How stupid is it that you actually have to pay more money ($4.99) for basically just an update? Anyone agree with me on this one here..or correct me if i'm wrong.
There are two kinds of people in this world. People who pick their nose.. and liars.
I agree it's kinda stupid. At least we don't have to buy it though. I think those who don't purchase it won't be missing out on any big part of the game. At least they kept it at $5.00. Anything higher would have been really bad.
i dont see what the big problem with this is. its not just another update, as we DO get FREE updates almost DAILY which have several times had new zones/content/equipment. this is a big update. it has several new zones packed with lore and content and some new items. im very much willing to pay $5 for it.
Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT
$5 is pretty freakin cheap. I've paid more than that for one drink at a bar....more times than I would care to count up. This game will have been out roughly 5 months when this thing hits. And I personally am glad to see a gradual increase in game size and add-ons instead of the huge jumps like expansions bring. I remember all the expansions I bought for EQ1 and there are so many that had like...30 new zones and I went to like...3 of them. What a waste.
If you think it is stupid, don't buy it. I'm not buying it yet. I don't see any reason too, I haven't touched everything that is in the game now.

I agree. Five bucks isn't that much money for a very large update. I've seen full priced expansions to other games that have added less.
No, I have some legitamate issues with the game but this isn't one of them.
I agree with what someone said earlier in another thread. With these relatively inexpensive updates, gamers are getting small doses of content on the scale of what are usually included in expansion packs. That way, they can focus on more original and innovative things to do with the actual official expansions.
personally i think its well worth it, if they were trying to rip you off they wouldnt be giving you the other extra zones or patches, fixes, or anything and make you pay for those. with this you get extra zones more quests and equipment, for 5 bucks. 5 bucks is nothing, you pay more for a friggin haircut, or alchohol, or cigarettes, or a movie. 5 dollars is definately not a ripoff in any way, shape, or form. {/rant off}
EQ2 is a much better game now than it was at launch and it will only get better with cheap adventure packs. Rip off? £3.50 for a mini add on which you DONT have to buy and includes neat stuff like hellhounds and vampires. It is the bargain of the year.
Remember this as you continue to pay and pay for things like this. And saying at least they patch and fix things each week for free. Well, God love you.... (pats you on the head. Go play now.....)
Fair enough to all the things you've said. The way I see it though...If its small enough to only cost $5 might as well make it free...I don't really think they need the money. To me this just proves sony is about the money and not the game...but I get what you guys are saying.

Sorry, you're wrong on this one. Anything worth having is worth paying for. The amount of coding that went into that expansion pack dwarfs any $5 bill. Only due to market mechanics (i.e., dividing costs by number of consumers) can we experience miracles like this for so little coin.
If EQ2 could up its game a bit, heck I'd even pay $25 per month to play it. For now, waiting and watching for signs of change..
Considering there has been quite a bit of free content added in between time. I dont have a problem with $5 (even though its like $8 for me - Australian). Lets face it if they do 8-10 $5 updates in say 18 months then thats only the same as it was with paying $40 for Realms of Kunark etc...
Its all good

SoE isnt forcing this upon the masses. If NO_ONE buys it then they lose lots of mullah. You get parts of it already you only fork out for the meaty bits. Don't make out this is some kind of necessary expensive expansive pack a la Everquest because it isn't. Anyway we all know God is actually a vulcan.
I think it is worth it overall. This seems pretty similar to what Guild Wars will be doing except they will not be pay to play on a monthly basis but will be introducing content upgrades/expansions for a fee. On the same principal those who choose not to buy the content upgrade will not have gameplay affected "except" they will not have access to the new areas, items, spells, skills which were specific to that expansion.
I think it was put out last month that SOE would be introducing approximately 4 of these $ 5.00 downloads per year and up to 2 major expansions. In that respect someone who chooses not to download or partake in the upgrades/expanisons may be missing out on a huge portion of what the game will be 12 months down the road.

Well, The way I see it i'm already paying 15 bucks a month. That should just about cover it. Notice i'm not saying "Sorry, you're wrong on this one" because I accept peoples opinions and don't just straight up say you're wrong.

You're entitled to think what you want about it. Here are the facts.
It's $5.00. Most people work less than 20 minutes at their job to make that kind of cash.
You can test it out. The first area is open to all players for free. If you like the quests and want to go further, then you can pay.
It has new features. There are items specific to this area, and you can break down hidden walls in dungeons among other things. It's not just a plain old content update.
SOE has already provided content updates for free, and they have stated that they intend to continue doing so.
If you want to pay expansion prices ($20 or 30) every time an expansion is released for questionable content (ie: Can't test it out), then you go right ahead and play some other game. Personally, I like this approach, and SOE has treated their customers very well in EQ2 so far. Especially compared to what I have put up with in the past.

This is where you're missing something. In EQ2 we get EVERYTHING any other MMO gives you for $15 a month. We get the patches and some additional content just like in every other MMO. On top of all that we get additional content that we have the option to buy. EQ2 is giving us more than any other mmo has in the past, but you have to pay for the extra stuff. This goes to the cost of the extra developers it takes to make all the added stuff.
To the people that think SOE is just "all about the money" I pay $5.50 to play EQ2 a month, how much do you pay to play your favorite MMO?
LOL God is a Vulcan. Man, I am in deep trebble-dung....
Anyway, I hope I am wrong about all of the additional costs coming your way to fully play this game. I hope to return, but I see no reason to as of yet. I have my eye on it, and if there is a true "coming to Spock", I will return happily. I will not hold my breath.....

I believe you just convinced me my friend...It's not a rip off you're right. Allthough I think you all have to agree with me on that if it was free it would be cool
There are two kinds of people in this world. People who pick their nose.. and liars.
It would be awesome if it was free, but, it's not. I've been snooping about the bloodline chronicle website and i have to say it looks pretty cool. And for 5 bucks it really doesnt seem like a rip-off.
One thing I have to say is SOE is putting some work into this game. It makes it more worth your money when they add and fix stuff on a consistent basis. Thumbs up to SOE thus far.

Agreed. Go ahead and bait SOE into making this common place. Any game that offers this "Service" gets classfied in the NFG category. How long until they start charging for each indepedant feature / fix/ update / tweak?
Give these guys and inch, especially SOE, and they will take a mile. I'm just suprised they haven't sold out and did "advanced character creation" like they do in UO.

So the 1100 quests and 5 new zones they have added for free since release, and the Mentoring feature, all the bug fixes, and all those new spells we got for free... those were just an illusion?
You, quite simply, have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
This Adventure pack has been put together very well, and it is worth the $5.00 if you have time to play it. If not, then it's good they didn't charge more for the game from the outset, because you don't have to buy it if you don't like it after trying out the free areas. Keeps the overall cost of the game down, and offers content to those who want it/have time for it.
Choice is what customers want. That's what we're getting. Several surveys over the course of EQ1 and the development of EQ2 has led to these market strategies. SOE is trying to make a compelling game for everyone to play and they're going to charge people as much as they reasonably can for it just like every other game company.
Stop pretending other MMO companies somehow have less of a profit-oriented business model. It doesn't fool anyone who knows anything about economics. If you think $5 for extra content and quests and items every 3 or 4 months is too much to ask, then you need to get off these messageboards and get a real job. The fact is it takes me less than 15 minutes at work to make that much, and I'm willing to muck in with everyone else to play another 20 hours of game content.
Find me an arcade where I can go pay .25c and play for an hour or more and save my game when I'm done and come back later, or quit complaining about Bloodlines customers getting ripped off.

Wow...just this morning, they added 2 new dungeons...for free. One for solo play and one for high level raiding. No charge aside from my monthly fee. Can't say that I feel ripped off by THAT!
No one said that SOE is not trying to fix the game and add content. They are. And no, you should not feel "ripped off" as they do this, of course.
However, some of us has seen this again and again from this company. Sheesh, wasn't ording pizza in game enough to show you that there is a difference between a company making a profit, and one that is selling out? If not, great. You are playing the right game. And the expansions are a-coming, so start saving.
Most gamers are not playing this game and these are some of the reasons why. The numbers speak volumes, and time will certainly tell as well.
And for the poster claiming that anyone that does not aree with him that this is a good thing "has absolutely no idea what they are talking about", it is comments like that that only hurt yourself. But you will never believe me.
Bottom line, I would hope you would consider things being offered as insight, not just try to defend them. If you want watch SOE crap in a cone and tell you to call it ice cream, good for you.

yes, they should be free, i like EQ2, but i've never seen so many money making attempts in a game. nope, never. SOE could probably buy the moon, the sun, and probably a few other stars. and still, i wonder how many people are going to buy into these? i think they'll eventually start making them free and include them with the updates they ALREADY do. this is just me, however.
