PC upgrade or PS3 With HDTV?

I will prefer the PS3 version, and I recommend anyone who has a PS3 to go the same route.

For several reasons, with HDTV the graphics are excellent, the game will be tunned to play with gamepad (plus that small keyboard ofc), there are alot less bugs since there is no hardware variations from machine to machine, and we are set for years to come, I mean, if the game last for a decade all the expanions will be tunned for the PS3 hardware, wich means no aditional money ever to improve the machine.

PC version can become better over time with increased hardware, but that has ofc a cost, and besides, it will never be much better because the game must always be done with PS3 in mind.

My advice is stick with the PC as is, it should run the game as well or better than a ps3 anyway, so why fork out cash for something you don't really need... if you want bluray, just buy a bluray drive for your pc, it'll be cheaper than buying a player or a ps3.. though personally i dont see what all the hype is over bluray anyway.. at some point in the future, you might want to upgrade, but your system looks good enough to me...

IMO if you do anything just upgrade your OS and you should be fine with your current PC.  Plus you can always upgrade your video card in the future if you need.

I do own a PS3 and a nice PC myself. So another option is get the PS3 and upgrade PC as needed.

this question is a no brainer

    pc > pos3

Just think of how many free games you can play on your PC that you already own with it being upgraded and new ones coming out compared to the Pos3

I woudn't buy a console for the express purpose of playing a game that is already on the PC that will look better and sound better.

What people are still missing is that he doesn't even need a upgrade for the PC; his PC is strong.

Futhermore, the entire ps3 runs ps3 games w/o lag/low fps even more so mmos is not true. Just google ps3 fps etc. The last time i had an compatability issue with a pc was 7 year ago.

You can buy blue tooth /IR/microwave/cord controlers or use xbox or other options for controls if you want an inferior input format. I have a saitek that is literally the ps3 control + a flipable left stick and d-pad, which i use to play ps1-2 and nes/snes games with. And they don't cost much.

Overall the only thing , ONLY thing a ps3 offers that his computer will not is a blue ray drive.

PS cordless keyboards and mice are often quite large, i know one for my PVR/sweetasss HD gaming rig that on a 60" samsung HD LCD.  They are blue tooth which is so nice.

I have almost the exact same system (Win 7, 9800M GS, P8700, but OC'd to 2.7ghz) . Right now I think we'll be ok. 1920x1080 will be iffy though. I have a monitor that runs at that resolution and honestly I don't think FFXIV is going to cut it.

My laptop's monitor runs at 1600x1050 however and I think that should be fine. Running at max settings probably wont happen however. It'll just take some tweaking (less shadows, no aliasing, etc).

Upgrading to Windows 7 is highly highly recommended though. I'd do a free trial of Age of Conan and see how your system runs. That'd be a pretty good benchmark in my opinion.

Nah, don't think 1920x1080 will be possible. It certainly fills the minimum requirements of the alpha though, so it's not like you Have to upgrade to play it.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

my question then is, will my computer be able to compare to my ps3? clearly they each have different advantages, but will the ps3 be graphically superior by enough of a difference if I have a nice tv? Maybe its to early to ask this question, but im quite curious.

FFXIV will be very graphics intensive. so much that MS had to practically give SE money in order to pay to have the graphics scaled down so the 360 could run it.

If you have a PS3, use it. Otherwise you'd better have at least a quad core and a 4870 to reach what the cell can do when it's pushed 90%

And don't give me that 360 is just as good as PS3. Ya that's true when the game is using only a portion of the Cell. FFXIV is threaded to make use of all the Cell's processing engines.

It is a MMO so The best thing would be to run it on a PC with as much graphics and processing you can throw at it. Sure SE designed it with the PS3 in mind but unlike FFXI SE knew well in advance it would be on PC. So expect much better eye candy possible on PC. (5970 crossfire not included)

Well nobody can really answer this but yourself.  You should be able to run FFXIV on your PC on high settings.  If you want maximum settings, then perhaps there is a reason to upgrade.

It's all about what is important to you and what would be a good return on investment.  For me, I game more on PC than on console, plus I use my PC for many things, so a PC upgrade is always on my mind.

However, if you enjoy PS3 console exclusive games, like GoWIII etc then go with a new PS3.  Also, who wouldn't want a new HDTV, which can be enjoyed for more than just gaming?  But if you do get a PS3, and decide you would like to play FFXIV on the console, I would wait until release as there is almost certainly going to be a FFXIV / PS3 bundle available.

Will it run it , most likely.

Will you have to scale down some graphics and will you get some  fps drop most likely.

Your video card is the area lacking.

The cpu is strong , even more so if you OC.

ATm i have not heard if it utilizes quad core cpus (we can hope).

op! the comment about gear is irrelevant !let me give you an example!

i play guild wars this week-end!i get an fps of between 200 and 400 fps so my gear isnt an issue yet

like miccrosoft pointed out when they released donnybrook

me and everything else in the game teleport everywhere in the game thats a kind of bandwith lag

that only donnybrook or a similar techno can solve ,so i doubt your issue will be your computer but a brand spanking new network card from intel might help you a ton to get smooth  game tho.

i have a hard time recommending other company! intel went bezerk ,since they released direct cache access ,and

make them the brand of choice for gamer for almost everything they make!

so in the end if you really need to change your computer because of game?

    buy a ps3 or xbox if ff14 is on xbox!why xbox?one title:

    HALO REACH!
