Atm Age of Conan is the best mmorpg I have ever played, Funcom are working on a new game The Secret World and I think it might be a GOOD one:

Check out screenshots and watch the interview with devs.
"Freeform gameplay - Experience a game that has no classes or levels. Truly freeform character customization allows you to create the alter-ego you want to play, and gameplay that goes beyond the usually rigid MMO structure allows you to play the game the way you want to play it.
Hundreds of powers - Wield fiery katanas, gold-plated pistols, and deadly automatic rifles. Learn martial arts, black magic and voodoo. Choose from hundreds of powers to create a character completely customized to your liking.
Intense player vs. player combat - Take part in ferocious, non-stop player vs. player action in the Battle for Hollow Earth. Fight to control anima, a priceless resource deep within the bowels of our world that will bring unprecedented power to whichever cabal that collects it"

The timer will probably reach zero on 12:00 AM on December 21, 2012 so we still have enough time to win full tier 3 set in Age of Conan

I don't think I could ever have faith in FunCom after the overhype of AOC. The game itself was pretty typical of medieval mmos, but had a lot of flaws.
They didn't put many items in the game or loot. Then the zoning problem. That really turned me off to it. Having people talking to you in a zone only to be unable meet them because they're in a whole different instance.
They fully voice the first zone, then turn it off.
I think they should make single player games, that's what AoC felt like.
Anyways, FailCom.
I agree, FailCom. Not worth commenting on the OP.
However, I just want to say - If that timer does in fact count down to 21 DEC 2012, and assuming that that is the release date... Holy shit, they started hyping this one early.
That will end up being the worst time to release any movies or games, ever. A good half of countries around the world are dumb enough to spend their Christmas bonus on bomb shelters and instant food, I mean didn't y2k make grocers sell canned goods like mad in the last months? I'm starting to think they are predicting all these disasters in order to pump the economy through condensed soup, bottled water and toilet paper whenever they need to.

Yet another advertisement for a Funcom game disguised as a post. If their games were actually good it's players wouldnt have to try so hard to get people to play. Quality speaks for itself and Funcom's has been silent for a very long time. This post should be moved to the Secret World forums.
The most misused word on the internet:
loose
adjective, looser, loosest, adverb, verb loosed, loosing.
adjective
1. free or released from fastening or attachment: a loose end.
2. free from anything that binds or restrains; unfettered
The word you are looking for is L-O-S-E. YOu can NOT loose a game.
I understand all these Age of Conan "haters" . AoC was a bugged game and tbh it still is but it doesnt change the fact that there is no better (in my opinion) PvP mmorpg. I have played loads of mmos and most of them are poor, all you can choose is a "korean style - grind to death" game or "sweet and colourful PvE" game I havent found a better PvP game then AoC is. Open PvP 24/7, a new combat system (combos), you gain pvp xp and pvp armor by pvping not by killing mobs + no bot, no grind (interesting quests). Just compare Age of Conan mini game to Aion Dredgion. Dredgion is filled with mobs and its more about killing surkanas and PvE, you can do it twice a day (if you decide not to sleep - 3 times a day) and there is only one map. Age of Conan mini game has got 4 maps, you can do it 24/7 (if you decide not to sleep), no mobs at all, its all about your skills and PvP. Age of Conan siege is also based on PvP only, no mobs at all, what other mmorpg can give me that?
"Funcom rules" was a controversial tittle but there is one thing I know - after all these years I spent on looking for a good mmorpg (with good PvP system) I cant find anything better then AoC. But I keep looking for one... and I found The Secret World which looks awesome to me. I just wanted to share my feelings with you. Isnt it forum for discusion about mmos?
You ever hear of darkfall?
LOL!!! Priceless, and sadly probably true.
... I just laughed so hard milk spit out my nose...Failcom....rules? Yea rules the Age of Realesing Shit. So far they've yet to have anything release in even close to decent condition. They've released not 1 but 2 lemons they managed to spit on enough to make them atleast worthy of the 10 dollar bin.
They're all flash ... and little substance...they add the substance part later after much screaming and mass customar exodus. I'm not even sure how they're managing to stay afloat with their abysmal finacial issues.
btw last I heard AoC's Siege started out broke...got a little better..thenw as broken again months ago..and remains broke.
AoC was doomed by its PR department and an early release date. It is getting better, but I am not sure it is worth going back to as yet. SW is a wild card, good ideas but I already notice the same old PR department going into overdrive, making people think it is going to be the next best thing...again. As for the launch date, it will get released too early so certainly before 12/12.
Funcom are so inept that if they were in a darkened broom closet they couldn't find their own backside with both hands.
Companies these days just crank up the hype to the max, put together the most interesting looking 30 seconds of "game play" in a video and then let the fanbois waste their money on a shallow, buggy release. Four weeks after launch, the game will be tagged with the game-killing term "it has potential", then after all its servers become ghost towns the sad-faced fanbois hang around like a fart in a spacesuit saying how good the PvP is.
(Said PvP is so carebear and unrewarding it isn't worth doing, thus resembling every other MMO's carebear and unrewarding PvP. But it makes them feel better to say it.)
So did the deal Funcom cut with mmorpg.com include making random posts hyping them as well as a gagillion headlines trying to market the company and their games?

Problem though if the game is as free form as they claim with regards to skills and gear and whatnot and at the same time PvP centric is that balancing this will be a nightmare like never before.
Personally I do not mind player builds being extremely different in both utility and power, but that that is not the way this is going to go down.
Can you imagine the whine fest this will bring about though?
Followed by massive attempts to even the score, wich probably only is done by severly limiting players choices.
Leaving us with what?
That said, the concept here sounds interesting enough that I will probably at least try this game out.

TSW looks pretty interesting, at least enough to warrant a look when it sees the light of day. You know I feel funcom is a decent enough developer in terms of keeping games going and not giving up on them. They've also been behind some very good games in the single player adventure realm. If I were to judge a company solely on it's launches FC would be at the bottom of the barrel, yet so would CCP and so many others.
Where these companies differ from their bigger brethren is that they stick to a project until it improves, and their games do improve over time, in stark contrast to studios like SOE and to a certain arguments extent Blizzard with WOW. I've seen lots of opinion revolving on WOW decreasing in quality over time, if you disagree that's fine the opinion does exist though.
I have to give credit where it's due and say funcom are stand up guys, in the sense that they have enough integrity to see things through, NCsoft/EA anyone?
Look at WAR which released around the same time as AOC, and look at the difference in how the games have changed over time. WAR still has serious performance flaws all throughout their game, they've yet to make tier 3-4 interesting what so ever.
Both games are hurting in the population department, however WAR seems to be much worse off in terms of players throughout the entire game. The next issue is really EA, how much longer will they leave the lights on for WAR? Compared to how long FC will support AOC. That probably isn't to much longer, FC has already made one game free to play, and supporting smaller transactions through it and adds, they would probably do teh same for AOC, no way EA would.
IN closing, I'll just say I would trust FC far more than I would SOE, EA, Mythic or Cryptic. In offering a unique product that will get support through the years not only when it's competing with something else. I will point to companies like CCp or FC that shows a bad launch doesn't mean you have to give up on a game, as long as there are players you should support it, and they will.

Funcom created one of my favorite mmos: Anarchy Online, it was great. Then also release AoC, that was driven by poor decision, but was a game with nice graphics.
Funcom no rules, and the reason is that fail to generate something cool and correct. You need both things, and Funcom seems that can't.
About AOC. I don't know the current version, but it has not "endgame" to speak of, and somewhat feel like a pointless grind.
I would agree 100% to this but also to...

...this.
AoC IS really good now and I think especially with Craig 'Sil' Morrison at the Helm the new game director AoC is really stoking up hard and fast. Holding grudges because you got burnt at the launch is understandable BUT AoC is a different game now and I can asure you the 1.06 Patch AND the Xpac upcoming are really going to make AoC kick ass.
1.06 Guild Renown with over 100+ items and rewards, PVP Arenas and in part 2 of 1.06 PVP Towers. Also the Shrines of Bori update for PVP too is upcoming.
Xpac: 5 Full new playfields with dungeons aswell. The Alternative Advancement system which holds lots of surprises - it will blow you away!!!

I agree that funcom should probably fire everyone in their PR department and then delay all of their releases for 6 month to actually make things work... But the month and years after their terrible releases they have a great product, they work hard to give players the game they ask for (yes, they sometimes fail, mostly because they actually do give players all they ask for and therefor ruin huge chunks of the game ;P)
... a removed wall of text later: I had a point! The point is that funcoms games are worth the time because they are unique in some ways, and AO in every way. And they do get better with time
I have played a crapload of mmo's, I liked alot of them but the only game I keep coming back to is Anarchy online because there just isn't any other game like it out there
And there are some really cute bugs, like the floating grid exit *walking home on memory lane*
This game is done. Another colossal failure. 800k+ down 20k+ in under 2 years, ’nuff said. Current sub number is alot smaller now too, and dwindling.
FAIL COM IS FAILCOM. They had one good game AO and they ignored it and launched that stupid dumb instanced shit named AOC, and now they are working on another 2 games, instead of making one good, or improving AO.
YEAHHHHH Go funcom !
lol Nah realistically I didn't like their games and not really interested in a new 1.
sources or it didnt happen (i mean the number of current subs, i know the game was hit very hard)
and i agree, AO is much better and i feel like FC should focus more on the game, it just has so much more potential... i hope they start advertising it when the new graphics engine is about to go live.
its so sad , that most players know what company is good and who is shit.
if they read a little bit on the most forums the must know this...
but they always ignore it , and failcom is not the only company

Honestly AO had its run, saying they ignored it is hilarious as the game has been live since 2001. They supported that game longer than most companies support anything. Look at UO for example how many different teams have had their hands on that game? AO saw many improvements over the years and some decent expansions, that's definitely not ignoring a game.
They have two different teams working on those games, They have also moved their base of operations to an area that A: supports game developers as well B: has tons of qualified people looking for work. Their games have a better chance at quality than they really ever did.
Aren't they also "thinking" about converting AO to the AOC engine? Whether this happens or not I couldn't say, nor can anyone else. Though I see little point, they would be better off just creating a sequel.

This has Famine written all over it. Probably came here to read over Craig's latest addition and figured why not stir the embers a bit.
I'm on to you Famine. There has to be some reason you're still with Funcom unless you're simply a masochist.
