If you want a game which looks lovely struggles to play on everything but highest end machines and has GM's that are both uninterested and unskilled then this is the game for you.
this is absolutely false. dont know much about the game's support, i just joined the trial. but the game runs at 30-40fps all high settings, highest res, on my LAPTOP. about the same as Global Agenda, which was built on a UT3 engine.
rofl, what a comparison! Try playing an involved 6-man like Xibaluku, do a 25 man raid, go on a siege, and then talk about those 30-40 fps. Staring at a wall in Tortage gives my 6-year old PC 40 fps too, you know...
AoC in massive encounters is by far one of the most demanding PC games on the market, and I'm not limiting this to just MMOs.
As I am getting warnings for writing stuff tha Funcom has revieled about the game months ago I will just copy the link to the 1hour liveshowing of some of the upp comming expantion. The firste 5min ore sow are just boring.

Krewel they fixed that a lot, major problem now is server side lag aka red ping/latency.
One year ago I usually had 20 FPS during the siege and now I have 50 to 60 using exactly the same setting and same hardware.
As for gfx lag AoC did improve really a lot, last year I could not imagine playing with having shader 3 and everythign on high including shadows on ultra and now I have that, the only thing that i have on low are particles.
p.s. Last year people with decent PC's could play normaly, this year you can have uber machince and you will still have server side lag ( note: thats only on overpopulated Fury EU, other server seems dont have that shit )
Worked exactly the same last time I tried it (like shit). Did FC magically optimize their engine? How? They never stated that (I'm sure they would boast about it), they only added some dx10 functionality, which is still in test mode. Only thing that was noticable for me was the end of memory leaks (now that was some annoying shit).

The optimization often appears on the test server postings and lists, quite a bit has been done over the past half a year. Engine has improved quite a bit.
This whole "You need a NASA computer to play AoC" argument is becoming moot if it's hasn't already.
What, it's been like 2 years since AoC was released? Technology has progressed considerably since then (especially considering how relatively cheap and accessible decent graphic cards have become) and that doesn't fly anymore as a negative point against AoC. I mean, look at other MMOs at the horizon with their target-less combat mechanics, full physics, etc, which are gonna make your computer cry bloody tears... seriously, you (general, no one specific here) really oughta upgrade your PC eventually or just say goodbye to gaming.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
I can't understand how anyone could have problems running the game now.
Unless your system is an ancient clunker the game should run absolutely fine, I play on max settings with a cheap factory built PC and I get blazing fast framerates everywhere other than OT.
The game performance is fantastic these days and anyone who says otherwise clearly needs an upgrade badly.

They have had some improvements, I now run the game perfectly although the cities are a strain on my system I run AoC with 30-70 fps everything on high (DX9) with a medium game system.
It may not be AoC thats the problem because if you don't have a computer that can run it Funcom isn't going to fix that for you.

Well said. Maybe those people are just looking at launch experiences only as all they have to go off.
As most people know when you fire up Fraps to record the game you are playing you typically loose about 10-20FPS whilst recording. Today I can record and record at the FPS I got at launch when not even recording. Some great improvement from the coders forsure.
As an average gamer, with just an average computer (yes I need an updated graphics card) I can see both sides of the FPS problem.
First, yes Funcom optimized their engine or did something as I couldn't play at all back in May and now I can.
Graphics. I didn't get into AoC until Dec last year, so I've no clue how launch was. What I do know and others probably too, is that while I can run LotRO, DDO, SWG, PotBS on HIGH graphics settings, I have to run AoC on default LOW setting to get a playable FPS (and once again, yes it is on my end and could be fixed with a new graphics card - and maybe once I pay off these darn taxes, get the 2 boys (1 teenager) out of the house and the car paid off - I'll have some spare money to do that.
Being able to play other MMO's on HIGH settings and AoC only on LOW is why a number of us say, AoC requires a more powerful computer than other games. AoC can be the greatest thing since sliced bread and LotRO a distant second, but if I have to buy new computer parts or even a whole new computer for it, whereas I can run and play LotRO on what I currently have ..... well than, AoC probably won't get bought and played. Simple as that.
Well I've been playing for a couple of weeks now and I'm really enjoying it I am still finding playing a healer takes a bit of getting used to as its very different from other MMOs I've played (too many to mention), but I'm gonna stick with it I am now level 65 so if there are any other level 65ish players on Crom EU put your message in this thread and I'll add you to my friends list when I'm next on
I started in Thunder River last night and did a few quests there, but I guess I prefer the look of the snowy mountainous Ymir's pass so I think I'll head to Atzel's Approach when I'm next on. I actually went and picked up a tradeskill for the first time as before I didnt bother with crafting as I was told it was just a timesink and pretty uselss, but now I've experienced it I disagree. I can now make level 60 potions and armor
I am just telling the truth if you want to deceive new players go ahead guys knock yourselfs out.
No, you are expressing a personal opinion formed solely on your own experiences with the performance. None of us are trying to deceive anyone, quite the opposite actually.
The other posters who are refuting your argument (myself included) are basing our opinions on our own experiences which are for the most part extremely positive, which leads us to believe that it must be specific users systems that are the cause of the problem - not the game itself.
If performance as a whole was poor then it would be more than just a select few that are having issues with the games performance, but considing that we are not, it seems to be your system that is causing the issues.

Lvl 34 Stygian ranger - Set server.
SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

I dont have a low end P.C and have played this game recently so most of the fanboy stuff is unmerited
Be sure to relish the experience, cuz, as you know, there can be only one second time.
