As I've stated many times over and I'll state it again: Darkfall's community is one of the best if not THE best communities I have ever had the pleasure to play with. However, if you want to judge the community based solely off of the forums, then I can see why you'd think the community is bad. The official forums are a place for clans and alliances to trash talk, make fun of each other, and laugh about good times (and misfortunes). What fun would a game that involves so much politics in the actual gameworld be if everyone held hands and sang kum-bay-ya around a campfire? It wouldn't be fun at all! Now, what happens in the game? Well, for the most part you'll find a bunch of mature players that enjoy the politics, the espionage, the backstabbing, the secret alliances, the random help from a stranger, etc that happens daily. Hell, ask people who are playing the trial and see how many of them are getting help from new players. I myself have donated 20 PvP ready bags to players I see have the newbie protection sign over their heads, and countless, countless others are helping as well. I'm getting kind of sick of seeing these threads, because 99% of the time they're from people who have never played the game and make their opinions based on what they see on a forum or hear from a troll. Either way, I'm off to play with my friends (and enemies) and have a blast with one of the best communities I've seen since Ultima Online.
I'll say it again as well - the Darkfall community is the worst I've ever seen. That's not the forums (though they are horrific), that's in-game.
I'm sorry if that doesn't mesh with your small reality or personal experience. Any game's community will be better if you limit yourself to a set group of friends. Overall, however, the rest of the community can still be good or bad. In DF's case, it's bad, as it has a far higher percentage of bad people (not bad gamers, actually bad people) for the average player to contend with.
I think it's funny that a DF'er would be angry that DF's community is perceived as lousy. Aventurine laid that foundation for years through their chosen line of hype, and much of the playerbase ran with it, doing all they could to further cultivate the "badass" rep of the game. To many of them, being a jackass is a badge of honor. Many, many DF players have done no small amount of work earn that bad reputation, as stupid as that is.
The equation for the immature DF player was: DF is a game played by PvP badasses. I play DF, therefore I'm a badass.
In any event, enjoy the fruits of DF's internet tough guy image and community. You've earned it.

Well, I can only speak from personal experience, but I've found the Darkfall community to be tolerable. For the record, I play an Orc, so my experiences are drawn from mostly the Ork newbie zone and the area surrounding the NEW clan's city. The racial alliance chat is full of Barrens Chat-esque conversation (with less Chuck Norris). Newbies ask questions and they actually get accurate answers, which most of the time are neutral in tone, occasionally rude, less occasionally polite.
I can count the times I've been ganked on one hand, and one of those times it was more of a "shoot first, ask questions later" incident since I was passing through a player city. The guy even gave all my stuff back.
Really, it all seems to come down to individual player experience. I would argue that Darkfall's community is better than WoW's, but it's got more than its fair share of asshats. Most PvP games do, though. In my experience, it isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but then again, people tend to portray it in a way that it couldn't possibly be any worse in reality.

Neither you nor I can speak for the majority, though there's a ton of evidence that makes your contention laughable. In any event, that's your opinion and perception, which is fine. It runs counter to mine, and apparently to a lot of other people's as well.
I'm glad you've found a community you're compatible with.
I went into the darkfall trial with the mindset the community was terrible from following forumfall for a while before and these boards...
After dying twice on goblins someone came along and gave me like, a full bone armour set! gave me some tips on combat and sent me on my way... I was taken aback... maybe this was just lucky?
I thought that till i logged in the next day and I was killing some more goblins (cant get enough ;D) and by the end of it I had made a really decent amount of friends...
The community from what I seen was not as expected. Fair enough I didn't run into the hardcore pvpers (but they're twats in every game... no not all pvp'ers but there is a fair few who are)

It is just one indicator of the community at large.
To you, the "community" might be the relatively small set of people in your clan or alliance. That's not the community, however - it's a tiny subset of the whole.

It also contradicts my own personal experience.
Sorry, but this leads me to believe that you're full of it.

Case in point. Expect a lot more experiences like that in your future time in Darkfall.

No it's not a "relatively small set of people" Mr. Assumptions. I'm sorry you had such a rough experience with the community, but this is simply not the norm. People say a lot of silly things about this game, but to say it has a bad community clearly displays that you do not know what you're talking about.

It displays a difference of opinion, and nothing more. Your opinion isn't a fact. Neither is mine.
I'm glad you're enjoying the DF community. But if you can't understand that many, many people haven't, you've got some serious blinders on.
I was interested in this game for many reasons, including a bunch of recommendations from other users on these forums. So I went over to the official forums and I can not believe how immature and angry all the players are. I realize that most of the forum talk is going to be negative because people having fun don't post as often. But even when comparing DF to Wows childish forums, DF looks bad. Is the in-game community as bad as the forums? Because even if its just a fraction of the hostility and rudeness that are rampant on the forums I will not even try Darkfall. I want a supportive and nice community, I dont want to be attacked for every little thing i say.
P.S. I wanted to post this on the DF forums but after I registered they never sent me a email to activate my account, so whatever.
The forum has a decent share of trolls, but as I believe Syncaine mentionned, the worst trolls on the DFO forum are often the most helpfull players in-game and it's pretty accurate. The community in-game is very helpfull while the forum is mainly for "measuring ones e-peen, and trolling".

Well the community is obviously horrible because it is, according to you, full of "bad people". How you come by this assumption, i do not know. Any information you can provide on your experience so we know where youre coming from?
Some of the DF fans on the forums are really nice, other total morons. It is however wrong to judge a game based on what people is talking on the forum, your choices are trying the trial thing and see for yourself or to try something else.
If the game have a lot of features that you want you should try it, only you can decide if you like the community or not. If there are more than a few features you don't like you shouldn't bother.
To judge a community based on people on the forum is kind of like judging a games subs by looking on Xfires numbers, it will only show a small part of the community..
If you like dealing with griefers, then this game is for you. Sure there are a few good people out there, but when I played (4+ months), they were few and far between.
Find a good guild, because it's bad in the starter cities.
Find a good guild, because it's bad in the starter cities and I wasn't willing to move somewhere else in order to make my own ingame experience less frustrating.
Well I'm gonna give the trail a shot next week if I can get some time. Kinda odd to me that players have such different views on the community. Guess I'll have to see for myself. Thanks for the info
If you end up playing on NA-1 then feel free to send me a PM on these forums and I will be more than happy to login and provide you with some gear, gold and various items to assist you in starting out.

So this more or less sums up the "Quality" of players on DF? Just because it is "Hardcore" PvP doesn't mean you have to act like a child. I hope you enjoy playing this game with other like minded "l33t d3wds" because thats all that will be left.
Lol. How old are you, mr "quality gamer"? Around 30 I guess? No wonder you don't like DF community - you're too young for it...

Oh so now you've played 4+ months? Damn you're just jumping all over the place now! Fail troll. You got killed and you're mad because you lost goblin loot. Go back to your precious arenas.
To all the new players: the in-game community is fine. If you've played any other MMO that has an active playerbase, you won't find anything new here. Trade chat, Faction (race alliance) chat, Local chat.
Use trade chat for questions, use race alliance chat when you're bored, and use local when you need help. No different from any other MMO.

That's weird because in his other thread he explained that he wiped his 3 month-old character 3 days ago, and started a new one. That doesn't sound like 4+ months to me.

Just don't roll an alfar.
