Metallica

I just rented the Metallica: some kind of monster DVD and thought it was great, I liked metallica before but now after watching this I like them a lot more and love their music.
Just wondering if people here like metallica at all. This is one of those things where it'll be either

METALLICA RULES!
or
METALLICA CAN ROT IN HELL!!

Metallica lost their prime in the early 90s. They now rehash their music and it all sounds the same.

Heck yeah! I and 28 friends had a tailgate party when we went to see Metallica tour with Guns N Roses! (nobody went in the stadium to see opener Faith No More... LOL!).

Yep, there recent stuff is mediocre. Nothing like the stuff they did back in their prime. St. Anger was terrible; glad I listened to my friends before I bought it. Just wish they stuck with what they did instead of trying to fit whats popular right now.

Some Kind of Monster was a very good documentary. Sure, the band sucks now, but it was fun to watch. Lars is hillarious.

I lost all of my interest in Metallica once heard their Saint Anger cd. They were good mid 90s and down, but after that they just went down hill in my opinion.

I'm definitely thinking of digging back into Led Zepplin's back catalogue. For all Matrix fans, Puff Daddy's collaboration on 'Come With Me' 'borrows' the guitar riff from Kashmir. That said, I've always hated Stairway to Heaven.

For which, they shall burn in purgatory! :P Linkin Park are the most bland, whiney, posers of Nu Metal. Did they steal their lyrics (angst, man) from some teen's diary, who was like, really bummed because his Parents forbade him from staying up later than 22:00 hours?

The less said about modern Aerosmith the better - except the 'Crazy' video (featuring Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler - his daughter **). I remember during my university days, hanging out a friend's house watching MTV when his house-mate and my friend phoned up from home (it was half term) to ask if we were watching 'Crazy' on MTV. He then spent the whole record slavering down the phone due to Liv Tyler. She was absolutely scorchingly HOT during that period.

You and I would not get along. I hate Aerosmith and I dispise Fred Durst with a passion. I also think that Linkin Park's songs are terribly mixed and the band has no talent, since everyone of their instruments is mixed during recording.

Metallica is one of my favorite bands. It's true that St. Anger isnt great but they still put on a hell of a show. I saw 'em in october during the madly in anger with the world tour and they played hardly any new shit. They are making (or will be soon) a new album that will supposedly not be crap like St. Anger mostly is.

Metallica was my favourite band for a long time especially the Reload, but St.Anger is poor ::::21::

Metallica were great but they have lost the edge now, but you still have to give them respect for what did for rock music in the 90's!

And Xplororor i have to kind of disagree with your above statement, no doubt  Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin and to a lesser exstint Metallica paved a path and are partially responsible for the catagories you listed, but they were not the only ones, you are leaving out some great bands that were more influential,

Such as: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC image, The Clash, The Ramones, Pink Floyd and Nivarna

    just to name a few.

Nirvana was not influential. Cobain could not sing and almost everyone of their songs was depressing. I think Cobain was more depressing than Reznor is now, and he hates everything! The only influential grunge bands were Mother Love Bone, Alice in Chains. and Soundgarden. Feel free to disagree.

I agree with people saying that St-Anger sucked. I mean, come on, even I could do the same sounds the drummer did with garbage cans. Neverthless, the music is, strangely enough, good to augment one's aggressiveness level...

Nirvana wasn't infuential, they just got lucky, or unlucky according to that sad bastard Cobain, and became insanely popular. They sounded no better, probably worse than other grunge bands.

And on Metallica: I just recently started listening to their stuff. My view is that everything after Reload was some form of crap. What I love about their old music is the composition, you're not only able to rock out to it, you can study and pick out little things in their songs. Their new music... well I could blame that on society. They want to keep pace with new successful music, which for the most part is crap (Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, etc.).

I haven't seen Some Kind of Monster, I want to badly though.

Finally! Someone who doesn't like Nirvana. I've always been riddled why people like that band so much. Ever since Cobain killed himself they've been more popular than ever. If he was alive today they would be in the gutter.

Yeah, I would have to say Nirvana is one of the most overrated rock bands out there. Their stuff isn't terrible, I just don't think it's as good as the examples Kiamde gave. A lot of it just seems to be the usual "oh, my live sucks theme" that most rock bands today have. They just came out at the right place at the right time.

And yeah, Metallica has gone down the drain since Reload. I just wish they could have stuck to what they’re good at like Iron Maiden’s come back. I hope their next CD is a step in the right direction.

Not a hero unless you die, as they say. Cobain wrote good lyrics but yes, they are kind of depressing. It depends on the mood, sometimes I'll turn the volume, sometimes I could just throw the CD.

Nirvana seems to be take'n a bit of a beating here, i personally only like are couple of there songs and on the whole find there music pretty depressing, but with that said i added them to that little list of mine because they are extremely popular and alot of young rock bands seem to credit Nirvana with having some kind of an influence on them.

but there are more influential bands then Nirvana, such as: The Velvet Underground, The Grateful Dead, The Who and The Sex Pistols!

But all it really comes down to is who you like.

By the way Kiamde, Alice in Chains image

     Whoah, easy there partner. image

I didn't say I was a fan of Aerosmith, Limp Bizkit, and Lincoln Park, and RUN-DMC. I was simply putting out the music "geneology" , the music "family tree", of where everything's source came from.

I am a hardcore fan of Guns & Roses, a hardcore fan of some of Metallica's Albumes, Hardcore fan of some of Led Zepplin.

As for Aerosmith, I respect that they managed to get along with each other from the 1960's to now. Most bands would be at each other's throats from being around each other sooo much.

I met Limp Bizkit in person, (at autograph signing in NYC, at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square) and have to say in person, they are extreemly nice, well mannered, and down to earth. They talked to each fan for as long as each fan wanted to talk to them. I do like 1-3 of their songs.

Lincoln Park ... hmmm.... yeah it's obvious they pose. But hey, in their favor it's making money, its their 5 mins of fame before they become unknowns. The problem I have with them is they won't admit their sound, style, is OLD. Run-DMC did it decades before them. Aerosmith did it decades before them. Mixing rap with rock. Rock with rap.

metallica has maintained a steady slide into the toilet... and needs to be flushed.. curt cobain did the world a favor.

and there has not been anything happening musically in a long time, most of the stuff is a rehash of what has been done already.

before you even think of bashing me.. i was part of the militia... i was there and saw them on the kill em all tour with raven. i have there demo tapes which i acquired through kerrang's underground tape trading scene.

i was saddened at the day the world lost imoho the greatest best player in history.

and after the master album it has been a slow slide into hell for them.

the final nail for me was bending their fans over with the napster shit...

this from a band that stood on the corner of battery, san fran, handing out cassettes and posters just to generate interest in them.

It is my opinion that after Ride the Lightning, they should have walked away. Also, Nirvana sucked, Cobain wasn't a good writer and when he pulled the trigger he did the world a favor, well, he actually didn't as now every person and their mother know Nirvana and this it's cool to listen to them.

Raprock/rap in general sucks. Rap isn't music, and modern rock takes virtually no skill to play or write, it just blows, same with punk.

    Edit: Grunge sucks hard to.

Ya I figured most people would hate, or just not like metallica anymore, most people around here think the same thing too, metallica was good back in the day but now they aren't as good.

metallica was incredible when they were a heavy metal band

its a shame the heart of the band died (as well as all the members) in that fatal bus wreck..
