I would re-sub today if they fixed the horrible character animation and done something with the stupid hair styles. Honestly the way it is now is disgusting.

I actually recently stopped my subscription again to Lotro (my wife has lifetime) mainly due to time constraints and other games to try. The game does things well on the whole but the animations/models do come across like half an attempt (like one of those flick books where something moves as you flick the page). I went through the expansion at what I thought was normal pace and it was over before I knew it. I did enjoy it apart from a few bugs, nothing groundbreaking though. I will try again in the summer and see if things have picked up at all. Biggest issue was with the PVP and the bugs in Monster Play + server instability.

Open the Options and choose the Combat Options section.
Scroll down to the bottom and check "Play Optional Combat Animations" and "Allow Combat Animation Blending."
If those options don't improve animations, make sure your FPS isn't so crappy that it makes the entire game choppy. If it's fine and you just don't like the animations period, I can't help you there.
I agree with the hairstyles, to an extent, especially for hobbits. But, really, they have helmets in the game for a reason.

what is horrible about the animation?
Ha-ha.
Well first you have the character itself, it is really strange and out of proportion, like some jelly legged alien, then when they add the animation it becomes comical. I do not know who is responsible for the animation or what it is they are smoking but they need sacking along with the one who makes the helms and hair.
Its a shame because the game itself is pretty good.
my main sticking point with LOTRO has always been content. It always seemed like the game was designed for rather casual players in mind. Nothing wrong with that mind you, but for those like myself with a bit more of a gaming addiction, who have canceled our subs to real life need a bit more meat on the bone to keep us entertained.
That being said the skirmish system looks damn cool and keeps trying to suck me into subbing again.
have tried getting into LOTRO a few times now, and while the graphics do look a bit dated, their not really that bad that the game is unplayable, my only real issue with the game was the lack of players, specifically the ability to join groups, it meant that a lot of the content just wasnt doable, and as im not a fan of solo games i just gave up..

Any game that has been out for more than a year will have a disproportionate number of high end players. Ever here if this thing called guilds? Or in LoTRO kinships? Plenty of people in my Silverlode kinship and we most all have toons from lvl 10 on up to 65 and are glad to help new players in our kinship.

I agree with the helms and hair, but the character animation never really botherd me all that much...
people do look a little top heavy...but meh it is a great game.
I would resub again if they would add actual content rather than repeatable instances that get boring quickly(skirmishes) and gear gated content that has had the community up in arms since MoM.
Oh wait I'm a lifer, so I'm already subbed.
Ok, well the things I mentioned above would make me a very happy player again.
Overall though, LOTRO is an excellent game and easily one of the best out right now.
Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst!
I would resub today if they made it so two-handed weapons and cloaks didn't do that thing they do where they go through each other at least let me carry my drawn weapn or something, let hunters wield staves, not let swords and such just stab through the mounts. There's more I've just forgotten it since I haven't played in awhile. But yeah less skirmishes more standard quest content in the future.

Changing the housing would be a good start. Put housing in the cities and towns instead of out in the suburbs. Make it affordable for all levels. The model to emulate would be EQ2's.

you can buy a small house for 1g which is not mcuh at all.

There are other games that have clipping issues as well which begs the question "why?"
When i loaded up fable I noticed that all of my gear fit and nothing clipped into anything else. It was an odd sensation as gear in mmorpg's can sometimes clip and sometimes clip badly.
does anyone know the reason?
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I would re sub today if they made the combat a bit tougher, I only played up til level 20 but it was super easy and that takes away the suspense of the game

I think over 80% of Gamers in general will agree with you on the animation in LOTRO. It is a game breaking feature that Turbine is simply not adressing at all. I simply do not understand why they dont do something about it - cause it is litterally keeping hundred of thousands of ppl - even millions - from enjoying LOTRO.
The biggest fantasy IP in the world has some of the worst animations seen in any P2P MMO (remember DDO is now F2P). Why ?
I agree, the character models & animations need an overhaul. Go to the official forums and post your opinions on them! Turbine actually listens unlike alot of other development studios.

Is This game for people that like graphics more than game play ?
I think ppl are talking about balance when it comes to those thing. Not to mention that graphics and animations are not nessiserily the same thing. I dont think anyone will deny LOTRO to have a beutiful rendered world. But that doesn't make for a great gameplay when the animation of the characters that run in that world - simply dont seem to fit into it.
The main reason why I dont like LOTRO is because of the freaking sound you hear when you fall down from any heights... I broke my arm few years ago and this sound gives me the creep every freaking time....

You seems to forget that you need to be a paying custimor to be allowed to post on those forums.
Maybe you could go link this topic in there for us ? I promise you that over 50% of every gamer that tried LOTRO but then didn't actually buy the game - did so because of the poor aniamtions and character looks.
And I did send Turbine a post about this when I tried LOTRO the first time.... and the second time... and the third time... Its something I simply can not look past in a modern high quality MMO game. Not to mention if ppl are playing it for months or years.

My thought is that they just don't have a person who can.
I have always disliked the DDO avatars and my dislike goes to the LOTRO avatars as well.
They have people on staff who just have a certain style or are limited in their abilites.
They recently redid the hobbit running animation. And though I think it's better it's still not great.

As some of you may know I have posted before that I played lotro as a CBT and in OBT, I also played all the way up to SOM release and was heavly involved on the Isenguard test server for a time.
The reason I left and why I dont log onto my life time account currently is the lack of content.
During orginal SoA there was a huge ammount of content added with patches and it was enough to keep you entertained, when MoM came out there was a little more content but not the same as SoA. I decicded to quit after testing SoM for a few months and realising much content we would not be getting.
Dont get me wrong I love the game, I personally think its one of the best games on the market, it seems to have everything right (expect PvP of course :P) however I was burnt out I guess, I had the full Helegrod set, Rift set, Watcher set & DN set, with my guild achieving server 2 - 3 on all full clears and world 1 - 5 on clears.
I guess there was not enough content to satify my more full on playstyle, and the skirmish system just does not do it for me at all
I really hope the next Xpac will bring me back. Thank god for lifetime accounts

The helms look worse than the hair. Whoever is responsible for making the helms for the game should be fired.

Or, if metal is not your fancy, perhaps something like this:
If Mario wears it, you know it's good.
