Really? And which utterly stupid thing did I do?
I haven't been ripped off (yet) but I know a number of people who have. You don't necessarily have to do anything stupid to be ripped off. Just making friends with someone and having them in your corp can easily result in finding your BP hangar empty.
Just muling stuff from one toon to the other can leave you broke, and there's not one thing you can do about it.
Come back when you read the post. Ppl are mean to me because they know it all, kind of like you. :-P
As far as WoW, so far it seems like a picnic, but the one thing I like about it is that it respects my time. I don't have to spend 3 hours making/copying/arranging bookmarks, nor do I have to spend 45 minutes hauling all my stuff to the new HQ.
And the constant waiting for jumps arrgh. I refuse to believe that making a zone-free game is that hard. If my processor is idling at %50, why can't the Eve client use the other %50 to preload all the crap in the surrounding sectors?
Asheron's Call did it, and the other %99 of that game was a disaster, but hey at least it was a zone-free piece of crap.
I haven't played EQ2 but from the reviews, they haven't learned ANYTHING from EQ1.
Still need a group to play. Still cant solo. Still have "zoning...please wait..."
And don't get me started on Caveat Emptor.
Caveat Emptor works in RL, because if the butcher rips me off, I can go back to his store and beat his face. If the car dealer sells me a lemon, I can take his a$$ to court and make him spend time and money defending himself.
Caveat Emptor in Eve? Zero risk. No consequences.
Where's the risk/reward scenario for being a scammer in Eve? Its all reward and no risk.
That's what I mean by Eve being a scammer's paradise, there's no risk to it.
In fact the only people who actually HAVE risk are the normal ordinary players.
Aight slim? Now don't think too hard.

Very good point mate, It's meta-gaming at its worst I'm afraid.

There is no real accountability or risk scamming due to poorly implemented game design, The Devs and GM's simply do not have enough resources to address what is very clearly an abuse of game mechanics and violation of the EULA and have chosen just to ignore the issue.

I have never been scammed myself but I do know of many who have been, sadly most have left the game a short time after.

While it is easy to point the finger of blame at the individual who was scammed its also far to easy for someone who knows the game to simply make one click of the mouse or two too fast and lose everything in his wallet and this could ammount to several months of gameplay and hard work.

Scammers are meta-gaming lame wankers who ruin games (yes games die because of it) and blame the victim, CCP really needs to address this before the scammers ruin the fun of EVE for even more people.

I played eve since beta phase 3, up until a week ago. I cancelled my account because I'm starting my final year of college and well.. I don't have the time required to play Eve.. (damn you edumacation place!)

Anyway, in my long time of playing, I've only lost 5 ships (on my main) to players. 1 to a ganksquad, which was promptly destroyed by a corporation that declaired war on them. I've never, ever been scammed in any way shape or form. I did have my corp mineral hangar robbed though. But that was my fault for accidently giving someone "take" rights to the mineral hangar, when I ment to give them "take" rights to the ammo hangar. I was lucky my corpmates enjoyed the way I ran things, otherwise I would have been taken over lol.

On my ALT, I've lost probably 400+ ships. None from gankers. I lost all of them in PVP (duh). Of course, that's to be expected when you charge into the middle of a large fleet battle in Indy's blasting smartbombs.. image

As for gate camping.. yeah.. that's kinda the choke point of space. It's like.. this is space..ya know? There are pirates, murderers, and rival corporations. If you just fly around with out a care in the world, and don't have the proper counter measures, and defensive capabilities.. then yes.. you will more thank likely, eventually, get blown up. It happens. However, there are steps you can take to reduce the probability of being destroyed. I wont tell you what they are. That's your job to find out. image

I've bashed through blockades, destroyed my attackers, or joined a patrol to rid a system of pirates many, many times. If there are pirates in a system, it's up to the PLAYERS to form a patrol and rid the system of that threat. If there are gate campers, it's up the PLAYERS to destroy them.

Some of the best fun I've had in Eve was joining up with people from various corps and going on patrol runs, or helping out with an escort. The CEO of these corps always remember your name, and are usually quick to help those that help them. It's called "connections". I made connections with the corp that buys the vast majority of my ships and weapons by helping one of their convoys make it through a blockade.

Anyway, this got long.. so in short. Eve isnt for everyone. You have to THINK, and use STRATEGY. It requires a lot of time and effort to get anywhere in the game. It's geared to the LONG TERM. You will get blown up. Make friends, don't fly around unprepared for battle, and DO NOT GO INTO 0.0 SPACE ALONE. And if you do, then BE AWARE OF THE ALLIANCE SYSTEMS.  image Oh.. and ALWAYS always always CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY. I don't understand how people can be scammed. Really... Right-click -> inspect. Simple.

    I'm an EVE Fanatic image

I can say that although EVE has a big PVP system, it is in NO WAY, entirely pvp! Players can make their way amassing huge wealth mining ores, building their own ships, or working for corporations to earn rewards, or you can hunt NPC pirate corporations, the list is endless.

I'v been playing a while now, and to be honest, the only way to scam people involves the scammed person being UNBELEIVABLY ignorant... there are no 'secret codes' or anything else that would ruin an MMO if discovered. Ways people get scammed include them jumping onto the escrow market and buying things without even looking at what they are (People post an item on escrow and put an item description, although scammers wrongly describe the item. To get past this all you need to do is actually look at the item being sold rather than buying things from the description.), or another one is people on market selling items for a bigger price and trying to disguise it (an item worth 41,111 credits being sold at 411,111.11 as an example). Or they send emails saying they are game admins needing your password and username... This is in EVERY MMO just about... if you fall for that you probably deserve to lose your account to be honest, with all the news items and admin posts saying they never need your username and password.

Seriously, give the game a shot, just keep an eye out, and remember - You can never be scammed unless you're being ignorant.

I have to agree 100% with fimmy. I've been playing for a while now and haven't been scammed once. I have seen shuttles worth 10k ISK described as "+3 memory implant" being sold for 100million ISK. It took one click to see this was a scam. The rest are just silly things that people allow to happen. Live and learn. ::::02::

Kind of true, but you can loose isk with no fault of your own.

Set the amount that someone needs to pay for emailing you too 1 million/100k or so (of course you have spammed lots of emails to newbies regarding something so they might mail you back).

Do playermade missions where the mission-maker waits in low sec space for you to come, kill you & keep the deposit for items (always crappy items).
(But player courier missions are bugged now so they just take money & cant be finished, 2 weeks now according to ingame players)

This is not mentioned anywhere except ingame if you ask for it (no pun intended).

Its still your fault because theres a pop up window telling you how much it will cost to send the mail.

Mail, as stated in the previous post, pops up a window telling you how much you have to pay. It's your fault if you don't read it.

The player missions (cargo hauls) are the players fault too. It's easy to scout the mission path by using the map, looking at pod kills, ship kills and such, also it shows you the security levels you will be travelling through. If you don't take the time to click through a few things on the map, it's your fault again.

So, again, "You can never be scammed unless you're being ignorant." ::::02::

My Wife and I have been playing eve for over a year and a half and it's awsome, I haven't been scammed in over a year. Probaly due to the fact that I learned what to do and what not to do. If ur a noob.. ur a noob and that's that. Take precautions.. be wary of who you trust. Life is a crap shoot and so is trusting someone in eve if you don't know em. I have made friends in eve I wouldn't ever give up.. Overall EVE ONLINE is a superb game that requires you to use a bit of common sence and street smarts. If you get Scammed in EVE ur prob one of those PPL whoul would get scammed in Real Life as well.

I understand how people can get frustrated. Yes there are some stupid problems that seem to fall thru the cracks.

I think in general most people who dont like this game are people who prefer "avatar" style MMO's. For the same reason I dislike those games and they like, its just amatter of preferance.

EVE is different MMO 1 its a sci-fi and 2 its not like any other out there. I think its style will be copied. Power gaming-level tread milling games are a thing of the past. Another thing that I think confuses people is there are NO classes in EVE. No classes means no wrong choices...its also means YOU (theplayer) have to pick your path. For many people thats too much to ask.

All I can say if you choose to try/play this game join a corp (a player run corp). After you create your first character and you play around for a bit. Go to the EVE forums goto the recuitment forum and post your play style. " Hi I'm new to EVE I'm looking for a corp. I want to roleplay an ex-Minmatar slave who wishes to get revenge on the evil Amarr Empire." Or "Hi, I'm new to EVE. I want to be a pirate, making people pay me not to be killed. I want to be the most feared person in the galaxie" Trust me with in a few hours you'll have offers from several corps to join.

Just dont try to solo this game from the start. It is boring, it is hard to learn. And its massive in terms of game-play and size and complexity. I remember being a noob..it wasnt easy. You can solo after 6 months...but trust me you wont want to :) JOIN A CORP. Even the most evil pirate corps will help a noob out.....unless your warp core is scrambled. And even then they have been known to send isk if you convo them and explain that your new to the game.

"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."

Currently im not playing EvE.I just dont have the time to dedicate to it.IMHO you need to have a longterm vision with it.

Im not talking 4 months here either.Try a year or more.

Anyway its a great game.It pushes the whole genre forward and beyond the limits of anything on the market now.

Ill say one thing to everything you posted.

    Here it is:

What one man can do another man can do.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

    Just play the damn game:)

I believe it goes back to the few months after EVE launched, but it is a good read nonetheless.
