I get just enough on unemployment to get by, any less and I would be screwed.
Cut off non-essential services, etc...
You are unemployed, yet here you are on the internet...
Perhaps if you actually took the time to prioritize what you need to survive and what you don't, you would have an easier time scraping by on the taxpayer's dime.
Saying you would be screwed is not true, you just are not willing to go without certain things, even though you cannot rightfully afford them (as clearly evidenced by your own admission).
The ONLY extra a pay for is Internet and its the cheapest plan I could get. Incase you haven't been keeping with the times, most job searches are online now (not to mention I have to file for my unemployment every week online). So you tell me, which of my other bills should I cut off so I can take a minimum wage job? water? car? Insurance? electricity? gas? Phone? Rent? Because besides those bills, the only bill I have is for my Internet. Internet I consider a required bill as I still have much I must do on it, even being unemployed. As to the game, I played a game I got for FREE and played for a month for FREE.
I think some people may be confusing Unemployment Insurance payments with welfare payments in other countries/circumstances.
Unemployment Insurance is something you pay into(non voluntarily in most states) and your employer is taxed on whilst you are employed. This is to give you adn the government a safety net period if you should become involunatrily unemployed. This lasts only a set amount of time based on how long you were paying into it up to a cap.So people collecting on Unemployment Insurance are collecting on something they worked for.
I'm sure if still unemployed after their Unemployment Insurance runs out then those in question in this thread would take a burger slinging job or whatever whilst they continue to look for something better.
This reminds me: in the early days of EVE, I once remained subscribed for eight months without a single charge. I don't know how it happened, but it sure did. I only started getting charged again a month after I finally mentioned it on the fora (due to beginning to feel a bit guilty).
Favorites: EQ, EVE | Playing: None. Mostly VR and strategy | Anticipating: CU, Pantheon
Yeah, overdraft fees are the worse case scenario with these kind of monthly fee errors. I suggest to the OP and everyone to completely disable overdraft "protection" with their bank. That way when Cryptic or whoever falsely charges you, they are simply told "cannot complete transaction, player has no money." This makes your bank extremely sad, but anyone who is unable to keep a savings balance should really disable overdrafting.
did the same thing after i got charged around $70 for 2 seperate transaction for total of $18. one of them being a half a gallon of milk. So that turned out to be the most expensive gallon of milk in history lol.

As for the OP, honestly man, I've heard nothing but negatives for Cryptic and their CS. So I hope they restore the money, AND pony up for charges you incurred due to their negligence.
This is why when I canceled I also deleted my card information from my account. I've never been personally burned by this tactic before but I've heard too many stories.
Odd, i tried to do this as well, but there is no function on the account pages to delete your card information that i could find and i spent about 20 minutes going through every single option.
Also, when i cancelled, i did not recieve any email from Cryptic to confirm i had cancelled my subscription.
Still, i cancelled and have not been charged.
I also notice the OP has posted this same thing on the official forums.....if you had cancelled, you would not have been able to post, only people with active sub can do that so i honestly think you just didn't cancel in time.

You are able to post in the Support forums without an active account. All other forums I am blocked in posting in. And I am positive I cancelled it in time. The account page shows my account cancelled and shows "Play Time Until: Mar 4 2010". I also recieved the email I posted in this thread after cancelling.
(and those of you thinking of making a smart comment about not having 15 bucks in my bank account, try living on unemployment and see how much you are able to keep in yours).
Im not going to make a smart comment on you not having 15 bucks in your bank account but I will make a comment on why you're playing video games while you're unemployed. Sounds like you dont have your priorities straight.
It's called a Christmas gift with a free month of game time, thanks.
You still shouldnt have been playing a game. That time couldve been spent looking for a job.
so wait xeaous when and if you are employed do you spend 24/7 beating the streets looking for work? Most job interviews and what not happen during business hours in the daytime I would even wager that businesses that are looking for employees for 2nd and 3rd shift still have you fill out apps /interview during 1st shift for the most part so taking a break in the evening to j enjoy some of a game is hardly sitting back and doing nothing living on unemployment.
And seeing that you dont know the circumstances I dont think you have any right throwing out judgements.
But with that said back on topic. Best you can do is talk with Cryptic and the Bank and try and get one of them to reverse the charges. Ever since Cryptic was bought up by Atari there CS has gone to crap. You might have some luck but I would put more effort into your bank and having them fix it. There was a time when Cryptic CS would have jumped over hoops to fix the issue for you.. Now thats very far from the case.

I heard the same thing about Mythic and Funcom. Does not Cryptic send out an email confirmation that you canceled? Im tired, I need a nap.
Yes, as stated above, I received a confirmation of cancellation email at the time I cancelled.
Did you read it?
Does it say "Sorry to see you go..." or
"CONGRATULATIONS on the purchase of your NEW MONTHY SUBSCRIPTION! All ur cash belong 2 us!"? :-D
Ah yes. Popcorn time. Popcorn anyone?
Sigh ... here is the email to spell it out for you. Not sure what is so hard to understand about receiving a confirmation of cancellation email.
The email reads as follows:
Dear *******,
This email is to confirm that you have sucessfully cancelled your Recurring 1-Month subscription. We are sad to see you go! To reactivate, simply visit https://www.startrekonline.com/user. Your characters will be there waiting for you!
Thank you for subscribing to Star Trek Online!

It was sent on 2/24 right after I cancelled.

OP, I know you cancelled. We see this every time a new MMO comes out. With some companies it's worse than others.
TBH I am waiting for the flood of posters saying "Yeah...me too!"

And to stay a bit on topic, Ruytoo, I feel you babe, I hope you get your money back, and don't ever give you credit card info to any1 anymore, use prepaid cards, the cake is a lie.
I usually just read these forums. This is my first reply actually.
1. To the ppl who post stuff like "You should search for a job instead of playing MMO's"...it's really none of your business how a person spends his life. He can spend all his money on buying freezed shit in a can for all you care, because guess what it's his money, he can do whatever he pleases with it. He isn't asking for your money!
2. Unemployed or not, it does not change that fact that he got charged for something he doesn't want to receive further servicies from.
First thing I do when I cancel any service that I pay online is remove my CC info. Live and learn. Good luck getting your money back those of you that got billed another month.
My question is what bank do you deal with...the bank of Mafia? $70 overdraft charge for $15 bucks OD?
This isn't the first game company that has done this...and probibly won't be the last. As long as you leave your personal/bank info on your account. It is very possible that you will be charged again. Everything is done by computers, if your info is there, then the computer can still make a charge.
Perhaps rather than complaining all the time. People should wize up and delete their banking info at the same time as cancelling the account.
Or just play the many FRRE TO PLAY MMo's currently available....
Yep your right, I should spend 24 hours a day seven days a week looking for a job when there are none in the area unless I wanna flip burgers and make less money then I get from unemployment. Just go troll somewhere else. If you have ever been unemployed then you wouldn't be making smart ass comments like this.
Maybe you could spent that time in a library or just take some courses to work on your education...or just take a some shitty job and work your way up...Just a few suggestions.
You still live with your parents, don't you? It's almost funny how out of touch with reality you are. "Well, I lost my job and I'm short on money. I guess I'll spend hundreds of dollars to take a 4 month course at the local community college despite the fact that it wont' have any tangible benefits!" Jeez, kid, don't give advice on things you know nothing of. Due to this crappy economy, I've been unemployed for months at a time before landing the job I have now. Really, finding job openings, sending out resumes and cover letters, talking to HR and other connections takes like 1% of your day. Most of that time is spent waiting on phone calls and emails. Welcome to reality, kids.
Have a cancelled account? Check your bank statements, you may still be getting billed! I did a little checking around the web and it would appear I am not alone on this matter. There seems to be quite a few people that cancelled there account yet are still being charged! I cancelled my account 2 weeks ago but I was charged on March 4th (as was everyone else that started on or before Launch Day). My account shows its cancelled in the Account Info section and I received a confirmation email at the time on cancellation. Thanks to this, I was charged $70 in overdraft fees on my bank account which I now have to beg and plead with my bank to remove otherwise I won't be able to pay some of my monthly bills (and those of you thinking of making a smart comment about not having 15 bucks in my bank account, try living on unemployment and see how much you are able to keep in yours). I have a feeling this happened to alot more (hell maybe even all) people that cancelled there account than is being seen yet because they haven't checked there bank accounts yet. If it is that massive, Cryptic is gonna have a major storm headed there way.
Happened to me as well, was billed even though my account was cancelled after like the 14th feb or so, but i put a dispute up with paypal and ill escalate it to a claim as well if they dont refund it.
I came to this thread because I canceled my STO account 2 days ago and found this to be a concerning topic. I didn't come here however to see all you flame on this guy cause he's currently on unemployment. Here is your solution:
1. Print email from Cryptic with date of cancellation.
2. Take it to your bank, explain the situation to them.
3 You're bank should honor this, see when you did cancel your account, see that they charged you after the fact and place your money bank in your account. (They should also refund the overdraft fees for this as well.)
If you put this in the banks hands they will/should in turn take it up with Cryptic. I know this because of a personal experience dealing with a company that tired taking my money and not delivering on a service. Most importantly though, you have to show the bank that Cryptic is in the wrong here. Someone else mentioned a good move as well, and that is to go to your STO account and DELETE all cc information. Which is what I'm going to do now.
Ill say this only once. Stay on topic and refrain from personal attacks on other users. There are off topic forums for Religion and Politics. I will lock the thread if the off-topic/flaming continues.
This is why when I canceled I also deleted my card information from my account. I've never been personally burned by this tactic before but I've heard too many stories.

If you go into your account, There is an option to edit payment source or something like that. If you click on it, you current card information should come up. At the bottome there are 2 buttons, save and delete. Click on delete and you should be good. That's how I did it and no payment source is showing up now. Not the most intuitive way to delete a card that Ive ever seen but seems to work.

I love these people who are so closed minded and such.
If you're unemployed that means you need to spend 24 hours a day searching for another? I think not. Infact:
One. that is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard.
Two: If one spends a few hours a day (4-5) job searching, he/she is free to do something to help the mind clear.
Three: What about after an interview or two?
How can you say you can't play a game because its F2P? What if you got a free month b/c of recommending a new player or something like that?
Everyone is so quick to judge and be holier than thou, but so many people lack accountability and integrity.
