You also left out the part where it gives you additional auction house slots and access to multiple auction houses simultaneously, allowing you to increase your game profits. Irregardless of how many people bought extra mules, it still gave you an advantage that you paid for with a monthly transaction fee, not one you earned through play time or any other in-game achievement. There's zero difference between that and paying for those same advantages with a cash shop transaction.
GOD, he wasn't even talking about the advantages , he was just giving out the info. And saying there's zero difference is just wrong, don't get me started on this, just re-read the whole thread since you probably forgotten 90% of it repeating the same things over and over.
My post wasn't directed at him I was just using it for emphasis. As you can see by his follow up post, he did use it to buy an advantage, just as everyone else did, which is perfectly fine.

To comment on Sixpax, yes I also used my mules to sell stuff on the AH to sell things faster. Later like everyone else I started to bazaar my goods in Rolenberry Fields. In a way it is advantage do to making gil faster, but not a advantage that it impacts someone else's gameplay. Well unless you are undercutting items to sell faster and quicker profit but thats just how a economy goes, look at real life.
Thanks for the followup info, I did the same as did many, many others.
Isn't it true that in other MMO's you get a bunch of character slots to make extra ones? How is that any different from XI, besides that fact that you have to pay for extra ones?
The fact that you do have to pay is exactly the point though. In FFXI you could open your wallet and buy an advantage over someone will less characters than you paid for. Would it be any different if SE introduced a cash shop in FFXI that allowed you to have a 2nd mog house, mailbox, and increased auction house slots? Nope... well aside from the fact that some would go ballistic and slam SE for doing such a thing. The nerd rage would be legendary. Yet those same people think it's perfectly fine to buy mules.

you also don't realize that FFXI was CHEAPER then every other MMO. they only charged 12.95 per month where as others chared 15$, so you could pay 1$ extra, have the mule and still not pay as much as all of the other major MMOs. Also that fact that not everyone needed the mules, becuase they where more casual or did not hang onto as much as others, they could experience everything in the game (which includes every nations story (which a lot of games make you re-roll to do) without having to re-roll just to try another class.

To add a different perspective, it's like Netflix.
You can get as many DVD's per month that you can watch and send back within the month. You can add Blu-ray for an additional monthly charge.
I have the 2 movies per mailout deal, it hink it's $14.99 per month. I also have the bluray deal which I believe comes to 17.99 per month. I want that Bluray deal and that extra charge is way worth it to me.
To be honest though, only having that one character in FFXI is LAME!
did you even read my post? you can have 2 characters and still pay less then all the other MMOs, so basically unless you need more then 3 characters (which is unessicary) then your actually spending less. Its like having the choice to save or pay the normal price and have 3 character slots. If its "LAME" then create another 2 characters and you'l pay JUST as much as every other game. Every game has a limit on how many characters you can make, but to play more then 1 class you need to have those extra slots, where as FFXI you were attached to that 1 character and can do everything on it.
I guess you missed my point. I'm on your side here bud, no reason to get all flustered. Besides, back then most mmorpgs were 12.95 per month... I'm sure FFXIV will be 14.95 per month as a starting price.
Game services (extra slots, transfers etc) to me are fine. They don't effect play.
DLC areas etc to be learned and beaten is also fine (as long as the original game is light on it at launch, like CO). They are designed to provide new play.
In game item rewards (weapons, clothing, pots... including fluff) isnt. This is designed to replace play.
Play to Achieve > Pay to Achieve everytime. I personally prolly won't try FF if it steps out of these boundaries.
i am whole heartedly against micro-transaction shops in any mmo. i cant freakin stand them! when soe put em in all their games it was fine at first. nothing big, just some crap items nobody really cared about. then they started adding more and more to it until there was some badass shit on there that you could only get from the shop. not in game at all. so if you didnt fork out more dough you were SOL
which is total bullshit. item shops should stay the hell out of p2p mmo's. server transfers and renames and what not like that should be purchaseable on the website. if i see a bitchin item in the game i should be able to craft it or loot it and not have to pay 5 fucking dollars of my actual money to get a virtual world worthless thingy.
micro shops are gonna make this genre even worse then its already become
Whole heartedly agree (though not so vehemently :-)). Actually, I don't really even want to see server transfers, but would prefer one world.
Wait, so you expect them to just let you hope around servers as much as you want for free? You don't think that costs them money to have to transfer all of your data from one server to another? That would also not help deter people from hopping servers repeatedly just because they can. Do you think you should have to pay nothing once you start paying the subscription fee? Like all expansions, and any other thing they might come out with?
I expect a server transfer to be free, but limited to once a year.
I am okay with paying for an expansion (as long as it is optional) once a year or so.
BTW, your tone sounds like you side with the company over the players.
Most who are familar with how SE do things will tend to side with SE on this type of matter. Since they try to be what a MMO company should be, and FFXI was the proof that they actually knows when they need to change things, and when they need to stand their ground.
Cashshop is one of thoes issue where SE will stand their ground and say "no" unless majority of players actually strongly demand it, which you know is not going to happen since there is already a subscription and players hate to pay extra. However, microtransaction for extra customer services have been standard practice in FFXI, and SE have set very fair prices even since the beginning.
Yes, you can call me a fanboi of SE, I am not even ashamed to admit it since it is the ONLY MMO company I actually have some amount of respect for how professional they are when managing a MMORPG.
EDIT: Saw alot of people mistaken about the thread so read below.
Please do not confuse what SE mean by microtransaction, it is NOT a cashshop. Please read more than the title before reply, they were talking about extra customer service such as a server change.
SE would never make microtransactions in the form of paying RL money for in game items, the day they do that, is the day hell freezes over. Unless they do it somewhat like World of Warcraft how you can buy pets or other useless/decoration items, which would be fine ( say like for you mog house assuming they have housing this time around) They will definately have the server xfers and other such things they had in 11 around.
I don't know if anyone mentioned it but ffxi had at least one real life item that you could buy that would give you an in game item, that leviathan pendant or something. Perhaps they are going to expand on that, or provide similar in game items for real money, idk, sorry if someone mentioned it already xD
I really doubt we will see game changing items available via microtransactions. I mean honestly every game ever to be released in the west with such a system has failed, or has only managed to grab a handful of people for a short amount of time. Square isnt stupid, they have been in the gaming industry for a very long time and know what players want and dont want.
EVERY MMO on the market at the moment, and every future MMO will have a cash shop of sorts (or microtransactions). The type of content they sell though will vary from MMO to MMO, from Developer to Developer. I dont see Square been one of those out-of-touch developers who know nothing about their Fanbase.
this is a break or make topic for me, if there are micro transactions that have anything that affects the gameplay other than items just for show- i probably wont be playing
One of the only reasons why I was looking at this title was because it was known for FFXI which was NOT a micro but a monthly fee

To me this is the biggest clue pointing towards the fact their wont be any game changing micro-transactions available. Its already been announced that FFXIV is a montly fee based game. Now to add a a cash shop that allows you to pretty much instantly acquire items and skills that would normally take a couple of months to acquire in-game is not a good business model.
i think most people agree, if the game adds in game altering items into FF14 many people would back off from the game, including myself who has been drooling at the mouth for this game. I can garuntee if they do pull that kind of stunt not only will they loose a heafty amount of there player base, but there would be a huge outcry about it anywere people can talk about it (which would force them to take it out) also it would very much hurt SE's name, keeping even more future players away because they heard "that FF game that makes you pay monthly AND has a cash shop".
Even though im 99.9% sure that they just mean cosmentic things and stuff like server transfers, SE would be complete and utter fools to even think about adding in any sort of game altering microtransaction items.
