I have been waiting for a Sci Fi mmo since I left SWG when it moved to the New Game Experience. Sadly, I have to agree with other posters about the shortcomings of this game. While I love to solo, the instances are EVERYWHERE you go (even the Earth Starbase), and the lack of exploration takes all the immersiveness out of this game (for me). The away missions are extremely limited and disappointing. The space combat is better than ground missions but not much variety. The test server was down a whole lot, so I didn't get to play beta very much, but that is OK, I played to Lt. Commander and got in enough time to see it wasn't what I wanted. Some players said the experience gets better past level 11. Perhaps.  Vanguard: Saga of Heros had a terrible beta and now it is a pretty solid game. Maybe STO will improve with time and I will try it again later. Oh, I have to add that Cryptic's lure to get you to buy several preorders to stack preorder benefits strikes me as blatant commercialism. I don't know what the "Cryptic Store" is about, but I can't say I care much for microtransaction stores either, particularly in a pay-to-play game. For those of you who chose to play this game, have fun and I wish you live long... and prosper!  Thanks for letting me vent.

Its the people who have to/would like to  have all the shwag that buy multiple copeies, and thats their choice to do so no one HAS to buy multiple copies. Me I debated between the Consitution class star ship and the borg bridge officer..I finally picked the borg bridge officer, and made my pre order. Cryptic did not have to include any free/promo/shwag with pre orders. but the did. So If some one likes beer, and they go to a pub witch has multiple beers on tap is that commercialism?

Edit: Honestly if I had some extra $$ l mite have bought one or 2 more copies for some of the in game items, and than given or sold for cheap to a friend/family/co worker. Oh and IF you read the Faq on the pre order items it does state they MAY in the future offer them at the cash shop.

the critics from all the major gaming mag's/shows will probably love the game. Most players will like the space to ground combat thing and the grahpics are pretty good. However, if Cryptic pulls what they did with CO this game will come to haunt them if they ever make another game.

No, you are right, nobody is forced to buy the preorder. But it is not like a pub. If you go to a pub, the variety of beers on tap is an integral part of the service. However, Cryptic, on its website, was actively promoting that preorders from different vendors will stack. Perhaps you are used to such a "commercial" but I am not and I did not like such a lure. For me, it is all water under the bridge... I too had the preorder with the borg bridge officer but now that order is cancelled. Haha, maybe you are going to get the box that was originally set aside for me! Good luck with that and have fun.
