star Wars: The Old Republic, All Points Bulletin Played - Age Of Conan, Everquest II, Mabinogi, Tabula Rasa, Star Wars Galaxies, World Of Warcraft
Best: AC1, back during the early 2000's days. Even on the FFA PvP server, Darktide had some of the best communities around. Be it PvE or PvP, people helped each other, fought against each other, protected towns, fought for their monarchy, fought for hunting spots against enemies so their friends/guildies could level. A true MMO community.
Worst: All PvE-based MMO's since then, including EQ1, have had the worst communities around. There's nothing worse than elitist raiders talking you down just because they may have killed a few more raid mobs than you do. Nothing worse than getting ks'ed because someone wants a piece of loot on a mob that you rightfully were camping for. Nothing worse than getting trained and not able to do anything about it. Nothing worse than e-tough guys laughing at your gear because apparently it took skill to get what they have being in a large guild.

Best and worst are both World of Warcraft.
Worst is WoW in battlegrounds
Best is WoW elsewhere.
There are exceptions to the above. Every once in a while, there is a good group in the BG and we have fun with it and sometimes trade chat falls apart with the "anal" jokes and linking....

Best : Neverwinter Nights
worst : WoW

Best - LotRO
Worst - Darkfall
Best: EVE
Worst: Maplestory
Best: SWG, never experienced people really working together and socializing that much.
Worst: GW, all porn talk and 15 year old schoolyear talk. Terrible.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
This pretty much sums up my own view on the matter. ^.^
The communities in LotRO and CoX are really amazing compared to most other games.
I read several posts, where some people stated DAoC´s community as the best, others mentioned WAR´s community as the worst because noone talked.
This is interesting, because both games had a similar chat-system (no global/region chat).

Best: Warhammer 1 year ago - Lots of gamers having fun with each other
Worst: Warhammer now - Very few players left, and most of them being shitty to each other.
Next Best: Every mmo I ever played
Next Worse: Every mmo I ever played
The premise that one mmo community is more mature/better/whatever than another mmo community is laughable. We're all the same people.
Anal Rupture.
You're welcome.
WoW. Answer to both.
