Not going to believe it unless you got some good sources to back that up. They've been very specific about never being specific. However, people love to misquote them a lot..
I am sorry for my laziness to look for source to quote...
However, it is a technological demo someone at CCP made just to test 'if'.
It is a technological demo showing off engine capabilities, nothing more.

I'd sure like to see some proof on that. If you watch the demo it's pretty obvious that it's the same engine with a different backdrop and flight controls. Just looks like a engine test demo to me.

They have promised walking avatars for more than a year now and it was told first it should have been in december 08 and then it got pushed more and more, never gonna think it will happen though that you will be able to walk around on your space station, just dont see it happening.
From what I understand the planetary interaction will be more like a CIV game- aka civilization. There is a nice article over at Massively.
I wanna see it happen before i believe that though and i did read the article, good reading but i still dont think it will happen in the near future and ive been playing eve now since CB back in 2002 on and off, will happen one day, so yea still waiting.

Never said anything about a time frame in my last post.
That's a nice article thanks for posting it ( I did read it all LOL ). It really marks a turning point in the game. Just read all the ships they talk about that "will" be coming out.
For so long in EVE it really was about the Raven, the Megathron, and a few support ships. Throw in allot of drones and a little EWAR and you could lose weeks in the vastness of the EVE universe. People would spend day after day constructing elaborate methods to secure and move goods between empire and Null sec, with a level of persistence and ingenuity that can only be described as old school. It's easy to forget that back then it took minutes just to jump through a single gate for a hauler or battleship.
I was suprised to see this too, "Planetary Flight will not be in Kali, the effort required to make that the way we want to do it and how EVE deserves it makes all of Red Moon Rising pale in comparison. We might have to notch it down a bit in the end but it's currently post-Kali and requires a full expansion in itself."
Clearly, carrots on sticks and red herrings are more apart of the EVE history than I realized. I wonder what this says about the current batch of shiny stuff?
It says that their ambition outruns their resources.
can't be true, they have over 200.000+ subscribers that pay for the game one way or another, i mean sometimes when i log in there is more than 50.000 online alone and thats just the different peak hours ( european / american ) , they have a rough estimate of 2-3 million euro income pr month.
and yes i know there is salaries to be paid out, maintance and what not, but they still have a substansiel profit pr month.

Just for you, the full quote:

Which is pretty clear on: Nope, not coming any time soon. So no, they didn't specifically promise atomospheric flight. They said they wanted it to happen. Oveur even states that the project is too big for them.

Actually its closer to 300K paid subs per month I think, so lets do some math.
300,000 x $15.00 per month = 4.5 M x 12 = 54M per year.
Sounds like a lot of money eh? Its a rounding error in the wrold of big business actually, and when you consider they pay salaries for 3 development teams (Iceland, Atlanta and one in Asia (Singapore or Hong Kong?) plus maintenance of the server farm and you'll find the money soon drains away.
(And yes, someone is probably pocketing a few milliion or so every year as a reward for creating the game)
They're working on Dust514, Ambulation (we hope), WOD, regular EVE expansions and who knows what else.
No, I'd say their plates are pretty full right now, and atmospheric flight just does fit in well with the EVE universe. Once you go down that road, you need a full fledged planet environment to explore and interact with, which while they are working more towards that direction, would really require an all new game to be built.

Have never played a second of Eve, to date. Did they ever implement a feature that allowed you to leave the ship as a player/character, vs essentially piloting your ship 100% of hte time?
I don't think this will be implemented in the near future. The current planets are simple models and to be able to go into atmosphere you need to generate a whole world. I don't know of any SINGLE-player games that have done this successfully yet so generating this on a GALACTIC EVE's scale doesn't seem realistic atm.
- next update goes into planet management
- walking in stations should be coming up too
- some time later FPS (Battlefiled/Halo-esque) addition to 'help' planet management coming called DUST 514
Edit: the DUST 514 might come close to atmospheric flights but I don't believe there will be a seamless space-to-ground transition like on the vid. Most logical solution would be for each planet to be a separate instance.
I would imagine that Dust 514 has superceded atmospheric flight in EVE. If we see it, we'll see in Dust, not in EVE. It would be a much more logical expansion for Dust than for EVE.

I hope so, but somehow I doubt they will, they have alot on there plate already.
Who knows though? Stranger things have happened.
Never say never!
They showed a video of it in 2006, so i think so.

hehhe- sorry I am just tearing up! I so wish they would explore other areas like this old presentation.
Maybe they are using that as a part of the next expansion?

I think the honest answer is probably yes!... the more difficult question would be when.
At the rate CCP are going with Eve I dont think there will be anything you can do in eve, in the future!...
Actaully atmospheric flight will exist in Dust 514!.. so theoretically you could say it is coming very soon.
It seems like I will have find a quote where they reply to hype about atmospheric flight being a technological demo only...
