I may be the oddball of the bunch but i preferred Voyager to any of the other versions. Janeway had more balls than any of the other captains combined.
It's got to be a good MMO first. Being a fan of the series / world will only take you so far - if the game is junk then it doesn't really matter.
What matters to me more is that the writer is showing serious bias towards this game. Before there is even an official review, he starts advising this game to players. Apparently a review to let players make up their minds for their own isnt necessary anymore. Just write an article about the TV series and use those as argument if players will like a game! So somewhere along the line it was already established that STO is a good MMO.
This is far from objective journalism. Its as if you read someones personal blog.
I guess reading comprehension is no longer taught in schools, along with critical thinking.
The whole article is based on that STO is a good MMO. If it wasnt, asking if you like a certain ST series, wouldnt be enough to determine if you might like STO. All those Indie companies barely get coverage. While those large companies already place loads of ads and feed the MMO review sites with heaps of information. But this isnt enough. The writers have to start posting articles like these one too on top of their reviews of those games. To anyone who tries to stay objective, this really looks as if they mainly bias to the large MMO companies.
Lot of players always wonder why they didnt hear about this MMO or that MMO from an Indie developer. Its not just the lack of advertising. Its also because a website like this one, feeds mainly articles about the main productions. And not only whats been fed to them by their developers, but also articles like this one which are their own initiative.

Expecting objective journalism from an advertising supported gaming site is rather naive.
No, expecting objective journalism from an opinion piece is retarded.
You can take off the tinfoil hat please.
This is not just an opinion piece. The writer is actually advising players to check the game out. The reason why I say this is far from objective journalism, is because there hasnt been a review yet. The review where players are supposed to decide for themselves and not be told to check something out because of something vague as liking a certain TV series. This comes close to pitching a game.

This is an opinion piece whether you believe it to be or not. I think most folks here have come to terms with that.
That said, I'm getting that you believe there should be some kind of order for which how articles are written for a game? As in there can't be an opinion piece written for a game, positive or negative, before and objective review is done?
Either way I think it'd be unfair and in fact impossible to write an objective review for a game that hasn't officially launched. Let the company declare "Ok, here's what we are selling for money now" (and that factually being the case; i.e., the game has launched) and then an objective review can be written.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

I think what most player reviews have said is that soon after the honeymoon period, referred to as the tutorial, the doldrums of this game rear their head.
Personally I'm considered "Hardcore" according to this article. As sense I've high hopes for this but at the same time I'm quite critical. Hence I will not pay a single cent toward this game until I can get my hands on it. Unfortunetly I haven't gotten into a single "Open Beta" since keys disapear faster than I can believe.

I like all the Star Trek shows....some more than others...but liked them all. I've also liked most of the movies. That being said I'm enjoying the game. Yes I would change a few things but I know why they did what they did and it works in its own way.
One thing I'd change is the space combat. I liked in the shows when they would take out the engines, or aim for weapons or shield emitters. Then they would either talk to the captain of the other shop, or beam him over, or beam over. I also haven't seen anything about tractor beams, do these ships have them?
I'd also change some of the ground combat. I don't know how well it would have worked as a FPS, maybe it wouldn't have worked well. I would have liked to see a cover system though.
Third I would have voiced all the NPC's. Star Wars Old Republic is doing it and I think its about time all AAA titles should do it.
They way they did the combat is ok, it works well but it doesn't seem 100% Star Trek but maybe the things I mentioned wouldn't have worked.

I have yet to see a tv or movie star trek battle with tank, dps, and healing ships. I love star trek. I really don't expect to play this game.

Absolutely love the game. It needs more polish but it's definitely one of the best to come out in a while.
Currently playing: World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online, Runes of Magic...
Played: If it was released I played it...
the game is just like any other mmo out there
nothing that makes it stand out

I'm still undecided. Space combat is good. Not liking the ground combat much. Your forced to do both.
