I can't really answer that since I joined the joined the game a little over 2 weeks now. My impression is it could do with more population. Sometimes it can be a pain to pull a group together.

I for one am a little bored with it, waiting for my 1 month sub to end, not really much else to play

Between the grind and spending 3 hours in an instance where loot doesnt even always drop pretty much ended it for me. Aion was sold as a eastern mmo that had been converted to Western playstyle.. sadly it seemed only the first 25 levels were converted post 25 it became just like any other korean grind game.

My last friend just quit the game last week, the instance runs for hours with no loot and zergy as hell pvp finally did him in.

Ive played Aion since launch and it has good and bad points.  Its a solid game that lacks in certain areas, some mentioned here already.  Some of the points made here are also fixed in 1.9 which is a patch coming out in a couple months such as improved drop rates, more bonus XP, etc.  .  As for populations, yeah Aion has lost people since launch(all the people I started the game with have left) but it has a solid core group of players still and is still getting many new ones.  If you use Xfire as a general guide on how a game is doing Aion holds strong between 6th and 10th place and has been that way for months although that isnt just NA.  Aion is not WOW so if you are looking for something similar, it wont be the game you want :)

Not that it matters much, but Aion's Xfire rating has been hovering at +9 to +11 for the pass month.   +11 for a weekend is not so good as in weeks before it would peak at +9.  So the terms don't seem so good for Aion atm.

Plus, Aion being a Korean-based game, they will get the updates first.  So NA players have to wait months to translate, test, and adapt Updates.

Aion will be a decent game for its core-base players.  Aion is not for the masses like WoW is.

I was there from launch too and was the last holdout before quitting as my friends did before me.   It just got way too boring to continue  paying for something that was dull to play.

I completely agree with the above poster, i to was there from the beta to about feb 20th. The realization that the NA team doesn't really make any content besides localize all of the Korean content and the fact that it was extremely boring at end game just let me quit a lot easier, its my fault though i should have kept my expectations in check.

    Nothing has changed since launch

Like the above poster said nothing has changed since the release! Even Everquest 2 has had more changes than Aion in the past 6 months and Everquest 2 is a 6 year old game.

Needless to say the Aion developers are lazy, this is my last NC Soft game they obv suck ass at MMOs.

Aion has lost more subscribers then it gained I would surmise; however the population on my server seems to be fairly constant. Burnt out level 50's quit, and new players fill their void. As for loot drops, dungeon times etc they are the same as launch and frankly I don't have any issues with that.  I like rare equipment to be rare, thats personal though.

Aion is a tough game to play mentally, and requires a significant attention span to play due to the heavy grinding (albeit fun still for me) and the heavy travelling and death penalties.

I have been playing with my Wife and Son for the last 6 months, and would not recommend this game to anyone who are M&S or not semi/fully elitist type personality.

     Love you long time!

Its obvious that some people just want to post someting weather its the truth or not.  The truth is that Aion lost subs just like any other new MMO.  They have made changes to gameplay such as reduced death penalty, double exp weekends, flying pets, increased exp and continues the war on RTMs.  They have released info on the new patch (1.9) and it has al ot of people excited.  They plan on increasing exp gain, increasing loot percentages, improving LFG function, and many other thins you can check  out on their website.

To answer your question, even though it was kinda vague, the game change slighty but is still not everyones favorite game.  Not sure if its become more popular but some servers have thinned out.  I doubt this is a sign of the game state...its just what happens in new games.  From a person perspective that likes the game, most issues that effect the fun value of the game are being address in the new patch (imo).

Thanks for the answers everyone! cept for the guy who said nothing has changed....

    Cheers

I agree that the "Nothing has changed" answer was a really vague statement, but your reply was nothing more than the standard patch fare (Not new content) right down to the exp boast, which in my opinion was increased because they realized how unhappy people were over there scheme to get you to sub more month's just to get maybe 1-2 alts at max level.

Personally, the biggest problem I have with Aion is the lack of being able to be different.

All of your skills are purchased from the class trainer and each class gets the same exact skills. There are no abilities or ability points, there are stigmas, but again, everyone gets the same ones for the most part so your character is never unique in abilities. In fact you have almost no control over what skills you have, or over your own statistics.

Example: Every rogue type class has the same skills and does the same damage as every other character of the same class. The only difference is in the gear and the way you have changed that gear with manastones. (Very little difference)

The graphics of course are very nice, but the game play is just dull, quest voiceovers (where they exist) are pretty comical at best, and there are alot of gaps in the quest lines where you have to mindlessly grind to get a couple of levels before you can continue on.

This game would be good for kids if there were not alot of vulgar people talking trash, and there is no naming restrictions at all from what I can tell. Really bad names like "Fukamypusy" and "Sukmehard". These are a couple of names I saw on the "Unofficial" RP server, Lumiel.

One other issue I had with the game was the Armor styles. A couple of times, my male character was forced to wear armor that was distinctly designed for women, with frilly lace arm length gloves, low neckline, and large breast cups. The stats on the armor were way better than anything else I could wear at those levels so I had to either wear it and look like a cross dresser or not wear it and have crappy stats. Now at level 30 you can change the look of the armor to look like something else, but I never made it that high in level, I lost interest in the game at level 20 due to the boredom and the lack of being able to be different from anyone else.

Before the Korean version changed they had in place 1)Anyone could wear any armor type 2) Anyone could equip any stigma stone 3)Flight was restricted but had a lot of more un-restrcited areas (Although i believe they said that they are going to introduce more un-restected flight areas) the first 2 were removed because they said that mages wearing and equiping any armor & stigma stone was very unbalancing in the alpha version. They should have kept the mechanic but did like DragonAge did and give you fatigue for the more heavier armor you wear so that if a mage wanted to equip plate armor then there magic would get chewed up very fast over cloth or leather. I agree that in the end everyone will pretty much be the same besides people's individual stigma choices, but for now until every single person in the games population hits level cap there will always be lowbies to gank in the abyss and player groups to join together and nuke higher ups.

Good choice. That's what I would recommend.

I'm usually a hardcore player, but I seem to enjoy Aion more as a casual player and go on my own pace, instead of racing to get to 50.

Its the NCsoft job to listen to the customer and change things to make the player happy.  They will only know that by players voicing their opinions.  Its silly to think a game will come out and be perfect.  There will always be improvements to make and patches.  I agree with the OP you should wait for the patch it will tailor the game more for westerners than in its current state.

Saying Aion is another asian mmo is just so wrong.  Last time I played the Chinese servers they were all empty so even the chinese didnt want to put up with this boring game.  Its more like another boring Korean mmo and notice they dont brag about their sub anymore lol.  Hell even Aika is more fun and its free to play.

God, if that's empty to you...  I don't even want to play on a populated server.

I have no idea if botting is still crazy rampant (PvP was a complete joke because you had lvl50s popping up everywhere as all the "top guilds" had all their members botting like crazy right next to the gold farmers), but the biggest issue and the primary reason I left was that the Abyss has issues. Numerous ones. Besides the "lower bound" issue with flying where if you drop below a certain point you just die instantly leading to tons of cheap deaths flying from island to island, the abyss itself really isn't that interesting. Artifacts are weak, and can get rolled by a single group and really are not something that gets "fought over" rather than something that simply changes hands every six seconds. Fortress raids are ok, but have two big issues. First, the client sucks, and generally fortress raids will either crash the client or slow it down so incredibly that the defense ends up bailing out anyway because they can't even get within range of the enemy to mount a defense without lagging out/crashing. Secondly, they get boring quickly. You end up rolling the same keeps over and over again, and there isn't really much to do with them at all. They don't do much to the territory, they don't let you upgrade/maintain the keep if you take it, and in general there is little reason to have the keep besides saying "it's mine". Yeah, there is a crappy instance associated with them, but grinding the same instance over and over isn't exactly fun or deep content. In the end you end up just saying "why bother" because the only actually effects the keeps have is they allow an excuse for people to battle it out for abyss points/medals.

IF we ever saw the kind of dynamic content shown in the "visions" trailer, I could see the game being interesting. But honestly, that kind of feature depth should be something MMOs launch with, not patch in two years down the line. As it stands, the Visions trailer is just a marketing gimmick that was thrown out to get some last minute resubs before their quarterly numbers were reported. Thats another thing, Aion has some really lame marketing crap going on. The item bundle selling and various other things are just lame in general.

Basically, it's a very shiny game, but flaws abound that keep it from being engaging or interesting to play in the long term.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

    Awaiting 1.9 patch

Double xp weekends + other fun stuff

Personally I think it's staying the same, for every person that quits another seems to join.  and with 1.9 coming out soon I'm sure more people will come back.

Just about no bots now, or atleast none that I ever see. It's quite enjoyable, don't just listin to the haters here. :P

As usual ppl want the skillz without putting in the effort. So they moan, come on mmorpg, slag it off, trying to get ppl to avoid it and go play the game they say is good.

Aion still has great population, some servers better than others. But they are working on server transfers.

AS with every new MMO the community want it all now!. The games still only 6 months old. NC are always going to be working on new content and updates + giving us the double xp wkends to boost are lvling.

Aions kinda like marmite, you either love it or hate it i suppose. This goes for every post and the mmorpg community. Stop being such emo haters, make constructive posts and give dignified feedback to ppls questions. At teh moment this forum is not really trusted dew its its flame threads all the time. Lets change that shall we.

As I can see that Aion is still rating as 7.77 by so far. Don't think the rating will go up or down in the future. However, imo a good game should have least 8.0+
