WoW will keep doing what they have been doing the last five years.... adding content little by little. SOme people will quit and others will start.. And the expansion pack will bring back others.. Things will change slowly but nothing drastically...

WoW will keep to be WoW in 2010, as it will be in the years ahead.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Same old, same old. Would like some basic guild housing, and a new hero class wouldn't go amiss. I'm hoping Bard  or Minstrel as a healer / DPS to match the DK's tank / DPS if it ever happens.

  • djazzydjazzy Member Posts: 3,578

There won't be any housing or guild housing in WoW anytime soon. Also you'd have to wait for expansion after Cataclysm for a possible new class. As far as what to expect in 2010 for WoW? I expect Cataclysm to come out in August or September.

What do I expect from WoW in 2010? Hmmm.. *Daydream sequence*

    • The MMORPG.com community finally agrees to disagree and everything WoW related will forever be positive.

    • The WoW forums become a great place for everyone to communicate and the developers provide useful and up to date information on all things WoW.

    • Expansions are freely given to players as part of their subscription plan.

    • Pandaren are announced as a race for both Alliance and Horde; making them the only race to ever be usable by both factions

    • Cross-Faction communication becomes possible.

    • Blizzard redoes all of the BC and WotLK content to be up to par with Cataclysm content.

    • World of Warcraft finally lets you customize all features of your character; including, but not limited to: Weight, size, makeup, tattoos, hair color, and clothing colors.

    • Dyes are introduced and Blacksmiths, Tailors and Leatherworkers can customize the look of their armor. Make it more sexy by removing bits of armor, or more practical and foreboding by adding spikes or armor plating.

    • Naval Combat

    • Air Combat

    • Hogger 40-man raid.

    Hogger 40-man raid.

Ironically enough, they are making a level 85 version of the Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep.

I wish they would bring back (or create) 1-2 more complex dungeons (Sunken Temple anyone?)

    BRD?

Even though i hated them, it was a love-hate relationship.

    Some random thoughts:

    1. The expansion will be a smashing hit
    2. They will keep expanding the cash shop with more noncombat pets
    3. They will add  a paid class change option.
    4. The new changed Azeroth will not feature any elite mobs.
    5. They will add even more heirloom items to increase leveling speed.
    6. Raiding will remain the main focus of the game and the only viable activity at endgame.
    7. They will add even more useless daily quests so they can say nonraiders also have things to do.
    8. The increased leveling speed will create more replayability because you outlevel the content so fast you can do it multiple times without as much content overlap.
    9. A gear score feature will be added to the LFG functionality to better match equally geared players.
    10. A raid LFG system will be added with the same ease of use.
    11. Raids will be made easier again so undergeared pugs can faceroll through them with ease.
    12. The WoW forum and trade channel will remain places to stay far away from.
    13. Horde guilds that exclude goblins will be formed just as it happened with the introduction of blood elves.
    14. For the first few months after the expansion 70% of the gamers will be playing either a goblin or a worgen.
    15. At the release of the expansion I predict the tauren paladin to be made the most within the first minutes the servers come online just so they can call it Holycow before someone else does.
    16. More "cosmetic" features will be added to the cash shop.
    17. The authenticator becomes mendatory and will be sold with the expansion.
    18. During the year Blizzard will hint about housing again, but will most likely never implement it.
    19. WoW will remain public enemy number one on mmorpg.com.
    20. The word wow-kid will be used 12.527.542 times on mmorpg.com alone.
    21. ....

And anyone who tries to analyse it, isn't it Coffee ? Even he got a sticker on his mouth.

Here is some insight of one of the developpers.

I think that''s 3 pages of ...-at least -  useful information:

    http://gameinformer.com/games/world_of_warcraft_wrath_of_the_lich_king/b/pc/archive/2010/02/17/afterwords-world-of-warcraft-wrath-of-the-lich-king.aspx

    What springs out:

"We also have plans to continue making PvP more accessible also. It’s interesting that in Burning Crusade our raiding game was extremely hardcore, and in a lot of ways the PvP was a lot more casual player-friendly. Through the course of Lich King, those have flipped around. A lot of that is just because of the development in our PvE game. We had really aggressive development in solving the problems that we saw in PvE in Burning Crusade as far as making PvE more accessible and easier to get into and more rewarding. Almost simultaneously, PvP either stayed the same or got more hardcore in some ways.

Those flipped roles in Lich King, and we really want to balance them out better than we have before in Cataclysm. We want to continue to advance on that front with PvE, and with PvP we really want to make sure that it feels better-balanced against PvP as far as how much effort it takes to organize stuff and how much reward you get for your time and effort spent."

So any active player of the game noticed this.

If you are asking of PvP is "easier" to get into not really. The only thing they have really done is add PvP gear thats 1 or two seasons behind (cant remember off the top of my head) through PvE badge vendors. Sure it gives you PvP gear but not as good as arena players. Battlegrounds are still a poor way to get gear as well. There "Fix" to this is rated BG's going in with cataclysm. No one really knows how it works yet except that you can form teams (yes they must be premade at least thats what it says now) and the BG's will be random with a restricted amount of times per day you can do them for points/ranking.

So no, PvP is still left to thoes wanting to do arena and thats about it. Also forgot to mention that as far as "regular" BG playing goes thoes in the best raid gear are generally owning them and the BEST weapons to have are PvE raid weapons not even the PvP "equivelents".

  • djazzydjazzy Member Posts: 3,578

Almost seems like they want to sweep pvp under the rug and make it go away. Or at least they want everyone to pve whether they like it or not.

He was talking about Cataclysm, btw:

Since the latest patch (3 weeks ago) : you can(!)  earn 25 Arena badges from winning the daily BG quest.

That sure is already a nice motivation to win that daily BG PvP quest these days.

You can buy a full PvP set with a combo of honor and arena points ... with no rating required: the gear level is 264 on par with the latest raid 25 on normal difficulty (starting at 8000 honor and 600 arena points for a legs item).

There is one higher set - but rated beginning at 1400 - on par with 25 men heroic. With the difficulty in 25 men heroic these days... good luck in obtaining them.

That all seems pretty logical to me.

My only gripe is that they should include some lesser PvP weapons with a combo of arena points (you can get in BG's) and honor. As this combo of arena-honor in BG's is new, perhaps we will see it.

But as seen above: you now don't need to do arena to get arena points and have ... the latest PvP gear on par with Raids. You simply need to win the daily BG. If you loose ... tough luck.

    >>>

The introduction of the 25 arena points for a daily win in the BG quest was a very nice motivation to have a meaningful win in the BG's.

I guess the Cataclysm expansion will add to this the rated scores competition and guild leveling. Together with the reintroduction of the old PvP titles.

Some will play forever in PvP mode when this will be introduced.

Our small guild quit this past month to go find enjoyment elsewhere.. Our guild doesn't do the raid thing.. and what limited time we did have for a raid here and there, just wasn't fun in organizing..  Our small guild is made up of casuals, that do not devote hours a day to play the game.. It looks like a smart decision too, as WoW is adding more 10/25 content, and nothing for the casual dungeon hopper.. It's only a mater of time before the rest of the casual gamers are at the end with nothing to do, but raid, then mass exodus to wherever..

And you will be replaced with thousands of others in no time.

I don't believe the "small guild talk" anyway. "Small guilds" just fade away on an individual basis without leaving a game en masse. They are individuals who jump to other guilds without even looking back to so called comrades.

Exactly the sample of players that WOW caters for. And they have a way - a long way - ahead of them - to even reach the final Raid status.

In 2010 WOW will be getting 12 to 13 million players with ease: Why ? China official and the new Azeroth with absolutely nothing decent to play as a valid alternative.

Even the non mmo games are questionable in long term playing value compared to a simple BG from WOW.

I thought for 2 months COD was any decent, but talking about stale gameplay.

It isn't normal that one game just dominates the complete PC market for almost 6 years now.

It is clear the competition is nowhere capable to even bring one decent PvP alternative than playing AB for 10 million times (and still have fun with a drive to win). Not even talking about the massively played PVE content that the new LFG mechanic opened up since December 09..

The cross server LFG mechanism is now being implanted on their PvP system with BG's ranked competitions...

Imagine all this with all that new content run by millions to see the changes.

I wish the competition all the luck in the world in 2010: they will need it.

    1. More item mall things

    2. Moderate influx of new/returning trying out the new races/class combos

    3. Returning players burning through the next 5 levels of content

    4. Return to grinding new reputation and items

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

And you will be replaced with thousands of others in no time.  Really?  Are you aware that WoW's subscription number have not change over the past 6 months plus?  That is official about Bliz themselves..

I don't believe the "small guild talk" anyway. "Small guilds" just fade away on an individual basis without leaving a game en masse. They are individuals who jump to other guilds without even looking back to so called comrades. Again you're wrong.. Our lil small guild was friends and family consisting of 8 players.. We all press cancel this month :) You know what they say about people that make assumptions?  lol

China's numbers were already calculated in the 11.5 million from months ago.. You need to read more on the whole China deal before making yet another "ASSUMPTION".. :)

Even the non mmo games are questionable in long term playing value compared to a simple BG from WOW.

I thought for 2 months COD was any decent, but talking about stale gameplay.

It isn't normal that one game just dominates the complete PC market for almost 6 years now.  Access and Marketing means everything.. GM still holds the largest market share world wide, but we all know they are far from being the best company in the world..

It is clear the competition is nowhere capable to even bring one decent PvP alternative than playing AB for 10 million times (and still have fun with a drive to win). Not even talking about the massively played PVE content that the new LFG mechanic opened up since December 09..

The PvP system is broken and sucks in WoW anymore.. One has to be wearing blinders to not see it.. The new PvP system is an attempt to fix what they broke with WoTLK..  I do expect to see WoW's subscription numbers to drop in 2010.. slightly, but they will drop.. The market is saturated and I believe more and more are at the end of their rope with the game..  Which is all OK I guess.. We all know that Blizz has NO intention on feeding WoW once the new MMO of theirs is introduced.. Unless the new game falls on it's face.. lol

I expect the WoW market domination to continue.  If for no other reason, no games are in position to even make a scratch in their playerbase.

On lap 499 out of 500, and everyone else is at least 100 laps behind...  there's really not much to worry about except blowing a tire or running out of fuel.

When using words like "sucks" and "wearing blinders" you don't gain much credibilty in these pages without further motivation (certainly not from the moderators when you read their policy about publishing above).

The China situation was only regulated officially on Feb 12th 2010. So only very recently the WOW situation became "official again"

    Reference: http://www.quamnet.com/newscontent.action?articleId=1465960

The subscriptions didn't rise for two logical reasons: Chinese players could no longer play between June and September 2009 and their situation was not regulated. WotlK was never even launched in China, so when that happens, only then it is back on rails for good.

The second reason is that 2009 was not an expansion year. Maintaining the same revenu from the 1st Q to the 4th Q in 2009 was no easy feat, as there were only content patches and not a new expansion to promote. But the revenu proved to be the same.

These 2 factors: China officially accepted again and a new expansion Cata (which concentrates on new players and new beginning content with a complete make over of classes and PvP) is a different situation for 2010.

As the new beginning content will even be accessible for a new player paying just for the basic box, one can see the pull in of a new mass of players who didn't even touch WOW upon now.

You should read the interview of Mark Morhaime in the WC magazine last month: they think 12 million is a rather small number with the present day internet.

Now take all this and add to the fact ALL WOW killers of the last 2 years are not even a competition anymore and the complete lack of present day challengers and you can only conclude 2010 means a further domination of WOW products.

You may dislike that. No problem. You may let your personal heart speak, but the reality in MMORPG land for 2010 is just seeing more WOW with less - much less - hyped competition (be that game wise or political bans).

    Make your own conclusions.

Proberbly more of the same . Cataclysm will appeal to those that like the game now and it'll be hated by those that don't. The one thing I'm pretty sure of is that its unlikly there will be a challenger this year for title of potential WoWkiller . Meanwhile i shall play other games because WoW quite frankly bores me and offers no real challenge anymore. Too easy and a horrible community ( generally speaking there are some challenges left in it but too few and some nice people but too few ) .
