Yeah I got ganked today for the first time. I lost one of my two mounts (I'm gonna keep a spare because I will probably be losing them quite often at the beginning here). I was kind of careless though and let my health drop really low fighting goblins and I was far from my bind point. Not sure if I would've gotten away anyway since it was just my first pvp encounter. I fully expect to die to players quite often for a few weeks at least lol. On the flipside, the captain of New helped me out with a few sets of gear and weapons, so I didn't lose much. There definitely is a cool mix of super helpful and cutthroat in the community in this game.
Today I lost 2 horses, a full set of gear, and another set of armor that I had just looted from a red.
That's about average for my day, really. Some days, when the reds storm Cairn, i'll lose much more....but usually gain a bit along the way too.
After a while, you have so many ready bags in your bank it doesn't bother you any more. At first it can kinda suck, because you don't have much though.
Just remember...gear is always replaceable....it's your SKILLS that are your real posessions in Darkfall, and no one can loot those.
I don't really care for it, and its not really a game play issue with me per say, I just feel too confined with the camera setup (1st person or very close 3rd person), I dunno just makes me feel uncomfortable. Its seems like a fine game, and the world is quite nicely done, I just cannot get past the weird camera (weird to me)
I felt this way for a couple days, but i got used to it. It actually makes you watch what youre doing, turn around to see if anyone is around after killing some mobs. Even the sounds can tip you off to someone nearby. Different experience, which is exactly what i was looking for. I have played enough of the standard mmo.

I also dont really care for how clunky it is to even loot a body, maybe i am just no doing it right, but to have to press "f" (or "r", or whatever the use button is), then my right mouse button so i can open my bag, then loot it, close all that junk, then get back to 3rd person view. Maybe there is a mega shortcut for all that, and if there is i think i might enjoy it better :P

use the thumbtack icon on your bag, and leave it open in the corner at all times. Press F to loot, and just quickly drag items into the bag.
They system is a chore, but it's there for a reason. Practice is the only thing that makes it fater and easier...eventually you just get used to it.
Simply toggling your UI off after looting auto-closes all windows that aren't set to sticky mode via the thumbtack. So it's really just "press F, loot, toggle UI".

1st person view and close third person is so you can't see what's to your sides or behind you unless you look. It is different, but it really plays into the realism of the combat. As for it taking time to loot, that's so you can't loot everything if you're under fire.
I'll share some newbie tips to help make life easy:
1) macro your hotbars. I swap between three hotbars right now full of skills and weapons to gain skill points relatively quickly.
2) Always keep your backpack open ready to loot, mine sits between my chat box and my system log box.
3) Be sure to back track to the bank a lot to stash your hard earned newbie loot . I got my bag full of armor and weapons for when I get ganks and seperat bags for tradeskill stuff and reagents. That and I always keep the gold there. When I go out to kill and skill up I dont have a single gold on me, the only time I bring it out is to buy more skills or I'm putting freshly acquired gold in the bank.
4) It's tempting to sell all the extra weapons and armor at first to gain quick gold...don't, put it in your bank to create a nice foundation of replacement gear for when you die (and you will die numerously in the beginning).
5) Attack creatures from behind cover if you can. This minimizes getting bunched up on and you take less ranged damage.
6) Remember, it's tough in the beginning but this game rewards those who stick it out and work hard.
"If at first you don't succeed, excessive force is probably the answer."
Still really having fun with this game and am totally hooked! Unfortunately I'm on a budget so there will be a gap of a couple days at the end of my trail before I can buy the game- I am sure I will be twitching for a Darkfall fix.
Every day there is some new story that isn't scripted like other games. Even if it's getting the short end of the stick by some jerk, it's still drama and excitement that isn't found in any other MMORPG. This is really a totally new MMORPG experience for me, just when I was getting really burned out on the same old wow-type games.
I was looking forward to ffxiv coming out but right now I really doubt I will be playing it over Darkfall.
It's really too bad it had such a rough launch. If it was released today in the state it's in I imagine it would be critically acclaimed.
Also....something that more experienced players do:
Make "ready bags".
Get a bunch of bags, and fill each one with everything you need to go. A set of armor, weapons, food, regs, potions, and label them with your name, and clan.
This way when you die, you just grab a bag and go.
If you die in a clan battle, it makes it SO much easier to return your gear to you once the battle is over if people know who's it is. I can't count the amount of time some alliance member has said "Hey dude! I found your stuff!! Meet me at the bank!"
I'm still new but, i'm already getting tired of people from the trial bashing the game after less than a days worth of play, they knew coming into the game that it catered to a niche audience yet they feel the need to complain on the forums constantly because it doesn't cater to their themepark mmo standards. I'm loving the game still, it just takes some hard work and perseverance to get where you want to go...and I dont see this as a problem as long as I feel the game is worth the effort. I hope the feeling continues but thusfar I can't see it ending anytime soon. I can only hope more people who know what the game entails by doing their research, come into the game and start enjoying thmselves as I have and slowly build up the population...whilst weeding out all the cry babies. I hope you keep enjoying yourself OP
It's great to see new players in the trial enjoying the game and surprised by how good it is. The bashing is par for the course. It occurs in every game. Most readers can glean genuine and credible posts from those that are not. This trial is a great move as it gives any one with a buck, a chance to see for themselves, and like many are finding, DFO rocks; it's just not designed for the mentality of 12 million people.

This game is pure crack for me, trial will soon run out and I don't exactly have the time (regularly raiding in WoW - currently ICC hard modes) nor the money to continue playing. I am a screwed junkie...
I almost forgot what it feels like playing an MMO, and then I started DFO. Such a huge and varied world, and the best part is that you can actually be a solo player and still enjoy it.

Tell me about it. I had to put EVE on hold so I could play this game, and that was not an easy decision. Glad you're enjoying the trial, and hope to see you back sometime down the road.

very good advice!
On sunday nights I spend a good amount of time making new ready bags. I have two 'tiers' basically one for hard combat and one for medium-light. I try to keep at least 6 total bags at all times.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
My trial-week is now over and im completly in love with it. I have always told my self to never listen to anyone elses Rewiews of a game, instead i would try it myself and decide.
With Darkfall, i think i got affected by all the whine that was going on against it from the start and thus maked me miss 1Year of it.
I clocked in on 35 Hours playtime in this trial-period, That just doesent happens when i play usually. Not even when i play a game for the first time.

Same. I have bags with bone and lower quality gear for PVE farming, and then bags with plate and better weapons for PVP.
And of course I have my bag for my clan's PVP tourneys with my very best gear in it.
After following the game off and on since the release im finally going to give it a shot. Dont get me wrong I still like WoW quite a bit, but im itching for some meaningful pvp action that I havent seen since shadowbane. Hopefully darkfall can scratch that itch, but without the horrible bugs and controls.
Woot I am subbed up. I was going to be seriously bummed if I couldn't play Darkfall for a week until I could scrounge up the cash. Luckily I was able to. This game is like crack.

This. There's nothing better out there, IMO.
Best game I've played since old pre-NGE SWG.
Hello Kitty isn't that good, there are better games.
