My opinion its good that graphic sucks hard nuts in Darkfall anything else would be extremly unplayable in seiges. Played few days ago a small scale seige around 60-70 people involved and barely lag. If it would have been AoC graphic every one would have 1-5 fps... Anyway you adapt fast to the crappy graphic.

Yes, such crappy graphics. That is until you turn the graphics up:
This shows how great the graphics are with a good card and on max, in a siege however it's not possible but that's why you can turn down the settings. Gameplay before graphics everytime!

I used to play EQ2 and I feel that Darkfall is MUCH better graphically.
I have seen screenshots of WoW, Aion, LoTR and even AoC and I like Darkfall graphics better.
graphics remind me of a slightly upgraded version of Morrowind. Yes, technically Oblivion graphics maybe better but the art direction on Oblvion sucks.
In the post 16bit world art direction is more important than technical graphics.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
I used to think the graphics were bad too until I turned them up. They look great at higher settings. I suppose it depends on what kind of rig you're using.

Graphics/world remind me of Vanguard, but a lot more detailed, shadows etc
oh, c'mon, give me a break; graphics are probably the weakest aspect of the game. While some areas are interesting, and the shadows are impressive, the overall gfx engine screams it's a decade old (distance fog ffs).
Not saying the game isn't interesting though, although still very rough around the edges and imbalanced...
The way the world is constructed is extremely similar to Vanguard, large and seamless, which is what he was getting at. Also, graphics upgrades are constant, even already they're better than most MMOs out there.

I suppose we should also point out to people that if graphics are all they care about then they should play AoC. I don't know why people care about graphics so much in the first place. Some games look incredible but are shallow and boring. Darkfall has a good mix of nice graphics on higher settings and a deep, immersive world.
If you only care about graphics, go play AoC. If you want a deep game that's a blast to play, give Darkfall a try. IMHO, people over complicate things.

I agree. taking Morrowind to Oblivion as a classic example. Oblivion is better technically but the world is boring and un-creative compared to Morrwind.
Sure graphics do matter when talking about say the 16 bit world but anymore its more about art direction.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
The graphics are decent, the art direction is decent, the engine is flexible and has potential. Even the textures are not bad, although they should have made use of bump-maps more (IMO the main problem with most games)
The issue with DFO however, the real reason for the hate are the crap animations, there is simply no excuse. I suspect it's due to the devs -not- using motion detection with actors. (as is the case with the vast majority of AAA titles)

Yes, such crappy graphics. That is until you turn the graphics up:
The word "graphics" encompasses more than just how the game looks. it includes aesthetic style, which should be cohesive throughout the game, technology, and animations. In that video, there are definitely some pretty "graphics", but there also some that give pause, like the actual hand and bow in FPS view (it would look worse with a Maharim hand), the shadows are slightly rough-edged, there's an unusual sheen on the deer, the trees, the ground, etc...
Based on style alone, does it look bad (overall)? No. Generally speaking, it looks pretty nice (in this video). Are they the most amazingomqwtfbbqsauce graphics evar!?!? No. For all the pretty things, even on high settings, there are some that just don't look great either, especially animations. Here's an example of what I would consider to be poor "graphics" stylistically:
Check out their feet! Their toes are flat, because Aventurine is just using a skin over a relatively shapeless model. I do not consider this to be an example of "excellent graphics", especially since it's not even consistently used for the entire character model. From a gameplay perspective, does this matter? No, but it's an example of one of many graphic elements in the game that just aren't that great. With the exception of the flag (it seems oddly prominent) and the actual models, the surrounding "world" looks pretty good.
Style-wise, Darkfall is a decent looking game on a good system - it's not the best and not the worst, IMO.

animations and characher models is something that I personally couldnt care less about but having said that they are currently working on large upgrades in this area of the game becuase of player feedback and concern over it.

The animations definitely need to be improved and I think they are in the next expansion. I don't think they're the worst I've seen but they could use an upgrade. But once again, if animations and graphics are all anyone cares about then they should play a different game.
"Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. It is a brand on the imagination that affects the individual who has suffered it, forever." - Noam Chomsky
Please name the games (mmo's) that have better char animation than DF except WoW and Aion? Thank you...yea,don't say Lotro plz...
I could name a whole list. Would be a pointless endeavor, though, because it comes back to subjectivity. in other words, what others think looks good, you might not, and so the whole discsussion would be pointless. That game has been played here before... Someone lists a game, you say "lololol that game's animations suck!" and so on.
That said, animations in DF have been cited as one of its weak points and not very good overall *many* times for a long time. I've said that during the riding animations, in particular, they look like stiff mannequins. If I'm not mistaken, even AV has noted that they're intending on improving them. So... if AV them self acknowledges they need work, are you going to pose that question to them?
Instead of looking for problems why cant people just enjoy the experience. Leave Darkfall if you nothing better to do then whine and moan, because frankly the folks enjoying Darkfall could care less! :-)

"couldn't care less", meaning they could not care less than they already do. If they could care less then they obviously care, somewhat.
Die-hard fans may not care as much about the graphics as others, but Aventurine is working on making the game appeal to a larger audience and graphics are an important component in that process. They recognize their graphics can be improved and are working to make that happen. After all, graphics are what the player looks at. If they were absolutely unimportant, we'd still be in the MUD era. If the gameplay was immaculate then graphics wouldn't be quite as necessary, but Darkfall's play hasn't been, which is evidenced by the litany of non-content changes made by Aventurine in the last year (near constant balancing, tweaking, hot fixing, exploiter banning, etc...).
All this talk about gfx... if you have enough time to worry about how 1337 everything looks, come stand beside me, I promise gfx will be the least of your worries ;p
game play > gfx everytime!
You cannot have massive (200+) battles with crysis gfx unless you enjoy slideshows. And on a side-note, you cannot enjoy 200+ battles hiding in the noob city's. Get out, break out, and start living in Agon... if you dare!

Graphics may be dated, but if you have a rig to push them they looks pretty good. Considering the nature of massive battles and a seamless world, they are never going to be as sharp as an even mildly instanced game. I still prefer Darkfalls art direction and lighting/fog affects to pretty much any other game on the market, it just has a lot of character. The environments can be really breathtaking in certain situations (sunrise/setset, water effects with ligh reflection, shadows, etc).
Character models and animations suck. But supposedly they are working on it. And its not really as important since you spend 2/3 of your time in 1st person.

Added there what i think is the key word; some areas are nice, mainly areas with level ground where you cannot see the very short draw distance.
But overall, graphics scream 'I'm a decade old' in the game. It's not game-breaking for now, but they should do something to improve the feeling of immersion for the players. Getting on top of a hill and seeing 300m in the distance is, well...not gonna cut it in the long run.
Glad to hear so many new people giving this game a chance tbh.
I don't know why some here started discussing graphics, but comparing DF graphics to 10-year old games like EQ1 for example is laughable to say the least.
Also, please don't confuse the overall "graphics" term with "animations". While player animations appear (from low quality youtube videos) to not be a strong point of DF, I personally (and many others) think they do the job just fine, in fact I'm glad they are like this because they have probably been designed to maximize efficiency in big battle situations.
Will I like to see graphics improved? Yes.
Will I like to see everything else improved? Yes. Obviously :P

Compared to anything those old EQ graphics are a heap of shit, here's my DFO pvp vid of last weekends siege with settings at the lowest for performance and fps was low due to fraps click.

Perhaps the biggest problem DF has in the field of graphics currently is the small draw distance, and the abrupt fogging that occurs beyond that point.

Who cares? There are games aimed for people with more interest in graphics over gameplay, and other with gameplay over graphics. For me, DF is more about gameplay over graphics. It is no secret. There is a reason why samdbox MMOs have lower graphic over the themepark : )
I agree, but I dont think draw/view distance is actually part of the graphics. For me it's a game breaking issue. I want to have a good overview about the area, and I wan't to be able to see distant lands, hills, trees, structures. It makes the game more realistic. I like the game mechanics, but I am not resubbing it for the next month due to extremly short draw distance.
