1.06 patch STILL didn't fix DX10. Game killer for me.

I seriously cannot believe this. The game looks great, albeit the damn advanced shadows option which makes the game look phenomenal still DOESN'T WORK with Crossfire.

I mean, people have been complaning about it since August of last year and it is STILL unplayable with advanced shadows on.

Now, I can't post on the official AoC forums cause I am just using a trial, would have bought and loved the game 10 times now if they fix that damn issue.

The game looks a step below Crysis w/ all the options on and I think my brand new 5970 and i7-920 @ 4.2ghz can run it like butter.

Too bad there's no acknowledgment of the issue or anything. They just keep throwing out patches with new content and not fixing the god forsaken DX10.

Is anyone else put off by this?

When I turn on advanced shadows the whole damn game flickers when you move the camera, if an epileptic walked in the room they'd probably die on the spot.

I can't even contact Funcom to tell them that this probably is fckin annoying to many people and it is quite common to use a SLI/Crossfire setup these days! FIX IT FUNCOM! You'd have a 6 month sub from me if you did dammit.

Gahhhhh, I want to play the game so bad but I won't do it w/o advanced shadowing, makes the biggest difference in graphics quality i've seen yet.

Anyone?!

I really don't see how that's a game breaker. Annoying, yes, but if you enjoy the game why not play it regardless?

  • Peteman990Peteman990 Member Posts: 14

Errr... I was refering to Crysis... Cryengine 2. It doesn't look that good of course.

But it looks damn near close with all the DX10 effects. FIX ADVANCED SHADOWING ON CROSSFIRE SETUPS FUNCOM!

  • Destiny2010Destiny2010 Member UncommonPosts: 327

AoC uses the Dreamworld Engine (Funcom in-house engine) for all their games, not Crytek. Its also wide spread know that Nvidea just works better with AoC, at least early after release, and I have a GTX 260 (old version) been running DX10 since it came out. Crossfire might not be supported, but its not Funcom`s job to make sure all cases fit either. ATI has to bear some of it also.

I got a new computer. The fastest damn rig you can buy. I expect to be able to play me games in their full glory and not have proprietary in-house PoS game engines tell me that I can't use the features of my graphics card cause FunCom is too damn retarded to fix the issue that has been noted hundreds of times on the forums for almost a year!

I would love to play, but the game just doesn't look too good without advanced shadowing. Biggest change out of all the DX10 options and it frustrates the hell outta me for it to "work," per say, but give you some mad epilepsy if you turn it on.

The shadows just go wacko, big black boxes shootin all over the place and shadowing jittering like a bat out of hell.

It annoys me the most that, A. Funcom has yet to acknowledge this issue which has been stated A LOT, B. There is no way to contact FunCom and actually tell them to fix their shit cause it is preventing me from playing the game.

My 5970 w/ i7-920 @ 4.2ghz w/ 8GB corsair 1600mhz does not want to turn OFF options, it already runs AoC at 60+ fps. I want to play it in its full glory or not at all!

While I understand your frustration they really need to work on additional features to serve 100% of community and not those 0.5% ones with uber rigs and ATI cards.

One of my guildie bought almost the same setup as you however he knew when he order 2x xfire ATI's that he wont be able to use advance shadows ( and yes quality is much much better with those ).

I have a feeling you knew it too that's why I dont know why you rage about it, except if you did not know before.

( in that case always do some research before )

dude you are absolutelly right on the money .like at one time nividia hadnt released a patch to make sli avail for aion

it was funny to ear the player(wtf how come sli is so slow on this game)it wasnt supported back then by nvidia.they corrected it later

i think ati is slower to release new patch .nividia is a monthly  patch thing!

Try to disable crossfire- one 5870 chip should cope with the game just fine too and advanced shadows will work.

    I play with a quad 64 bit w/ 9800gt maxed everything..including advanced shadows without a hiccup.

It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.

I agree new content and such should be priority, but, come on. I have seen people complaining of this from June last year. Ok, if they acknowledge that it is indeed a real issue. That's great. If they say they are working on it, that's great. If they contacted ATI and told them to get their stuff together in AoC w/ flickering shadows.

I mean, come on, the game has been out since 08' and patch after patch has seen no fix to this. I even read that the 1.5 patch killed a lot of people's shadows whether it be Xfire/SLI or DX9/DX10. Flickering shadows in AoC seems to be commonplace.

I didn't know about it beforehand. I mainly built this rig to play Crysis on max at 1920x1080 w/ some mods. Runs smooth as silk at 50fps w/ real life-sis up and running.

I always had AoC in the back of my mind, and always wanted to try it, but after hearing the horror stories that was release I never tried it. I read that they had implemented DX10 features a while back, and figured by now any problems would be worked out in that department and I would try out the game.

I was extremely surprised how much I liked the game. At first, I entered the game w/ DX9 and everything on low and I thought to myself, "this game looks awful, what was I thinking,"

Threw everything up to max, turned on DX10 and when I entered the game again I was blew away. Crysis water!

Then I noticed this flickering shadows all over the place, but also saw the extremely detailed shadows, moving as well ala Crysis. I was extremely impressed.

It was always something that I had wanted to see. An MMORPG w/ amazing graphics that pull you in to the game even more. AoC seemed above and beyond what I had expected from the graphics department.

Ran smooth as hell w/ 8x AA and 16x AF as well, every single option checked. Of course, advanced shadowing gave a lot of issues. I spent the remainder of the night looking for a fix or anything to ease my frustration. Found a fix for SLI (non driver-realted, some nHancer tweaking,) that fixed it for SLI users.

Us Crossfire users are left in the dust it seems. I mean, if it was parallax mapping I could live without it. Any other option, but advanced shadowing gives the game a whole nother degree of realism and it looks great. I can tell because when my character is stationary and the camera is not moving it works! Works 100%!

Just when you start moving the shadows start freaking out. Seems like a strange issue, and seems to me like it could be fixed quite easily. The most frustrating part is that  I would have thought FunCom would have done something about it by now, that it has been going on for such a long time.

I also don't own the game so I cannot post on the forums (who knows if they read them anyways?) Just bid on a 99c copy of the game on ebay and am about to win it here in about 15min.

It hurts to turn off advanced shadowing, LOL. My 5970 is asking me to give it some work to do.

With Catalyst A.I. off (i.e disabling Crossfire,) I hate that they are connected to one another as it may just be a Catalyst A.I. problem and not Crossfire itself. ATI's drivers have gone downhill since my last one, the 9800XT. Was a great card.

Well, with Crossfire off I get some bad FPS. It's about 1/4 of what I get in Crossfire mode and most of the AA has to go off as well.

Compromises, compromises. I would prefer the issue just be known to be it ATI OR Funcom. It can't be the hardest thing to fix.

10.1 ATI drivers did not fix the issue not did the Funcom 1.06 patch. So it seems neither are working on it. Tis sad, very, very sad.

DX10 is still in its "testing" phase, which is why it says DX10 Test. My guess is they wont even bother taking care of it till the expansion drops with some of the new engine elements such as the new lighting system.

Just my opinion, but if you're that hung-up on the best graphics, I'm guessing MMO's are not for you.

  • ForceQuitForceQuit Member Posts: 350

Yeah, it sucks it's broken, but honestly I don't understand the rage that you wouldn't play the game without advanced dynamic shadows.  I mean, if it's fun to you, and you are enjoying the gameplay, why not sub?

  • ToolfanToolfan Member UncommonPosts: 80

If you want to report your problem than why not when you're at the game launcher choose the "support" option?

If the OP is anything like me he is PISSED that he payed for something that was touted for  months on end only to find it completely missing from the game at launch even though it was printed on the box etc...   Now here it is almost what 2 years later and it still doesn't work as promised.  I understand the need for content etc.  for the majority as stated earlier, but  you have to put forth what was advertised / touted for so long.

i play aoc at start they had to deactivate lot of feature then a couple month later (maybe later)they reactivated it .

if its on ati part(i would be very surprised since it was lunched way back)they should fix it

but its probably on the game maker end !probably havent found what thing is could be just a  very small thing but in those million line of code its like searching a needle in the hay stack

Now you know why Ati cards are cheaper...

It aint only in  age of conan.

The "nvidia" logo on the box should give you a clue. Now get of your high horse and blame everyone else and take a look in the mirrior. Thats the one that failed at research before investing.

    Gamebreaker?

I just came back after a disappointing STO and the graphics at DX9 are the best in gaming, bar none!

Yes, DX10 would be nice, but i have everything jacked to max in DX 9 and with 60 fps even while pvp'in, this game is about the best out there.

The NVIDIA logo on game boxes and game intros is payed advertising. It has no bearing as to compatibility or system requirements.

    OP wasn't given top quality

Its not wrong to demand it (top quality).

For me its based on a dream back in 2007-2008 and so I don't expect it (though I too have a nice rig).  I also don't favor graphics that much and would prefer to actually sacrifice graphics if I could get some quality gameplay.

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.

Just say it already ATI sucks, I've had a few of there cards and well had nothing but problems with them. Go nvidia.<----see the period

It's the turth. Never buy ATI if you want something to work. I learned this almost a decade ago.

That horse has been beaten for 2 years now. Nobody cares anymore. Get over it.

Also technically, they promised a DX10 client (which AoC currently has), they never made any promises on any one specific DX10 feature. So you really have no leg to stand on.

Now onto the Nvidia vs ATI debate going on. I'm currently using a GTX280. Even though I own a ATI HD5780. The ATI card simply can't run LOTRO in DX10, it crashes every few minutes. Pulled the card out and tried it on my other computers (I have a few, with a varying degree of hardware/software variations between them all); they too also crashed constantly in LOTRO DX10. Also, the game Prototype does not run at highest settings, again constant crashing.

I ended up pulling out the ATI card and giving it to one of my bros (he had a 8800GTX so it was time to upgrade). I'll be sticking with the green team from here on out.

Well, that's not really all that true.  When Nvidia and a studio/publisher have a co-branding agreement, the game is usually coded to work best on Nvidia and poorly on ATI.  ATI tends to use de jure standards, Nvidia always tries to use closed standards. Due to their architectural differences, games can be optimized for one over the other.  Nvidia have all sorts of tricks up their sleeve to make games work best on Nvidia and give ATI all sorts of problems.

I'm not an ATI fanboy, and I don't think they are angels or anything,  I try to be objective in this industry.  Some people have problems with ATI, but guess what have you seen the horror stories with Nvidia too?  The chip industry lets face it isn't the most noble.  I understand people have different experiences, well here's mine:  I've yet to experience any major problems with ATI.   As for LOTRO I run DX10 Maxed without any problems on my 4850 which I bought over a year and a half ago for less than $150.   All my other games I can run maxed or nearly maxed without any problems except for an shader model glitch in cryostasis that only affected ATI cards, but  guess what ... the developers first patch fixed that.

Nvidia makes some good cards too sometimes.  But their business ethics are terrible, and their cards are usually overpriced.  I wish Intel hadn't shelved Larrabee, so that we could introduce even more competition into this space.  ATI has plenty of room to improve, especially with their drivers, but its ridiculous to see comments like "now you know why they're cheaper".
