I dont know why so many here assume that there will be a problem with asses abusing the voice chat. They had it in lotro and 99% of the people I grouped with were very nice.
because there is that 1% out there gives all the other 99% a bad name, and that 1% gives fuel to the people arguing against voice chat and they grossly exagerate to try and prove a point.
(talking about mmorpg's not psn/xboxlive, thats a whole different beast in terms of voice chat)
again people don't want a set in voice chat, just an optional side one, like having Vent that you can setup in game, not being put into a chat session every time you join a group or hear people when you walk by.
Personally, I just think the Voice Chat world and the non-Voice Chat world do not mix. There should be servers where VC is banned altogether (at the threat of expulsion from the server), and there should be servers where VC is completely allowed with an easy to use in-game system. Why? From my perspective, as a non-VCer, VCers ruin my experience. I hate to say it but it's true and I'm not the only one. If you group with VCers, they'll forget you're a non-VC, and get furious you didn't respond to their needs (you'll find out about it in private tells from other groupmates). Then there are groups that flat out require you to join their channel. Sure you'll accept not joining the l33t3rz, but it ruins your day that you're judged on something that idiotic. And then again, there's the complete demolition of the role-playing environment. I actually work 9 hours a day in the real world (unlike some gamers), and I like to get away from hearing people when I log in.
I think i read somewhere that Sony has an "age limit" on vocie chat in their games. Some lawsuit a few years back about some pediophile and their games. So now if the game has a certain age rating they will not allow voice chat through them. Not sure how this will effect FF.
