Im playing this game few months now. And for me the game isnt even 7 if i look at all the criteria to vote for.
For me its around 6-6.5 and still i like the game, but there are too many flaws to give this game a ratting over 7 ... The highest rating which i gave was only for gameplay rest was meh ...
Yep, well, considering that the game has absolutely NO environmental sounds (yes besides mob and player action sounds the Darkfall world isn't making any sounds at all).... that would make it a 2 or 3 rating for sound .... which would make it difficult for the average to go higher than 6.5, even if you are giving everything else a 7 or an 8.
I really don't know what the devs were thinking.... already 1 year out and still no sounds in the world. The game is half finished, but still better than the rest.

They're giving a lot of love to sound/graphics in DF 2010 (with a lot more content ofc) but still much needed love to sound.
With the influx of new players over the past few months (including me), I think it would be to the benefit of the users of MMORPG.com to re-rate the game from its 6.0 rating. That rating turned me off from the game originally, but I watched the user rating creep up from 7.0 to 7.2, now it is at 7.5 which obviously is showing that most people are finding this game to be remarkably different from launch. I would ask MMORPG.com to maybe take a second look at the site's official rating, but I don't know if there is some policy against this.
It is better that they wait another year, it will probably get a better score then anyways.
They just can't write another review every year with all games, it is better to wait a while. The game is still patching in a lot of things and changing much of the content.
A MMO is always a process but making new reviews too often would mean that they would have to take that time from other stuff, like reporting news and so on. And to be honest, would you like if the made new reviews of all games every year? Almost every single MMO changes a lot with time.
As for the user rating, I think people know more what they are getting into now, so more people that shouldn't buy the game realized that. Also is the DF hate down a bit by now, there are other games to hate so people not playing it isn't lowering the score either.
If any one is making decisions on games based upon MMORPG ratings, they need to have a talk with a loved one.

Pretty much nails it I think. With dozens of threads for people to look though, why anyone would chose a game based on a year old review is beyond me.
Problem with reviewing a game like DF is that to get a decent review you have to stack the deck, as others have mentioned the person has to like FFA PVP, full looting games or the score's going to suffer no matter what.
Less harsh games like LoTRO can be played and appreciated by just about any reviewer except for one thats a fan of the above, so its easier to get good scores.
And if we look at DF from a holistic approach, I have to ask those that play, in the past year, has the Pve really improved that much? Because it need to have decent pve options to be rating scores around 8 and above for most reviewers.
How about crafting and animations, much improved? If not, more negatives for the reviewer to score the game.
Trouble is, they can make the PVP combat a 10 (which is the part I suspect most player are there for) and w/o the "rest of the package" the score is going to suffer unless all the reviewer cares about is the PVP aspects.
The reason EVE scores much better is that overall it is a much more rounded gaming experience, offering something for everyone, from carebears to killers.

All mmo's are ongoing development projects and should not be judged by their launch for infinity.
If you want to hire Machete to kill the bad guys, you better make damn sure the bad guy isnt you!
