1. It is 99% of a PvE game that may have PvP in the future, but it will only be "for fun?"
2. How many of you know that it is designed to be played by a controller as well as a mouse and keyboard?
3. How many of you know that it will have a purposefully implemented "slow" combat system with a timer for the next attack versus the type of gameplay you see in "WoW?"
Some of you will respond by saying, "no duh!" everyone knows this already. As the most anticipated game on this website, I'm not sure most people who will be "trying it out" have any idea what the game is about.

Given that FFXI, the predecessor about which all three things were also true, is my most favorite MMORPG of all time, I can't say that it's blunted my anticipation for it in the slightest.
BTW, your poll forgot to include an entry for people who didn't know any of those things.

"There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain."
How many of you know that nothing is for certain in a title in development. To base your facts off of a game that isn't out yet is silly. The betas will give feedback to SE and SE will of course use the feedback like every other company to improve their game. Considering actually how much has been shown of the game, besides an early alpha build at some convention in Europe, it can easily be said that none of us know ANYTHING about the game other than what has been posted on their official website.
Given how FFXI was set up, I wouldn't be surprised if SE didn't deviate far from their previous methods.
Although you could say it's an extrapolation of information, FFXIV's "About" page says the game is to be released for PS3 and PC. Since that is the case, one would assume that the game would be playable with a controller (claim #2 in the poll).
EDIT: Sorry I was applying to Lansid and didn't hit to quote him :-P
Considering that FFXI was (and for that matter still is) one of the most successful MMORPGs ever (it's no WoW, but what is?), why would they change a winning formula?
1) Don't care.
2) Don't care.
3) We can't make ANY assumptions about the combat system until beta has arrived.
Now with 57.3% more flames!
1. I'm happy to hear that.
2. As long as it works well with mouse and keyboard why would i care ?
3. Since there is no information about the combat we cannot know.
Unfortunately no matter how many times we post that FFXIV won't have PvP or will eventually end up similar to FFXI; there will still be many asking every few days or weeks if there is PvP. heh
I am so glad there isn't PvP though...I'm so tired of the BS that co-insides with it; like the harassment, constant re-balancing and unbalanced gameplay, PKs, noob calling and laughing at your corpse, tea-bagging...not to mention the bunny-hopping stupidity. {There will be no jumping in FFXIV...thank goodness!!!!!}
lol. Why do some always say this, only for it to be a 'grasping-at-straws' statement.

Dang it! You're right... Fail poll is fail.
As to those who are sincerely interested in learning about what we do know about FFXIV, here's an awesome webpage.

Beta is about fixing bugs and language localization issues. Beta is not about changing the core concepts in the game. Nothing people say or do in Beta is going to change the fact that FFXIV is primarly, if not entirely a PVE game.
Nothing you say or do in Beta will change the combat mechanics that SE has been working on for 4 years.
The game is what it is. It is so pointless to try to change a game almost done in terms of its development before release.
The only question people should be asking is whether or not they enjoy the game as it is. Trying to change a game into something it's not may be something other companies have done, but SE is not one of them.
SE has a vision, it sticks to its vision. If there is a company that doesn't succumb to majority rule, it's SE.
One of my favorite parts of ffxi was that you could play with game without a mouse and just sit back with your keyboard in your lap and play, hell i plugged my computer into my tv and would sit on my couch with keyboard in lap and play.
Also like other people said, the no pvp isnt a bad thing because it makes balance so much easier. If you want to kill people go play a fps, if you want to kill monsters, get levels and get armor play an rpg.
My favorite mmo time period was when i could pvp in shadowbane and level in FFXI. Leveling in real pvp games is brutal because you die a lot, leveling in shadowbane was great because you could get max level in a couple of days. Leveling in ffxi took a while but it was fun because you had to group so you were always playing with people and could chat it up. Leveling in games like wow (not trying to make fun of wow) sucks imo because you run around by yourself doing quests mostly by yourself then you hit max level and BAM you -need- other people to do anything. The game essentially goes from solo play to mandatory group play unless you enjoy going into bgs all day by yourself or running around mining.
you forgot #4
Taru taru ./panic dance is awesome.
The only thing i really want to see different in ffxiv is fish botting, i swear to god if there is something similar to that where you walk outside a main city and see 10 taru with japanese names all lined up with lu shang rods botting all day, then an american player bots and gets sent to jail (they had an ingame jail, it sucked) im going to be mad =/
"One of my favorite parts of ffxi was that you could play with game without a mouse and just sit back with your keyboard in your lap and play, hell i plugged my computer into my tv and would sit on my couch with keyboard in lap and play."
Agree completely. This is one of the main reasons I initially picked FFXI over other MMOs when I started playing. I eventually fell in love with almost every aspect of the game but being able to play with a controller on my PC made the experience a lot more enjoyable.
I really dislike PVP and think it ruins PVE games. It brings along too much baggage and too many kiddies that just want a break from MW2.
The one aspect I want to see changed is the grouping to kill mobs over and over...............and over for hours on end in order to level. They need to have quest experience in FFXIV with some nice dungeon crawls for xp. I loved the dungeons in Vanguard for example. If they don't change that aspect I may not be around for very long.
Considering it is an MMO made by Square Enix, I highly doubt it would have a gameplay style that was like WoW. In the past, a timer has pretty much been standard. Also, if you look at the gameplay videos from the expo in Germany, the game looks like it has a macro based interface with timers for a small and large attack, depending on how long you would like to wait to attack.
Of course, things could always change as the game is still in Alpha. For now, we can only speculate.
I completely agree with you. My favorite part about FFXI was that I could just hold the keyboard in my lap and get everything done without ever touching a controller or mouse. I hope to see a similar feature in FFXIV. PvP seems to make games frustrating, for example, I'm currently playing AION, and an opposite faction controls 60% of the Abyss (PvP Zone), killing morale and item purchases on my side. I don't want to see another game where PvP plays an integral part of the game.
I'm in deep love now with game I hate modern mmorpgs. Most of them are only based on grind and rat race. Who will be in top first and with most kills....
I can play full PvE game when i can party up with randoms or friends using some voice communication.
Only keyboard ? u can have wireless mice and keyboard and even from logitech with touch pad or maybe there is one with trackball.
It's gonna be one big game and doesn't mater how to control it.
So SE is doing what they do best, making a fantastic PvE game... I wouldn't have it any other way.
I was skeptical when I first played FFXI and bought a controller, but after getting used to it, I liked it much better than controlling my character with the mouse/keyboard. I'm confident they'll do a great job with it in FFXIV as well.
AFAIK there haven't been any specific details on how the combat will work and it was described as using tactics rather than button spamming, so we'll have to wait and see. My biggest fear is they try to make it real-time turn-based where you queue up your skills and don't perform them as you hit the buttons, which would just kill the game for me. Hopefully that's not the case.
Do you know what?
Not everyone like PVP, some people play online games to cooperate rather than fight each other.
Nowadays every MMO has to have PvP and puntctually, they fail.
It is refreshing that a new MMO will be PVE focused, instead of implementing an half baked PvP system.
I will try this game, even if I like PvP (I currently play Darkfall).
Hardcore PVE can be as fulfilling as hardcore PvP.
By the way when this game will be released?
You know I was a huge advocate of PvP in MMO's for a very long time, but honestly not one MMORPG has had really good meaningful PvP in a very long time. None are based on skill, but instead just time devoted. I have a lot more fun in CoD and other PvP games than a half baked arena battleground so it doesn't bother me at all.
What MMORPG's are missing is massiveness, adventure, cooperation, and a world you can really feel like you can become a part of. This is what I want more than a shallow arcade game wrapped up in a neverending grind that is about half as fun as any of the other non MMORPG games it tries to be like.
Who cares if it has pvp? its final fantasy! Great story lines and fun gameplay is enough if you ask me.(if its anything like the last game)
This game will fail if it doesnt have PvP. (grins) A MMO needs PvP to survive (hehe) ! I mean look how successful AoC, WAR and Aion are! (Chuckle) Those games are becoming more and more popular each week and are changing the way the MMO market views MMOs! (rofl)
On a serious note though...there are more then enough players in the MMO market to cater to any MMOs that offers either PvP, PvE or both...gone are the days where MMOs need everything half-assed and unbalanced to survive the market.
i know it and i anticipate it!
1. im tired of pvp games where so many of the community are very immature and frustrating.
2. i love the look of the combat so far and it doesnt look tat slow to me, and its just in its alpha phase
3. ffxi was made for ps2 and it was an excellent game, so there is not merrit that it will be any less of an mmo because its made for both ps3 and pc
So you mean it will be something this isn't just like a WoW clone?! Cool, I like new ideas.
I agree that FF unique take on pve leaves most satified. But it would be cool if there was some pvp even just for fun, kinda like in FF7 where you had to work your way up to get omnislash. The problem with PVP based games is normally they don't have substance at endgame and people leave (AOC and WAR). But other games are working to balance the two (WOW and Aion). I have always loved FF and I will keep an eye on it even though I currently play Aion.
