The feature list sure looks promising. I hope they can deliver. This is a lot of information for a game that has just popped up out of nowhere lol. Good post.
I was thinking the same thing. That and the "pay for Beta, ugh, we mean The Prelude..." scheme is a little off putting.

Prelude starts April 15th (release date) and is the first chapter of Xsyon.
You do not pay for beta. You are allowed early entry to the game as a thank you for pre-ordering. just before the 15th the servers will be wiped for release. I am unsure if it is a full wipe or just a character wipe.

Sigh, I dont understand why so many are confused with this.
Prelude is part of the games name. Xsyon: Prelude
When the game releases, you will be playing PRELUDE. Prelude is the name of the first chapter in Xsyon. After a few months of release (most likely end of summer), a new chapter will be released, starting the next era of evolution in the game. Basically it is an expansion.
The only advantage or pre-ordering is a head start so you and your tribe can make some of the first towns. Thats IT.
It isnt a beta, It is a head start to the final product which releases only a couple weeks later.

Yes BUT, the toons will be wiped from "early release" aka beta for prelude. HOWEVER, its likely that the world things they made and changed will stay.
Hope that clears it up.
So people wont get a head start on skilling up toons, just how to play and a chance to build up the world before others join in with prelude.
This game seems too good to be true. It strikes me too much of UO/old SWG to be real. If it is half as good as it sounds this game is finally going to give sandbox fans somewhere to hang our hats.

How can you say it's not paid beta? .
all beta testing is currently done in house
there's nobody from the general public in it
the only way for the general public to get into the beta is to pay for the game.
Yes, "early access" is a bonus for buying a product we've never seen, but it amounts to "paid beta", IMO, since the only way to get into beta, it seems, is to pay. If you had a closed beta in which some members of the general gaming public were given a chance to participate (via sign-ups, for example), without having to pre-order the game, that would be one thing. One of your posts alluded to that. Can you please verify?
I am unsure if it is a full wipe or just a character wipe.
Character wipe erases our created characters, what about the content (ie towns, etc) will that get erased at release?
(I know you don't personally know that as your not a dev, only time will tell, just a thought)
Well I thought the reason for early entry was to build towns for the others to start in. So wiping the whole server would make this mute.
This is actually one of the points that bothers me about Xsyon. You're relying on paying players to actually build the world you'll end up charging other players for. Theres' a fine line between sandbox and charging players to "finish" the game for you....
Will the original world building players get something other than warm fuzzy feelings? Titles, skills, some sort of in-game reputation or notoriety mechanic, the ability to collect taxes, etc..?

Early settlers....(With I realise does not really sound to positive...some most likely know what I mean :P), will get the ability to get to good resource position first and off course learn the game before anyone else. Also how do you mean the player to finish the game for you? It's like saying you dislike Wikipedia, because your relying on people to fill it with content and finishing the website for the devs.
web 2.0 has hit MMO's as well, just a matter of time before mainstream developers pick it up.
The feature list ain't bad, but if everything developers promise comes true, every game would be fantastic. The graphics seem to be ok. Not great, not horrible.
Once the game has been released for half a year (and most larger bugs got fixed), if it has a free trial, I'll have a look
Correct me if I am wrong, but 120 sq km is 1000 Meters X 120 Meters. Isn't it to small?
Even the later 1.200 sq km is just 1200 meters x 1000 meters?
Or maybe I am wrong, and in game characters have around 12-18 cm? So they are like 10 times small than a real man and so the world perspective is 10 times bigger them I said?
Hope so the the second option is right, or the world will be way to small.
*Sorry my english, not native. And if anything about it was said before, please tell me and sorry for double post.

I think you didn't work that out quite right.
120 sq Km would be something like 10K x 12K so 10,000 meters by 12,000 meters. It is early though so my brain might not be doing the math correctly.
If you keep your original 1000 meters that means the 120 you multiply by is still thousands so 1000 meters by 120000 meters, what you did gives you 120, 000 as a total but 120K square is different. . I hope I made sense.
I'm not a big follower of Xsyon but happened to be reading the thread anyway. Size of a virtual world is an interesting matter. So often it is a matter of feeling evoked by the world design as much as actual measurements. Various comparisons between games have been made, mostly referring to running speed and time it takes to travel from end to end. But here we have 120 sq km, so how do we put that in context?
Back so Saint Helena. While it's just an insignificant fly dropping on world maps, Wikipedia page shows it is varied enough to have significant climate changes within the island. The picture from space is nice, couldn't get decent satellite images of it from Google Maps. Population is mostly divided into 8 communities (towns?) ranged from few hundred to almost a thousand people each. Total population of 4,255 while the FAQ in OP states "The game is designed for a few thousand and as we expand we plan to have new areas on separate servers, not copies of the same world."
The size itself shouldn't really be an issue, but how well it can be utilized.
EDIT: I wonder if they can support enough player connections per server to make growth to 1200 sq km worth it.

Quickly checking a list of countries by area, we got Saint Helena at 122 sq km. We also see that's about 47 sq miles, the size of the states of Mississippi or New York for the US folks. I think you are looking at this from the wrong view. People playing Xsyon are more about sandbox not about getting something out of it.
They are building a world and are part of the history of the game. You build something it goes down in the game history. Early release isnt just about building for others to use later, it will be known in the history of Xsyon that town was built by players.
Devs could easy make a tribe (AKA town) for people to start in, but this was another added bonus to people to build up the world a bit more and write history for themselves.
No they dont get anymore than warm fuzzies. Which is more than they get out of most games "beta"s.
Dont forget these early release people will also learn and understand the game better than people that start on prelude day.

Just updated the OP with "will there be magic" question.
