Greetings!!

(AO) Tribulations (AO)/(AO) Alpha Omega (AO) is a storied (and historically controversial) organization that has come back to Anarchy Online... for the sheer nostalgia of VANILLA AO!!! :) We are looking for individuals who want to be part of an organization that is exclusively playing the Vanilla content of Anarchy (No expansion content for leveling, raiding and what not). We feel that the way the game was back in its original state, when Rubi-ka was the world, and shadowlands did not exist, was the most fun that was had in any MMO.

We have our own Ventrilo, Webpage, and our own storage. We are looking for individuals that are interested in gathering a group of players that are down to meet up and run the old school "mission" and do RK exclusive raiding.

If you are interested, please contact me on this thread, send me a PM, or send me an email ;maitrader@tribulations.org

P.S. we will be playing on RK2

Yikes that will be some fun and hardship too. What is your corps size?

well 6 of us just returned to Anarchy to start our organization once more, and we are a brother organization of Alpha Omega which is (unofficially on site) 500+ in size, but more or less 20 - 30 actives in Alpha Omega. Our organization is starting with 6 and looks to grow from there...

We have more or less tried EVERY MMO currently released, and decided on froobing it up and seeing what we can gather to run the old school elite mobs and equip the old school gear to the best of our ability. Its a project... but one that we see as FUN :)

The game is aged, yes... however its still a bunch of fun to get some oldschoolers and newschoolers together, cracking open some beers and shoot the Sh**... we look at it as the online social equivalent of a barbershop in Chicago with the "create a really tough science project", aspect added to it ;)

There's quite a few fr00b-only orgs out there, and a lot of high level fr00bs in the game (aka lvl 200).  Saw a group of them tackling Hollow Island recently.  Stuff like HI and Mercs take on a whole new meaning when done by pure fr00b raids.

Vanilla AO, having memories of my level 200 engie, leveled all the way up doing missions, think i had over 6k tokens.  Thanks but no thanks.

Btw is the engine update still schedule for 2021 ?

    This sounds particularly awesome.

When I was playing AO for a time, after SL came out, everyone was PL'ing on hecklers and hardly anyone did the old world content anymore...

To give an idea... I never even got through ToTW. No, I'm not joking.

Could never find anyone interested in doing it... because it was "faster" to level elsewhere, etc.

I might seriously look into this... hell I have a MP on RK2 who's only in their 40s... so that might work well. Or, could always start a new character.

    This.

    Shadowlands ruined the game.

Of course....this is coming from an old "god mode" GA4 fixer.

Ah....running BS missions....roller rats in chests....having to go down the lift three times to survive a boss fight....

....and shouting for two hours for a doc that would bail after the first three rooms.....ugh.

Yeah.. I always liked SL areas and the concept and such... Some great environment and creature design, etc. It just seemed so out of place in AO.  Really should have been developed into its own MMO; the overall map was certainly large enough. Perhaps it could be a tie-in to the AO "universe" or something -shrug-

I remember friends of mine who frigging loved AO were disgusted with how symbiants (if I recall) sorta "killed" the traditional implant system as they were overall easier to get and by far overpowered most anything equivalent from RK - at least that's how I think I remember it; it's been a while. Friend of mine used to have an Atrox whose preferred weapon was an I-beam.

Well, the rumor at the time was that SL was another MMO that Funcom had been working on, on the side....but for some reason had decided to just tack it onto their current game as an "expansion".

Blah. I can't believe I even pre-ordered that crap. I even got the "Jobe Luxury Apartment".....which is basically worthless except as a grid term to RK proper.

SL turned my fixer into a weak soldier with laughable runbuffs and HoTs. Mind you, I wasn't a fixer for FoTM reasons either...I had been a fixer long before the craze set in. And that's one of the things that made me so mad...I had no alts, or anything....my identity in that game was being a fixer. I hooked people up with guns and armor, ("summon that ammo baby!") and had one of the sexy yalms from the NW expansion (to show off my uber wealth)....and a gun that fired incredibly slow but had a 7k burst (Manex FTW!!). I could evac my team from a fight as the doc went down and literally save them from death, since they would find themselves alive and well in teh grid (back when death meant REAL xp loss).

    -=sigh=-

SL was AO's NGE. No doubt about it.

The reason its been delayed since it was conceived was due to the fact they switched from the Ogre (original upgrade engine) to Dreamscape (I think thats what its called) AOC Engine which will also be in use in TSW!

With that said, they are working on getting everything upgraded and will be in the same supreme graphics AoC is sporting (which is currently the best graphical engine in any MMO).

For those people who are worried that their computer wont be able to run the game? Fear not, the option to continue using the current graphics will be intact... FC is just giving the option to those who have beast computers the ability to play the game in all its splendor.

As for our organization, we will not be relishing in E-peen heaven.. we are just a group of people in no mass rush to get through the game the oldschool way, while doing everything the oldschool way was done ;) It is a massive challenge... a challenge that will be met through commoradorie, organization, team-work, and fun.

We have ALL been searching for a home... but not a home with no challenge... alot of us want a home that provides us with the necessity to actually use ones brain.. this game does that... and it provides the type of character immersion that allows for some of the tightest commoradorie to form.. I look forward to guilding with all who want to participate in this undertaking!!

All the MMO's that we were waiting for, were for the most failures.... whats left, is the tried and true, Anarchy Online!!!

Hit me up if your interested in joining us!! would be awesome to get 2 - 5 teams going out to mission and instance weekly, different times, different days.. lets make this happen!

This... abso-frigging-lutely this. I'd pretty much given up on ever seeing anything like that again in a MMO. Nice to see others still value that kind of play style and aren't in a mad race to get to the "finish line".

cool, rk2 needs more (high level) fr00b orgs, most of em died down though theres still a solid core of players left. Respect for the froobs who tried Hollow Island, even paid players have a hard time there (or had?) havent raided it for a while but my 220 enf got his ass handed to him at the end boss(es).

i also have to mention that the high level froobs are the most friendly people in the game

I am a great friend of Maitrader and am joining him on this endeavor.  Like many others that I've talked to regarding this game, Mait and I have a special place in our hearts for Rubi-ka.  It sounds rather lame but this game has given us so much over the years.  Its our "virgin" experience...you know that first love that you can't ever seem to forget?

AO is a sandbox MMO meaning you can develop your character however you want more than a game like, say WoW.  This is because each level you're given points that you divide up amongst your skills.  How many points are used up by a skill is dependent on your race and class.  For instance an enforcer is a melee tank class and so it would make sense to make it easier to raise melee weapon skills over ranged weapons.  However, this is a sandbox MMO, so if you wanted to use an assault rifle on your enforcer you could.

For many new players this sandbox style of MMO can be daunting but the wealth of resources online (as well as us in game or on vent) will reward you with gratification as you prepare your player for action.  Some people view this downtime as only holding them back from leveling but to enjoy AO is to enjoy all the character prep work!  Being lvl 50 usually means that at the very least you will be able to equip a lvl 50 item, (assuming you haven't completely borked your IP distribution) but what sets AO apart from other games is that if you put in some effort  you could actually equip a lvl 100 or perhaps even 150 lvl item depending on how much effort you put into it!  Some people like this, while others don't.  You don't have to be freakin uber to play the game though, but twinking even a little bit brings much more gratification to the experience.

I will say that the majority of the people in AO are actually friendly and willing to help.  There are those that are rather "Elitist" and won't help you but most of these people are busy forming their own teams with alts, power leveling through hecklers in SL, camping SL rares, and for the most part avoiding RK.  These are people that have to have be the fastest to the best.  We used to be like this but we're much more interested in enjoying friendship and the content available in the game rather that just using each other for the acquisition of uber items.  MMOs are like life, if you use everyone you meet for personal gain, eventually you'll find yourself with a bunch of "stuff" but no friends to share it with and no respect from your peers to revel in.

I will note that the hardcore "elitist" players of AO are different from the people seen in other MMOs purposely destroying global chat, calling others names, making fun of them, and generally being an arse of themselves.  At least these elitist people tend to keep to themselves. :)  Needless to say though, we've got enough experience in our core group to be able to help with anything you come across in "Vanilla" AO.  If not, we can figure it out together.

Our group isn't really for those people looking to get to lvl 200 the fastest possible.  We do shoot the sjit like Mait says.  Our pace can be quick when rolling a dungeon or quest but for the most part we're chillin, putting a few beers back, talking about life, and just getting to know each other better while we have a good time.  AO used to have a great, great, community and I think we aim to epitimize this with our actions.  We've always strived to give first, take second and we hope to game with like minded people so that we can continue this heritage.

The original AO ran for I think 3 years before SL came, thus there is a lot to do!  I mean it stood alone for three years...  When I first started it took me two year to get to level 175+.  My second character took half that.  Leveling in SL with Heck teams can trim this down further but you have to ask yourself, "what is the point in that"?  Even with years under my belt in this game, I've got places I've never been on RK and things I've never done.  I'm looking forward to doing these things with our casual froob vanilla style guild.  Maybe you are too? :)

    Porv

PS: If you haven't heard of AO Tribulations or AO Alpha Omega, I will say that we used to be one of the most powerful and admired guilds on RK2, definitely top 5 on clan side.  We were the first guild to take down Peter Lee at Mercs too which was followed by a ninja looting, heh.  :)

  • MaitraderMaitrader Member UncommonPosts: 389

Well spoken Porvs! :) I am sure we have some folds still on the wall as far as joining our project... to them I say, join us! There is nothing to loss ans so much to gain organizationally ;) lets make it happen!

Soo... I applied on the official forums and have seen one person from the org in-game sitting by the grid thingy in Old Athen... but I have not seen nor been able to contact anyone else.

When/where is everyone else on, and on what character names?

My character is Lieulu... Here's a screeny from just last night with the rest of her "family". I'd literally only logged in about 15 minutes earlier and was still re-learning the basics (lots of "basics" to learn in AO :-p)... thus my action bar was still empty. I have to re-learn how to make scripts for my pets and such.

Also have to go through 4 bags worth of inventory, most of which I have no idea what I was doing with lol. I have one pack full of monster parts that I intended to turn to plasma once my skill was high enough to do so.... other than that... umm.. no clue. Ahh the fun of coming back to a game after a few years away.
