me and my friend are looking for a new game to play as we are getting bored of WoW. We narrowed our choices down to champions online, everquest 2 and warhammer online. We were wondering which out of these has the following qualities:
1) has decent population
2) has decent pvp
3) has decent endgame
4) leveling doesnt feel like a grindfest
5) also if you know of any other games that meet these qualities please list them
Comments
you describe the perfect mmo which nobody makes
everquest 2 is a lil dated warhammer has like no population and champions will have alot more to it later in march.. i really enjoyed champions but it has lil to no endgame and warhammer was really fun but nobody is gonna group with you until t4 pvp.. there are alot other decent games out there like aion global agends ect.. but if you were a fan of wow i would suggest allods online f2p releasing on the 16th. Has the familiarity of wow but has decent world pvp and the gaming experience is incredible.. and its a free aaa title
well we were wondering how those games are that i mentioned cuz we dont want to play a game that has no population or endgame ya know
I've only played Champions and EQ2 out of the list....EQ I did the 30 day welcome back and got to lvl 30, and got to lvl 40 in Champions.
1) Champion's population seems to have declined massively since launch. EQ seems to have a fairly healthy pop.
2) Champions has arena type PvP, but most say it is unbalanced in favor of ranged powers. Didn't try the PvP in EQ.
3) Champions doesn't really have an endgame. I heard that EQ2's is ok.
4) Leveling in Champions was ok until the mid 20's and 30's when the missions are in short supply. EQ was fun and didn't seem like a grind, at least to lvl 30.
5) May want to try AoC. The game is much improved since launch and there is an unlimited trial (you just can't pass Tortage ~lvl 22) They just combined servers, so the population is healthy again. I think they just fixed city sieges in the last patch.
I think only EQ2 would fit your criteria, but in reality, even that game doesn't do the things you listed that well either.
I'd advise to wait for a new MMO to come out. I don't think you'll find enjoyment from these titles for longer than a week. When you've played WoW, you've played 95% of MMO's around.
Darkfall Online is a full loot pvp game that you guys might like. It's pretty hardcore but fun as hell. I started playing last week and I'm still loving every bit of it as a new player. I played wow as well, have two level 80's with raid gear. Darkfall is full loot which means when players die, anyone can loot their corpse. Bank your gold and items often. It's not really a big deal to die because there are no epics or bind on pickup or whatever. All items are crafted and whatnot and skill plays a big role in the pvp. I'm enjoying it and a lot of new people have been joining lately.
so true. was just looking for something else to play cuz getting a little bit burnt out on WoW
Yeah, that's what makes things so bad. Even though you change the game, it's often enough WoW with different style. You'll be playing "different game", but everything feels familiar- do quests for exp, action bars, talent trees...
I think you'd need a completely new game but the problem is, there isn't (m)any of those around. Waiting might help, but there aren't too many games like that on the horizon that offer everything. Like, if you have a game that offers new combat and progression, there's no PvP.. or if there's good PvP and population, there's a lack of endgame..

ya im just trying to find something to hold me over besides WoW til new star wars mmo comes out tho the game doesnt have to have all the qualities i mentioned. I am really looking for a decent population and endgame with some pvp on the side.
I'm going to agree with Oscar - Darkfall Online is the mmo to play...especially for pvp and skill based advancement...no levels or classes.
You want to be a caster and wear full plate? No problem. You want to add archery and melee? No problem. Learn which skills you want...no restrictions. The envirnoment was entirely hand rendered and is gorgeous and is seamless (no instances or zones) and HUGE: It can take hours to travel across the continent and 4 sub continents. The combat is FPS and is not auto...you swing your sword...you block..etc.
DFO is not a "gear-based game...even if you lose all your armor...you can still fight and win if your skills are higher and you know what you're doing.
I played Wow for 2 years and always felt it was lacking. There's no trial version for DFO, but take a chance...the game is so much fun.....you'll love it!
Here's a link for the DFO website that's gives a nice overview of the game:

Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
ill look at that site. anyone else have any more suggestions or comments on the games i listed?

give Warhammer a try, its free for tier I here is the link www.warhammeronline.com/trial/
I play it, even subbed. My first time two weeks ago. Really a blast!

I cannot vouch for the PvP or endgame as I am still leveling my first toon, but I was in a wow raiding guild and fell in love with Fallen Earth. It takes some getting used to, but it is a very nice departure from WoW. They have a 10-day free trial, you should check it out.
A witty saying proves nothing.

The only one of those 3 i could possibly recommend, is probably everquest2 but only because its not as bad as the other 2.... theres a free trial of warhammer at least, and also everquest 2.. not sure about champions and tbh, with all i've heard about champions ..i'm not sure i'd bother with one anyway, so give the free trials a go, though my guess is that you might want to give a few other games a look-over as your list is a bit limited.. and dare i say it.. dated..
Personally I would not go for Darkfall if I was you, if your a previous WOW player. Unless you are looking for something totally different. I dont think you would enjoy the full pvp full loot system.
I really wish people would stop saying WAR (warhammer online) is dead or dying, or has no population. That is the only reason it may go that way, because people keep saying it and new gamers dont go there. I am not a fan boi, but I am playing it atm. It has a unlimited tier 1 trial, lvl 1 - 11 for as long as you like on as many classes as you like, you cant go wrong with trying it.
It does have a population and a future. The pvp is good fun and so are the quests. Mythic now have a new team on board (so if the game was over, they would not have done this) to turn the game around as it did have a bad start.
For instant fun action at no cost to start, try war mate, you have fun even if you choose not to sub.
And if that does not float your boat, I personally think AOC does your list justice. If your computer can handle it that it. And with a exspansion on the way that looks really nice.
Hope you find your game.
Guildwars is worth a try, I know many people who plays Wow that plays in on the side because of the arenafights are way better. No monthly fees, best programming in a MMO and no grind. The PvE gets somewhat harder than you are used to after a while and the game is instanced but so is Wow today
"Personally I would not go for Darkfall if I was you, if your a previous WOW player. Unless you are looking for something totally different. I dont think you would enjoy the full pvp full loot system."
I think the key part of your quote here is: Unless you are looking for something totally different.
Darkfall is exactly that: Full open PVP with consequences. Yes..you can be looted, but...you can loot the other player as well.
You cannot be tracked or seen from a distance which creates some real tension and pvp battles consist of hundreds of players with siege vehicles tearing down keep walls.....50 cannon ships battling each other and firing on opposing clans/factions keeps. It's PVP like you've never seen in an MMO - and you can check out videos on youtube to see for yourself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPQwfKzV4-E
You can also own your own villa with player vendors to sell crafted or loot items and decorate them with beautiful statues...paintings ect.
I've played alot of MMO's and I have never played one as fun as DFO - and that includes Fallen Earth which is an excellent game and getting better, but once I started playing DFO - I canceled my FE account.
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
Darkfall is also not a game for the casual player, you really have to devote some serious time and effort to it... add in the fact that you do have to max out skills etc, to make a difference in game - an accusation levelled at Eve a lot, but is really more applicable to Darkfall, and you get a game thats probably even more new player unfriendly than Eve is, and thats before you even get onto the subject of how often the game is hacked!

Yes you do....but most any MMO worth playing takes time and effort. If the OP got tired of Wow (like I did) then Darkfall is a good place to call home if you're a serious pvp gamer. If you're a casual gamer and want the game handed to you...then I would find a different game.

I played Eve for 2 years and it's WAY more user unfriendly than DFO and also harder to get into - not to mention that you're stuck in a ship all the time with no ground combat or avatar.
and thats before you even get onto the subject of how often the game is hacked!
Yes...this is a current problem that should be alot less of a problem after the next patch...the devs are working hard on this and are also VERY strict regarding hacks of any kinds. If you're found hacking - you are PERMANENTLY banned from DFO..no second chances.
Also..a comment on DFO PVE - the mob UI is the best I've ever encountered - they move and react to what you do. If you're at range fighting and then come at them melee - they switch to melee to fight you. And...they seem to anticipate your every move which can make them every bit as challenging as fighting another player.

Not a game to be approached lightly, but neither to be dismissed... another contender in the future may well be Earthrise... maybe...
I would advise you all to get the 10 day Fallen Earth trial. If you guys are bored with WoW, it would be refreshing as it's on the other side of the MMO scene.

I've been waiting for Earthrise to come out since it was announed - I'm a sci-fi fan and although I like fantasy...I prefer Sci-fi and crafting - which is supposed to be very complex and fun.
Like you...I'll wait and see

If I'd be you guys I'd try WAR. You can play the first 10 levels for free as long as you want. It's to some degree similiar to WoW so it won't be all new and scary and you will feel at home, but at the same time offers enough different stuff to be entertaining.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
IMO, I'd try War as well. I'm loving the game so much now that I'm currently "driving" the Warhammer bandwagon. You gotta love "large group" PVP though.
Good Luck,
I would recommend League of Legends, Left 4 Dead 2, Fallen Earth, Team Fortress 2, or maybe Global Agenda (haven't played it yet) something other than a straight MMORPG for a few months, because if you are getting burnt out on WoW (from my personal experience) another wow-like MMORPG is not the right answer. You are very likely getting burned out on the genre. You and your friends would probably be better off trying something very different for a few months. By then you can either go back to WoW with a fresh head, or try a different MMORPG. That's just my opinion. That's what I do when I get burned out on WoW.
