If the beta had started there would be far more than 2 people breaking the NDA saying they got in, and there would especially be images of the char creation posted or even a video on YouTube. FFXIII is already launched in japan, there is no reason at all for them to wait until the NA launch . Furthermore SE has never cared about the NA gamers compared to the japanese. They already said there ahead of schedual, so delaying beta for a game to release would be more costly than benificial. "Square enix surely say" lol if you knew anything about SE you would know they dont tell us jack squat. What it took them almost 5 years to give us the name of the mmo. I have been playing there games since FF1 was released on the NES. I have followed square for many years.

If true it would probably so not everyone downloads the client at the same time to reduce load on the download server

That and SE already said that beta was going to go in waves, not many to start off with ending with alot. If you ask me being able to make a character puts it into beta because thats part of the game, and that needs to be tested. When alot of people are trying to make a character do you want it to crash the CC?
EDIT: Also we need to take into account that all the invites were not just for NA. Most of the few that they sent probably went to the japanese.

The Japanese got their campaign code with FFXIII. The code isn't just for an in game item when it hits release, it's also for the PS3 beta sign up for the Japanese. For the Japanese beta sign up, they can select the PS3 and enter their code. And as you know, for the rest of us, it's PC only. And as you also know, they've explicitly stated one sign up per person.

Actually, there can be logging servers, world servers, even instance servers... You can have character creation happening in one server and the world running on another... Computer networks are magical...

Depends how they do it. If they make characters global amongst all servers, IE you can log your character into any server, then they will have a separate server/database for character creation and storage. It could also be like AION, on pre-order they allowed players to log in, create their characters/reserve names, but you couldn't log into the actual game.
There is also the chance they release a character creator like EQ2, probably built into the game instead of a second piece of software.. Then you could actually make your character offline and once servers come up you can upload that data.
The data only determines what your character looks like so I don't get why you would bring up hacks.

yes but when there was maintaince (when they shut down the servers) you couldnt get to the character seceltion screen, so you could not make a character while the servers are off. I dont see the point in running a "character server days or even weeks before you open the game ones (in the end it still cost money to have those on)

He is right warrp, characters are saved and created on a server, thats 100% true. Its case by case that you can create a character when the game servers are down, more often then not you can't, but ive seen it happen. It seems unlikely that SE would leave a server up if the game server is not going to be up for a while, it costs money one way or another, and SE is a large company, so that doesnt make much sense (they dont like wasting money.
Its likely the beta has already started, which is good, that means the game is just that much more likely to come out as early as we hope. To say that the couple people posting on here are in, well....i doubt it, especially the first guys post. The format and the gramatical errors made that obvious. Others...well who knows, they already broke the NDA, so why they dont just show proof with a link, or a simple picture is beyond me, it just shows its likely they are faking.
At any rate even if the CC server is up and the game server was down, That doesnt matter because that still shows beta was started, remember CC has to be tested too. I dont know anyone who likes the CC to crash. So that has to be tested. Theres a lot more to testing than just testing the game itself.

It seems unlikely that SE would leave a server up if the game server is not going to be up for a while, it costs money one way or another, and SE is a large company, so that doesnt make much sense (they dont like wasting money.
Its likely the beta has already started, which is good, that means the game is just that much more likely to come out as early as we hope. To say that the couple people posting on here are in, well....i doubt it, especially the first guys post. The format and the gramatical errors made that obvious. Others...well who knows, they already broke the NDA, so why they dont just show proof with a link, or a simple picture is beyond me, it just shows its likely they are faking.
At any rate even if the CC server is up and the game server was down, That doesnt matter because that still shows beta was started, remember CC has to be tested too. I dont know anyone who likes the CC to crash. So that has to be tested. Theres a lot more to testing than just testing the game itself.
