Poll - Have you gotten a refund for Mortal Online yet?

GobwarriorGobwarrior Member Posts: 11

With the release of Mortal Online at the end of this month, due to all the problems from the open beta, I would like to know the overall stats of how many people have gotten a refund.

Where is the not foolish enough to order it option?

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

What?  You guys were lucky you did not preorder back in the closed beta days.  You got to experience the game before buying it.

I love how you say have you got a refund YET.

    Its quite hilarious.

I have not and will not get a refund because I support indies, how else do you think sandboxes that you all keep begging for will get made, AAA's arent going to make them, so sometimes you gotta understand that a group of 20 devs is going to take time. I for one will support them for their vision and before you flame, I aint posting again, since this community is shockingly biast, and I am sure you wont objectively read my post, so I guess theres no point is there.

I tried to get a refund... . tried to cancel my preorder awhile ago.   I got no response at all.  I knew they said not liking beta was not a reason to cancel as much of the stuff in beta has "nothing to do at all" with the final release (does that even make sense?)

After waiting for a response from them through e-mail I sent them a message through pay-pal. . they did not respond.

I contested the charges through pay-pal.  They had 10 days to respond. . they did not.

Paypal found in my favour and they banned my account.

Money back - yes. .  refund - no.

I was saying the same thing until I tried to contact them.  Also when I realized that a community member made their patcher.

Getting your money back through paypal is still a "refund" in my eyes.

I entered refund in the poll. . but if someone steals your bike and the cops return it. . that is not the person returning it.

The money was taken from them by someone else and given back to me. . a refund to me is when they agree to give you the money back.

Semantics for sure.  I was just saying that I would have liked to have heard something from them.  My reasons for canceling had nothing to do with the state of the game.  I enjoyed the game a lot (until the de-sync issues).

But you still got your money back even though they would not respond to your emails.  I am glad you got your money back, I am trying to tell all my friends how to get a refund before the game launches as this is going to be a disaster...

Well SV was too busy to respond so that is an instant refund.  They said they will have dedicated support staff after launch.  They may contest the charges being reversed at that time...

If they did not respond to the dispute (like they did not with my credit card dispute) they have no way of reversing the charges to getting their money back.  It is their fault for not returning the customer's emails and it is their fault for not contacting the credit card companies and responding to the dispute.

They will not try to get their money back because they are the ones that did not respond to the disputes / charge backs.

Careful what you say about Mortal Online.   Ive been slapped with the banstick twice now by a mod who seems to be a fanboi of this game, for doing nothing more than speaking the truth here.

    This game is another MOURNING.

Anyone remember that game?  Its horrible preorders, its burned CDs shipped out as actual preordered copies.  Its failure to make a playable release?

Mortal Online was supposed to be out already. Folks had preordered on the good faith that this game would be released on or around date X.  The game isnt even past alpha stages.

The dev team here took advantage of frustrated Darkfall customers and promised what Darkfall failed to deliver.  The masses saw a new savior, and desperate many plunged money into the project.

    It was a scam.

I don't think it was a scam, they just have no experience developing anything previous to Mortal Online.  They do not have a strategy or a plan on what they are doing.  They are throwing stuff together hoping it works.  Example, just look at them not testing patches before releasing them, and they end up breaking more of the game than what they were trying to fix.

In criminal law negilgence is defined as whether willfully or not, engaging in actions that are contrary to another parties interests, as set forth in a contractual agreement.

To employ those who are incapable, fail to replace the incapable staff members in a timely manner, and fail to deliver said product to members who have been expecting it via the terms of their contracts amounts to nothing more than negligence.

The fact that the Mortal Online development team likely knew about these issues with their service, and continued to engage in misleading customers with statements like "all lag gone" etc implies a willful element to this negligence.

Willful Negligence = Lying to your contractual partners.  This is synonymous with scamming.

You talk as if you develope software, or games, as a living and know completely about what you're speaking of. The facts are, that more than 80% of you don't know what you're talking about. I'm a programmer myself, and the unfortunate fact of life is that programming in itself is a buggy process.

Logic is only prestine to a certain point. When objects start referring to other objects just to move ONE thing in real time space on the server things start getting complicated code wise. Almost every programmer knows that for every 1000 lines of code there is most likely going to be 20-40 bugs based on the quality of programmers that wrote said lines of code. In addition to the law of programming, Mortal Online's staff is VERY small trying to get a LOT done before launch. This is inevitably going to cause a lot of bugs to occur that normally might not in a AAA title.

Additionally, due to MO being an indie company (and not selling out to EA, Sony, etc etc ruining the game's future) their budget is VERY small compared to said AAA titles. They have, quite frankly, run out of money for development. They have two choices, to launch or to fold. Preferably, given the vision i've seen so far in-game, I hope they live prosperingly post-launch as they have shown quite a lot of promise for a AAA sandbox title.

I'm just rather disappointed in this community. We ALL have complained about the lack of Sandbox titles, and the illumination of greed within the MMO industry pumping out crap products just for the money. Yet, when a title finally comes out (from an indie company no less) more than half our community wants to burn it down because they're too small to cater to the AAA customer service we've all come to expect.
