They are not there to better the game for themselves or other users (since they have already paid for it in some cases {pre-order}) but are there to get their monies worth.
This is why pay to play betas are a bad idea.
Beta Testing is a 'job' even if you volunteer and do it for free.  Your obligation is to report bugs and exploits.
But when you pay - you become a customer the obliation becomes theirs.

Oh and no pay to play beta?  You get your money back?

How does a CO subscription buyer get 'his money back' when you they the game?
And read the advert.  The beta was SOLD as a part of a retail product.

See that's actually some flawed logic. Firstly, people are mistaken if they thought they were paying for beta. Beta was always offered as a bonus for whatever else you were paying for. The cost would not have changed if beta access wasn't included, it had no monetary value.

Also, even if that case were true, that doesn't give them the right to use an exploit. What happens if you make use of an exploit during the live version of a game? You get banned. That's after you've paid for it.

There really is no good excuse to take advantage of an exploit.

Isn't it funny that so many fans scream and yell, "There is end game, they just haven't turned it on yet"..  Really?  I take it you speak from inside knowledge or experience, therefore, what is  this end game you speak of?   What is it?  And why have NO devs from Cryptic come forward to settle the debate..  And I don't want to hear some lame response from the devs saying, "we are adding stuff each time we patch"..

I want DETAILS.. not vague political responses that can be construed so many ways..  give us DETAILS of this end game..

OH.. and as the reporting bugs in open beta..  Did anyone sign a NDA or any agreement that requires them to report bugs? If not, then it's pretty much just play to play, who cares about the bugs..

Yes, if you had of actually read the EULA you agreed to when you first entered the beta client there was a part in there about reporting bugs. Anyone who participated in OB had to agree to that page to continue.

You will probably have to pay extra for any end-gmae content just like in Champions.

Box+ $15 a month + microtransactions is just not enough for Atari/cryptic and their cheap game that took only 2 years to make.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Um... just out of curiosity, how many hours a day do you play on average...?

100 hours per 2 months is less than 2 hours a day (1 hour 40 minutes give or take a few minutes depending on which two months).  Probably about average for people playing a new MMO title. The "hardcore" crowd will have their first toon maxed in less than a week. That's not a problem in itself, but Cryptic should probably look into adding more time-sinks for max level players if it only takes 100 hours to get through all the non-repeatable content in the game. Just an observation. I have no interest in STO, just stumbled into this thread at random and saw a basic math question. ;p

And ruin the surprise for all the people who haven't gotten there yet? Shame on you!

The TTH article that had the community up in arms about the skill cap also happens to have the info you seek on the "endgame". Currently, it involves fleet (group) action against the Borg Queen. It is highly unlikely that anyone outside of CB has been able to test this part of the game, hence the lack of knowledge of it. Also, through my short time in the OB, I have come across lots of Undine story elements that lead me to believe they will play a part in future "endgame" (my speculation of course).

@OP: Not to flame too much or insult you, but posting on a 3rd party site forum looking for this info was probably not the best option. A small amount of Google-fu would have turned up the info in pretty short order. Going there would have prevented 6+ pages of people arguing over pay-to-play betas and getting off-topic.

    Hope this helps somewhat.

You ever notice how many times you say the words "I thought" and "nothing" in the same sentence? Funny coincidence

Check out the post WhiteLantern made, he sounds like a pretty smart guy.

The best way to find out what the endgame content is? Play through the game. You don't just watch the final episode of the season, you watch all the episodes. This way, you're actually a part of the journey rather than reading it in little white letters on some webpage and assuming you know what it's all about without having experienced it yourself.

Honestly, too many people make comments on this game about things they've never bothered trying to experience.

You make one thing clear.  End-game content has not been tested in any remotely good way.  You clearly having played it and are just BSing about it.  I KNOW this because you love to go on and on about game features you do know about, and here you do not.

A bunch of badly balanced and barely tested "end-game" content that probably looks just like leveling content isn't reall end-game content at all.

I love part where you try to claim I'm talking about something I supposedly don't know about, and then you go on to describe the end-game content that you've actually admitted you don't know about.

    Hypocrisy much?

Tell me, how do you claim to know how much the end-game content was tested? I'd love to know your source since you were asking about it not a few posts a go.

You don't know anything about it.  That's clear.  If you did you could easily prove me wrong by talking about it.  Instead you are playing word games.

And I know it wasn't tested much because one of the most rabid CB testers knows nothing about it nor do the other CB players I know and no one in OB knows anything about it either.  If it wasn't tested by CB or OB people, then it just wasn't tested much at all.

I find it amusing how you still continue with your hypocritic attacks. Once again, go read WhiteLantern's post, he seems like a pretty smart guy.

Also I might suggest that you're getting your "info" from people who seem to have the same agenda (and level of knowledge about the game) as you do.

What is this "end-game" content your all talking about? Didnt you play the beta? There IS no end-game content. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. It isnt there.

Just like the Klingon content btw.

... and most other stuff in this "game"...

80 hours of play in about 4 days... sounds about right.

I really hope they have a proper end game ready to 'turn on'?
