wow, that is kinda stuffed for those who were chosen to test the Beta, it's so hard to play both at the same time XD

If any of you find yourself in this situation I would be more than happy to take your beta access of your hands. Ya know in the interest of being out my fellow man.

lmao I wouldn't mind helping out one of my fellow FF brethren by lifting that terrible beta burden off their shoulders. =)

Also everyone that attended Vanafest are the first invites into beta!

I'm curious as to what the OP has to say in light of this discussion we are having now, since Khrymson has made accurate predictions as to the beginning of closed beta.

Khrymson, lets see if you can accurately predict Open Beta and/or Release thereof.

    EDIT: emote inserted.

Well SE has said they'd like to have a 6 month Closed beta, which I believe they can easily achieve.  SE has also said they plan to have a very limited Open Beta mainly for server stress testing, which they clearly said we would not be allowed to see any story in or make much progress.

So CB starts on March 11th and 6 months from now would be during the second week of Sept., and going on how most MMOs proceed from Closed to Open Beta; there is usually a few days to several weeks downtime to prepare the servers for open.  I then predict that Open beta will start within the final week of Sept and first week of Oct. {Sept 23rd through Oct 9th}  Open Beta will last for at least 3 weeks to 1 month, which would place its finally near the end of Oct or early Nov.

Again, there will be at least a week or two from the end of Open Beta to the launch of FFXIV, so I say it'll launch between {Nov 13th and Nov 19th} at the earliest, and at the latest, Dec 7th through Dec 18th...

Oh and I'm busy playing FFXI, so I havn't read most of the responses here since it appeared to start way off topic...

Then my suspected 2011 release may be wrong. It appears we might see this released at the end of the year if things go well. I sure hope so! My first MMORPG was FFXI and I have fond memories of it. I can't wait to try its "sequel" (and I use that term loosely).

Just hoping the beta testers do a good job, and reporting of problems and bugs.

What I'm hoping for is they release some conclusive videos about gameplay and combat mechanics :)

Can someone please post a link to where it says closed beta, friends and family whatever?  I missed it.

A lot of people are talking about open beta and shit... I don't know, my frame of mind is different.  I don't think you're going to see an open beta... at least not outside of Japan.  I don't even remember hearing about FFXI when it launched, and I was waiting for that game for 5+ years!

Can anyone back me up in this?

I see no reason for this game to have an "open beta" at least in the US.

And I see no real proof of closed beta test dates, or who gets in first, etc.

I am getting rather tired of hearsay, give me a direct link to SE saying this (not another forum or fansite saying they heard SE say it) or just stop these threads already.

This is nothing against the OP, I just won't believe something without actual proof.

This is the only information we have seen about an exact date when it comes to the closed beta. Everything else was speculation because the people who gave out dates told us they were speculating or predicting.

I don't know what the big deal is if the game officials AT a game convention (vana whatever) said something and you don't take their word for it. It's their game, and it's not hearsay. You're skepticism has no grounds.

The OP had good intentions and several MMORPG websites have already began publishing this information.

If you are tired of hearsay then stop opening these threads.

If you are aren't sure of the authenticity then that's your opinion. Just don't expect others to take you seriously.

Based on a good feeling, timing of the CB, and past MMO experiences; I expect a release between August-November 2010. That's just my 2 cents, but 4 months for a CB (if march 11 date is true, mass invites will be coming by late april/may) with 1 month of polishing puts it right in there. Historically I think big name games tend to be released around this time ( DAoC, FFXI, WoW) but there's really only speculation to go on now, the game could be released in June 2011 if they wanted. However, I think the customers and fans have a big influence on expediting the process. We will just have to wait and see.

    currently playing: FFXI
Waiting for FFXIV to be updated more.

This sounds spot on to me.  The only thing to consider is whether or not SE is making their decision as it relates to when Cataclysm will be released.  I also think they may want to release it on the anniversary of FFXI.  I frankly want it released when SE feel's its ready.

No CB invites have been sent out yet, the invites for 11th March are a special Alpha test for long-term FFXI players. The beta invites will be sent out in waves but no dates have been given for that yet. They've made it clear that they want to be able to give everyone who's interested in the beta at least a chance at trying the game out though.

The current closed phases will be the real testing, closer we get to release the more it'll become a marketing thing as more people are let in.

Lets clear up some misconceptions and false info here...

1 - Vanafest attendees and select beta applicants will begin alpha/beta testing within 2 months. March 11th was the date the beta site and forum would go live, not when beta would start.

2 - The first wave of invites have already been completed. If you didn't get one, you still have a chance for the later stages of beta. SE has already said they would increase the amount of beta participants as it progresses, and near the end, have as many people experience the game they can fit.

You're looking at the wrong target audience. Most games aren't aimed at that target audience anymore they're aimed at 19-25 and 26-32. Demographically they're the largest purchasers of games. Most of the "young crowd" that would be off for "summer vacation" don't have enough money to purchase and pay for subs.
