Denny, one of the devs explained that the coders are already fixing bugs in the exsting systems.

However the artists either have to sit and do nothing or do some stuff that does not requiere the coders help. So they went on with tweaking the foliage.

I think this is a reasonable and logical explanation. If you cant help with anything then better than doing nothing is focusing on something else you can improve on your own.

The choice of adding grass has been a good one- it was somethign that has been missed since the start of the beta 6 months ago.

They added the grass 2 days ago in a nice looking patch. I was stunned actually  cuz i was able to play with NO problems with everything on high (or maximum that is available in the beta), plus the grass was there. They did some great things with optimization it seems. Its looking great actually, and more beautiful.

P.S. they added Tindrem in the game, the main city. But it is only viewable from a certain point, you cant access it yet lol. They'll add it in the next patch.

The only problem i see now, is the ai. It still goes psych sometimes... they'll fix it eventually.

ugh.. you have no clue how happy I am that the patcher is finally working.. Every time I reinstalled with a new patch the launcher would freeze on me and I would have to do that trick that allowed me to get around it. Now, I do not have to worry about that.

The AI is much more advance than in other MMOs. For example, the gazelles flee if I come close. But there seams to still exists some bugs in it because sometimes the mobs don't react, even thou it's not that common.

This isn't news though, as it was mentioned several times over the past months. Less some people had doubted..

Unfortunately, since SV doesn't know anything about proper software development life cycles, they just keep adding stuff in on a regular basis and keep saying it's beta. It's not.

That said, I would have given the art team a vacation so I could save some cash, and hired a consultant or something to help on the programming side of things so they get that shaken out. Also, the existing artists could just be transformed into an internal QA team as well, because they are a small team they have to be agile and able to move (last dev blog said as much).  There are a lot of options on how to improve the core of the game, without worrying about minor things like swaying grass. I don't think anybody will leave if there isn't swaying grass. I know a lot of people who will leave if the combat sucks, or magic is broken, or crafting is broken, or the flagging system is broken. And since ALL those things are broken, I'd say they are making all the wrong moves.

But it's theirs to make. I can't wait for launch.

    OMG...

Herc, your " Beta = feature complete" is laughable.  Beta comes after Alpha development, in which a milestone is reached (engine is complete, etc). Beta is testing the mechanics of that engine. Ever understand why beta patches have weird numbers..

Release is when those mechanics are set in stone... ( hopefully), but polish can come at any time and is superficial to gameplay, etc.

Hercules, you don't know jack, stop pretending to know everything, you are just trolling..  Foliage is not a game feature, is POLISH!

All the other things are being worked on too, but if grass came up "presentable" then why not include it while that artist moved on to what needed? Until the boarding gets optimized and he has to go back and alter the grass some more for effeciency, etc..

You are the only one in a hurry here...  you are the only one so worked up for this release...  why the urgency..?
