The reason i still play warcraft is because really no other game has the "exciting" feeling about it.When i log on im happy to know that there is more things to do.Also warcraft holds a special place for people,People play 24hrs a day (logging in and logging off from time to time)-and really what other game have you heard that people spend there most time on?(And there may be other mmos like that)But,ive never heard of a game that people spend 24hrs on but warcraft(And i know im going to probally get negative feedback for posting this)-Whats your reason?

Warcraft is an addiction.  Although the game was once great (in my mind) it has become way to casual and I found myself only logging on for raids, as if it were my job.  I got the best gear in the game and then a month later I had to do it all over again....irrmm fun?

When I resubbed a few months ago I found myself playing for hours....by playing I mean sitting in Dalaran doing nothing

Currently there is no fantasy mmorpg that is worth the 15 dollars per month imo

Played: World of Warcraft (5Y), WarHammer (3M), Anarchy Online, Runescape (5+Y), Lord of the Rings Online, Runes of Magic, City of Heroes/Villains, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Fallen Earth (1M)

    Currently Playing: Guild Wars
    Currently Trying: None
Taking a Break From: EVE Online

It's very odd you would say this. WoW, amongst P2P models, ranks as one of the lower active gametime:subscription counts. EVE alone puts this issue to bed.

I could tell you 10 reasons why I *don't* play Warcraft, but they all pale in comparison to knowing where my money is going, and what it is supporting...

That is exactly right, and we're not saying NO to save WoW, because it is already a lost cause. We are saying NO to dissuade the next group of greedy suits who decide to emulate Blizzard and Cryptic, etc.
We can prevent some of the future games from spewing this crap, but the sooner we start saying no, the better the results will be.
So - Stand up, pull up your pants, and walk away.

The reason you still play warcraft is... because you know nothing else, it's what you're used to.

Try anything else and you'll be surprized at how much money you've been wasting, when pretty much every f2p game out there offers the same basics.

(Sorry if that sounds negative, but it is true for most wow players)

This has to be the most popular repeated and unsubstatiated quote of any on this particular forum!

I still play after all these years for two very good reasons, firstly the good people and friends i get to play alongside which gives my game time a great social feel to it. Secondly, i get to play the type of game i am in the mood for at the time, whether i want to PvP, quest, run dungeons, raid or just sit by a river fishing while i have a chat it is all catered for in one polished and tidy package.

I had a great time in EvE had two accounts there for a while too, met some great people who i now play wow alongside, but the time sink element and fundamental problems with the way that training and character limitations were employed ended up driving me away.

The reason i have personally found that WoW appeals to people for extended periods is that it is the closest thing there is around at the moment to the 'all things to all poeple' model as you can get?

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Give the guy a break.. WoW is one of the best games out there from levels 1-80.. I still would recommend it over most games to a newbie.. However, eventually everyone gets to 80 end game, and once you're suited in all epics and done some raids here and there.. BOOM..  It's over..  I'm sure there are those people that love to kill the same boss over and over and never get tired of it.. Kudo's to you..  I however get bored quickly..  How many times do you have to kill Hogger and say.. OMG.. not again..

I'm standing on top of this pyramid with 10 million others and nowhere else to go, except hit cancel..  Let me know when WoW revamps "ALL" of the old  zones, adds in a few  new classes, bring back CC to dungeons,  and give me a reason to play another alt..  OH.. and fix crafting.. I shouldn't have to "raid" to get recipes..

I really do like people who love what they are doing,I really do.

but its not a miracle that WoW players dont like MMORPG´s

its pretty much this kind of scenario " hey tennis(wow) player there, wanna join us and play some Football(Ultima Online) with us?

-Tennis(wow) player : sorry no lol,I dont know what that dirge even is :< lol omg ,yor mom dont know even how to play it.

-Football(Ultima Online) player : Its ok,till we meet again.

The reason 11.5 million players still play this game after the launch of almost 6 years ago  :

It is a damned good designed 3D world videogame, packaged in an mmorpg. (that's the main difference with old mmo's).

10 classes to play with - 6 complete different starting zones (soon 8 or even 10) to experience through.

And a fine fast fluid responsive "tight" way to play with the avatar.

Both in the leveling department as in the end game: 10 classes to play with that simply never end for at least 3 to 5 years. (rogue, warlock, mage, paladin, ... are simply different fighting experiences).

WOW is the most "videogame" of all mmorpg's. Blizzard used the same principle in SC and Diablo series. Video games are to be played not discussed in forums. And those games are played forever.

Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.

I agree with this, I once played WoW the way you do, go online and raid and it does feel like a job, as the game became more casual however I took the oportunity ( and because I dont really have the time due to RL commitments) to go casual, get the badges gear, do some arenas, do some BGs and play whenever I feel like, and it has worked a treat for me, I became a bit more interested in the lore itself and doing quests and little achievements than with getting the best gear.

This is when I truly realized why the majority of people play WoW, most people dont raid and thats a fact, and these people that are still leveling up and doing quests they dont get bored or BOTHERED by what blizz does to end game cause they dont rush through.

    Well, let's qualify that question...

By stay online for 24 hours, do you mean:

    A) actively playing, or...

    B) staying logged in even if they're not at the keyboard?

If it's A, then I've known of people to do that in literally almost every MMO I've played. They are the minority to be sure (because there are relatively few who could stay up 24 hours straight). Not sure if it's a testament to the quality of the game, or to some addiction/obsession the player(s) share, but for purpose of answering your question.. I've known of people in every MMO I've played who would stay logged in for 24+ hours.

It's also an unhealthy habit, overall, to have.. people have gotten sick from sitting at their PCs too long. There have been cases in Asia where people have died at their PCs because of playing too long without eating or sleeping, etc.

If it's B then, again, it happens in every MMO I play, and it can be for myriad reasons. They have a shop set up, they simply don't like having to log back in every time, etc. etc.

Generally speaking, in answer to your question of what other game have I heard of where there are people who spend most of their time logged on... My answer would be:

Lineage 2, Lineage 1, FFXI, EQ2, EQ, AC, AC2 (when it was running), LoTRO, SWG, Eve Online, Darkfall, Ultima Online and about 20 or so others that I've played personally.

It's certainly not something unique to WoW; not by a long shot.

    @WSIMIKE,

The thread was: "the reason I still play Warcraft is ...".

Your answer was not on topic and besides, most people over here have already taken their money and bought/tried the games you mentioned. You don't seem to understand that every rabit out of the hat is still a ... rabit.

As a matter of fact : while the number of people that arrive at their time limit in WOW (2-5 years) is increasing, so is the number of people who tried and experienced all those others too.

And not one of them had the same videogame value to support many multi million subs. They are mmorpg's first and videogame second. WOW somehow reversed that trend, video gameplay first within an mmorpg world.

There are other variations to this theme: like mmo play without rpg, mmo co-op mode, mmoRP without much video gaming value, solo on line RPG, shooter adventure game, etc...

The formula of WOW is simply the most appealing to the majority of players in this time and place of on line play. Subs numbers proved that alright for 5.5 years now.

The next MMO's (from Blizzard) will probably cover all the other forms too (in one form or another). And if you watched the news, you know I am indeed talking mmo'S here. Probably a console mmo will have less world and more game rooms, while a "time wasted" mmo and extremely hard leveling mode could be up there too (D3?), but the current success is very obvious why...

The key is video gameplay. You can't have a RP D&D pen and paper experience in a video game, how hard you try. Complete different platforms and Blizzard was the first to understand it.

Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.

    Zacrune asked a question... Specifically:

"-and really what other game have you heard that people spend there most time on?(And there may be other mmos like that)"

Notice the question mark? That means it's a *question*. Questions prompt people to provide answers... which is what I did. I was attempting to qualify his *question* and then *answering* it accordingly.

He asked what other game have you heard that people spend there [sic] most time on. I stated that I've seen it in almost every MMO I've played.

So my response was completely on topic as it directly addressed a question he asked in his post.

My point comes back to it being potentially about the player themself, regardless of the game or its popularity.  Nonetheless, none of that changes the fundamental context of Zacrune's specific question, which I answered with my own views on it.

I would also like to see proof of this mystical F2P game that has everything WoW has like polish, events, etc... I have yet to find it. I dont play WoW anymore, but it is what it is. It is the most complete and polished MMO out there alont with Lotro, FFXI, EQ2, and Aion. I have yet to find a F2P that offers over half what any of these titles offer.

    Cheers!

LoL, nice try. I've tried a lot of different stuff, but always come back to WoW. And it wasn't even my first true 'love'.

I disagree with you. I think it might help if you understand that everyone's definition of roleplay and mmo is not the same as yours.l

oh yeah i played WoW since day 1 and i don't play anymore.  The most fun i had was ranking to sergeant before BGs existed by pvping in Hillsbrad Foothills and Blackrock Mountain.  i would go back to WoW if it was full loot pvp and bgs were taken out of the game.

Good for you that you have a MMO that you like. But what you just posted is something that other players would say about other MMO's. The fact that there are maybe less of those people, doesnt it make it less true for those people.

Your post can be summarized with 'I play WoW because I like it'. Well, I assume that anyway.

You mentioned 24hrs so it could also be 'I play WoW because I cant stop and made this thread to fool myself into thinking that I do it voluntarily'. J/k :p

Maybe because you don't really like RTS games? Company of Heores, Dawn of War, those are basically just DoTA games, not really an RTS.
