I noticed the issue with the screenshots, too. I'm not willing to call it a hoax, but I do have a very healthy degree of skepticism that they'll be able to deliver. I also think their inability to provide more concrete information is unprofessional, in light of the fact that they're soliciting preorder sales. It comes down to this - offering something for sale and accepting money from said sales without providing evidence of the product's existence or functionality is extremely questionable. Yes, they have posted screenshots, but they're suspect as you indicate above. There are no screenshots of actual play including UI and there are no videos. We were told by Xsyon and Virtus that they would provide a video and that stance has since changed to "preorder players will provide the videos"...
Btw - I'm the one who did the original research you quoted. The thread in which I posted those comments had it's title and opening post changed by the OP at least three times. The original title and post questioned whether or not Xsyon was a scam, which is why i did the research I did. Somebody questioned it, so I posted what I found. Speaking of research, here's a little something else to chew on:
Jordi Grau Davis (that's me) studied for many years, earning Bachelor degrees in Archaeology and Architecture from the University of California Berkeley and a Master's degree in Architecture from Harvard University, only to leave it all behind for video games in 1994.
I founded two game graphics companies, Vector Graphics and Future Primitive and have been in the game industry for 15 years. Through these companies I fulfilled contracts with Sony, Sega, Mindscape, Microprose, Virgin Interactive, Raven Soft, Hewlett Packard, Worlds Inc. and many other clients culminating with a publishing deal with Electronic Arts with only a four person team.
As Future Primitive was disbanded, I continued working as both an artist and a programmer for several small independent projects for companies including Autodesk and Hurricane Electric, the latest being an online world Roma Victor which was released to the public in July of 2006.
I founded Notorious Games LLC in 2007 with the intention of creating a unique virtual game world, the game I’ve been wanting to play since I first sat at a computer, Xsyon.

Ah didnt notice that, it's been circling around p. far then. Cheers on the good work .
As you, I won't call it a hoax just yet even tho Dawn from Glitchless comes to mind - but I do want people to be more skeptical when it comes to a feature list like this. A small company comes out and promises the sandbox crowd(myself included) everything we have ever wanted. The past many times this has been offered it has been with a pre-order aswell and everytime we end up with a very bad product.
If the company is as healthy as every fan boy is shouting - and since the company doesn't want hype and have been keeping the game a secret for so long, they shouldn't have any need for extra money as they have been doing fine up till now.
interesting thread for sure. I have to admit, as a "sandbox" fan, this game would really be something if indeed they could pull off all their claims. As others have said though, it does sound too good to be true. It all seems quite perfect for me, besides the aesthetic, i like the idea of the game and the genre. i'm tired of fantasy mmo's, i never liked the genre in the first place, they're just the only good titles there are. i prefer mainstream, AAA titles, just not of the WoW persuasion. why Bethesda doesn't make a Fallout mmo I will never know. As for Fallen Earth, i played the beta and the free trial after release and i didn't like it, and that really only leaves Xsyon and Earth Rise which i think is pvp oriented which i'm not that interested in. If this game does exist and deliver the goods, the only problem i'll have with it is the way it looks (looks colorful and toony- i want something dark and full of grit, like i imagine a post-apocalyptic world would be, all strewn with debris and junk- in the few screen shots, camps look like bunny sanctuaries- not "worn in" survival camps), but i can get passed that. heres to high hopes!

Gee, if only it was as easy to look up (and as free) as simply googling "Jordi Davis"
Here we have Jordi, on the game website saying he founded Vector Graphics, but the actual company website listing somebody else as the founder? Why the discrepancy? Why the snark? Wouldn't it be easier and more customer friendly to just explain?
Notorious and Xsyon come out of nowhere, start soliciting pre-orders, there's sketchy information about the company and no actual footage of the game and you're surprised consumers are looking for more information? It's kind of like a new store popping up on the corner, but with nothing inside except for posters of an alleged miracle product that will be available in a month or two, but you can buy it now!

Ok, That isn't enough for some here is what those documents will show. From the mouth of Jordi:
Josh White operated under the name of Vector Graphics. We then founded a new partnership using the same name that's what the taxID and business license show. When I founded Future Primitive he kept the Vector Graphics name as a sole proprietor.

Makes perfect sense to me, thanks.
For the record, as I've stated in past posts, I don't think it's a scam. I just have a healthy level of skepticism that you'll be able to deliver such an impressive list of features. For your own benefit, I'm afraid of you running into the current debacle with Mortal Online and massive public negativity, charge backs, etc... Personally, I'd like to see a higher level of standards and transparency (and not just for Notorious, btw). It would serve both Notorious and consumers better, IMO.
I truly do wish you the best and hope the game is as amazing at it sounds.

My kinda posts.
Everyone waiting for videos now =P
In general, I have to give props to Virtus. While I'd like to see more concrete info on the game, he's good about keeping tabs on the community, both here and on the official site. Even though I, and others, have a lot of hard questions, he's communicating what he can.
scam or no scam, i sure don't empathize with the makers of Xsyon for being grilled. if your going to run your business in an unorthodox fashion, your relatively unheard of or have no previously developed consumer trust , and your going to sell what may appear to some to be snake oil, you should expect the skepticism. in fact, its pretty arrogant to develop and market a game is this manner, imo. Although, I will also say that i also wont empathize with people who buy this game and get burned if it is indeed some sort of bullshit. we have to be smarter as consumers.
it is possible that they are just not very savvy business men, and after squandering or running out of resources and funds, and in a desperate move, they concocted this idea to have players "pay to develop" (and i'm not talking just about the pre-release orders, I mean everyone who plays the game in , lets say, the first 6 months) which might explain why they have just "came out of nowhere." who knows, maybe the game was planned for release much later, but finances forced this move of desperation (no matter what the circumstanceS really are, this company is desperate, that's obvious) i will say that, although in video games it is never received well, the practice of scraping up a company by getting investors by any means possible, other than blatant lying, is a somewhat accepted business practice, and certainly happens every day on Wall Street. Investors and shareholders are promised things all the time that never come to fruition. If that indeed is the case with Xsyon, and the developers are committed to this game and seeing that promises are kept, within their control and abilities, then I hope it goes well for them and the people who want this game to be all it can be (me!).
In all reality, after the first release of any MMORPG that has planned content additions and expansions, the player base is paying for the current development. That's the difference here though, they are doing it before first release. That's just not gonna sit right with most, for a multitude of reasons.
I must say, it is ironic their name is Notorious Games, considering their notoriety is almost non-existent.
And still i think that this is not someting that bode well for xsyon: "... the latest being an online world Roma Victor ... " from Jordi Graus cv.
Has anyone here played Roma Victor? What an abomination O.o !!!
Jordi was not the lead dev, he only did client side coding/terrain. RV was like Jordi's red headed step child. That crap of a game was caused by the stupidity of KFR
I should also add that the lead dev (Jordi) has confirmed that only one character can be created per account so reputation will be important in this game.
And after this first stage of the game (Prelude) tribal territories can grow and be shaped by placing additional totems. Right now the size of tribal territories will be based upon tribal size.
This depends on how you play the game, but in general players can live close to 100 years.
it sounded very realistic - until we got to this post-apocalyptic lifespan of 100 years thing. we have an apocalypse and live 25 years on average longer than we do now, but without quality healthcare, food, and water?

Well all that running, fresh air, exercise, and lack of fast food (except for the rabbits) one could expect people to last a little longer

Perhaps, but according to the lore Xsyon takes place DURING the apocalypse. The destruction phase is past and now the gods with thier powers are starting to enter the world. So longer life (and resurection after being killed) might be a consequence of this.
Although perhaps the acutal real life lifespan is irrelevant in a game. The main game mechanic is that your character will age and after a few real life years your character will die leaving something behind for your new character. With a soft cap on skills this does not seem like a real big penalty.

Per Xsyon.com:

So Josh White actually founded Vector Graphics and later sold the company? Weird - that's not what Jordi said... Also, she bought the company in 1999 while Jordi was the CFO of Future Primitive Games from 1997 to 2002

I noticed the issue with the screenshots, too. I'm not willing to call it a hoax, but I do have a very healthy degree of skepticism that they'll be able to deliver. I also think their inability to provide more concrete information is unprofessional, in light of the fact that they're soliciting preorder sales.

Got this information straight from Jordi:
his Vector Graphics tax payer ID: 943238360
Alameda California Business License: Account 15704
Since you Looked up everything else this shouldn't be a problem come back with the results please

All the information to support this statement has been provided in my post above.

Sounds too good to be true. I'm skeptical, and will wait for players to let the public know if this game is everything the developers claim it to be.
has any of this come true?
That's what I want to know!
Bump.
And from a programming point of view, a one man rendering engine even that of Roma Victor is still a large amount of work.
I should also add that the lead dev (Jordi) has confirmed that only one character can be created per account so reputation will be important in this game.
And after this first stage of the game (Prelude) tribal territories can grow and be shaped by placing additional totems. Right now the size of tribal territories will be based upon tribal size.
inferno3387 asks:
How long is the life span after this apocalypse?
Xsyon Developer Responds:
With a soft cap on skills this does not seem like a real big penalty.
it was a joke!
*laughs*
Hi Oakstead, i think i used to be in your clan a long time ago during Vanguard launch on the RP server they had at the time.
Will you be playing Xsyon? if so i hope to see you there.
