Is MMORPG.com itself dead ???

Hi All,

So.......................

I look at a couple of forums........

MMO"RPG"  (Am an old Dice and paper player of RPG....) games "seems" to be the future of gaming.....

Not so sure here......

So I am wondering if www.mmorpg.com has taken the judas coin route here....

Let nothing bad be said about those who place advert here....

Now I place adverts in my trade press and you would be AMAZED about what goes on in printed press and I wonder if the same thing is happening here?

/discuss

EDIT - JEEZ - As I post this - There is a ad for Valkyre Sky under me positioning it as a "shoot 'em" up MMO ??? - which are you = A shoot 'em up or a MMO ?????

mmorpg.com doesn't exist because of its editorial content.

it exists because of the community.

    I would challenge that...

All companies exist by their incoming cashflow vs their expenses.

All I see is that when a new game is launched that for every person that posts a critical post to a game there is a very quick reponse saying hoe good t he game is.

And on every page I click there seems to be a host of ad's for the latest games......

Do the figures - 346 so called MMO's  -  MMORPG has 1.17M members

Thats only 3386 per game ???

This right here. And those ads are directed at the community. So long as we are here looking at ads and some people actually using them, not even close to dead. This is a very busy forum after all. Not sure why you would think any part of it is "dead".

You can "challenge" it  all you want.

    It's simple fact .

There are ads here because there is obviously a community.

    Those ads generate cash flow.

If nobody was here there would be no ads.

That leads back to the fact that this site has a community and therefore companies are willing to pay for ads here.

Therefore generating cash flow to run this site.

When I see posts that I think are unfair, usually about WoW, I post my side of the argument.

    Am I a shill?  No.

Whatever it is that you think is goin' on is considerably less than the bias that is regularly generated by users of MMORPG.com. But then again, who cares? go to another site if you want a new spin...

mmosite.com, onrpg.com, the list goes on and on. This is the interneX, after all...

Honestly, dead? No...in more than a bit of a slump? Yeppers...

I think they have lost a few key columnists/writers and made some bad editorial decisions lately which has been reflected in less forum attention/discussion and some old timers leaving/ghosting/posting a lot less.

I could be wrong, but I certainly feel like the quality of articles has gone downhill drastically since I joined...I mean really, "feature" articles that summarize forum threads??

    I hope it turns around...but we'll see.

lets be honest. the only thing thats not dead in the mmo world nowadays is WoW, and the all hype for SWTOR.

     Admittedly, MMORPG.com is pretty dead.

I see the same names every day and can almost always guess the view they're going to have on certain things.

I'll occasionally see a new face, but they don't really stay long.

The contest offerings are pretty sad too.

    Is MMORPG.com itself dead ???

That's a very general question and perhaps more a matter of perspective. MMORPG.com is active, it may have slower days, but for the most part its a nice central source for information and forum posting. Its much more active than Ten Ton Hammer, which is another major MMO gaming site.

There is a lot of area here on MMORPG.com so people are spread out. You also have to consider that there are a lot more lurkers than posters. Just going off of post really isn't the best way to gauge activity, at least as far as Visits to the site. The staff here is knowledgeable and for the most part voluntary so I would imagine they help the site out on their own time.

Over all its a great site, at least in my opinion. There is probably a lot more 'activity' posting wise on Official Game Forums.

I do not believe that MMORPG.com is so much "dead" as it is just stuck in an infinite loop of negativity (of which I am myself contributing too) and posts that contain an inappropriately high amount of periods.

This.  MMORPG is alive and doing fine.  No, its not all paid shills or trolls, its just people engaging in a bit of forum PVP for fun and entertainment.

No secret conspiracies, no hidden agendas, just all the fun a gaming site can provide.

But if you aren't having fun, why the hell are you here?

There is a lot of activity on this forum IMO, just about one of the busiest I know.

I post sometimes and just view thread most other times. I think many people read and dont post. However, that still counts as traffic to this site and can have MMORPG.COM charge more for the adds.

This site is far from dead

Dead as in, biased, cynical, and trolling. Yep, yep, and yepper. This site was great when I joined but has gone downhill more and more every passing day!

Well this is just the thing

Year or two ago , you could see 1000+ online.

As a 4+ years , very active member - i can say with outermost certainty , this site is down to 10% activity compared to its glory years....

Couple this with very gloom outlook for future of MMOs , or should i say what seems to be a long recession of MMOs

I can see this site dwindling even more...

    But will it die ?

    Probably not.

I've been around a while myself. Unlike certain AAA MMO's, I don't think this site's dead.

I got warnings not to insult people because I used the words "darkfall sucks"

Yeah things have changed around here.  I understand the need to make ad revenue to keep the community alive but give me a break.

Why do you prefer our competitors? I can't speak for the other aspects of our site, but as I do the news I'd be interested in any feedback you guys have on how I could improve the newsroom to be more appealing.

There's a coffee shop across the street from a Starbucks that has all the employees in bikinis. It actually worked out well for them.

I don't think you'd like to see us in bikinis. Trust me. :P

Seriously though, I am genuinely interested in the feedback. If you'd like to leave it here or contact me directly at mikeb@mmorpg.com I definitely welcome it!
