soe taking a stab at bliz?

NihilanthNihilanth Member Posts: 1,357

now im NOT trying to start a flame thread here, but i kinda thought it was interesting reading this today:

the strangest part is the 2nd to last sentence:

"Today, Sony Online Entertainment would like to invite players from any game that may be experiencing lines to log in to their servers, a lack of customer service attention, or a lack of new, free game content, to play the EverQuest II Trial of the Isle demo"

i actually kinda thought it was pretty funny, not the whole stab at bliz thing, but the whole concept in general

Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II

That's flamebait if ever I've seen it (what SOE wrote... not you Nihilanth).
To be fair, they are making some good points. 1100 quests added since launch?! That's amazing. I certainly wouldn't say they are lieing but that's actually kinda hard to believe.

Today, Sony Online Entertainment would like to invite players from any game that may be experiencing lines to log in to their servers, a lack of customer service attention, or a lack of new, free game content, to play the EverQuest II Trial of the Isle demo -- We think they'll agree that EverQuest II is a fun, engaging experience that players have to see to believe.

WOW (no pun intended), that is the probably one of the funniest things i have ever seen...that will keep me entertained for a while.

Hehe, thats funny ;) Someone got a sense of humor and/or did get pissed of while playing wow :p

I bet they *hope* that thing is posted on some wow-related forum. No matter how hard its flamed its going to net customers for them ;) Like the /pizza command :p

Fail to see any mention of Blizzard, SoE wouldn't do that anyway. What they say could apply to any mmorpg which is their intention. Stop thinking World of Warcraft and Everquest 2 are the only games on the market.

They may hold the biggest share of the pie at the moment and have larger marketing departments, but to not look at other mmorpgs is to miss out on some innovative ideas.

In a years time when people get bored with WoW, unless they raise the level cap which they claim they will do and others will tire of paying $5 for content that you still can't do solo in EQ2 then gamers eyes will turn to Vanguard, Dark and Light.

After all BOTH games have generated a great deal of new interest in the mmorpg genre.

I gotta agree, I can't think of another game that I have played that has a queue to get into gameplay after login.

Maybe but I can think of a LOT more mmogs that "lack customer service attention, or lack new, free game content"

  • firemagicfiremagic Member Posts: 878

SOE are using WoW's "weak" points (lack of new content, lack of communication, server queues and downtime) to bolster their own game's image, and good luck to them. Hopefully Blizzard will take strides to improve in those areas, as SOE are taking strides to improve the flaws in their own product (by increasing solo content as one example).

Competition in business is always a good thing for the consumer.

  • JodokaiJodokai Member Posts: 1,621

Absolutely, this can only help improve both games.

Its about time some 1 took a freakin stab at Bliz. Ive played WoW for 2 freakin months and the severs are still unstable and the have been no additional content added to the game since release. Im not sure exactly what im pay a monthly fee for in this game since it doesnt appear to be getting improved. In 4 months i wont suprised to see WoW with under 180 k players.image

I find it funny how it's always WoW vs. EQII but never WoW vs. some other game or EQII vs. some other game.

Blizzard and SOE know that their games are direct competitors with each other and that all others are either appealing to a different audience or are too insignificant to pay any heed to.

Unfortunately, I wish that SOE would stop trying to make EQII more like WoW. There's a reason why I'm playing EQII instead of WoW, I'd hate for this game to turn into the reason why I left the other one.

  • StridarStridar Member UncommonPosts: 134

Well it is a bit misleading though. WoW did have god awfull server problems,  but I haven't waited in que now for a few weeks on the 2nd most populated server.  Also EQ had worse sever problems for a long time before they got them ironed out.  Oh how ye forget SOE.

Also the thing about the quest being added.  So what, WoW already had that many + some at release.  EQ2 was lacking.

Now I'm not trying to be a WoW fanboy or take up for them.  Just posting how I see it.  But to be honest I just canceled my WoW account after being 60 for months and nothing but the same thing to do over and over.

The flaming between the two big names, both on the forums as well as elsewhere is kind of a natural occurance. It's definatlely not unique to games, just look at cell phone companies and ISP's. On the new content note, I am definately impressed at what SOE is doing. I don't know about this $5 adventure pack buisiness, but that aside I'm glad they are trying to improve their product. Oh well, before I start bashing or flaming as well I'll stop.

Not really. Think SOE have to many “hidden” quest, when Blizzard give them to all. SOE was having more that was WoW final in EQ2 Beta. Just most of them you will never found. Like Scrimshaw Token at Isle of Refuge.
  • Ranma13Ranma13 Member Posts: 747

I personally prefer the hidden quests. I enjoy killing an enemy, having it drop a chest and wondering what an item does, and when I examine it I get a new quest. It adds to that exploration feeling, like you've gone somewhere and done something. Besides, there's enough unhidden ones that you don't ever have to do a hidden one just go advance in the game.

Well if SOE are advertising with better customer service, free game content, and more content then they are lying their arses of. The fun thing is that they are inviting peeps to play the Trial of the Isle demo which is not representable for EQ2 at all.

Refugee Isle is heaven compared to the rest of the game content, bugs, crap you experience when you leave the Island.

    Soe makes me laugh

and you obviously need to buy a clue, or actually try playing the game since you apparently haven't.

Come on man, EQ2 lacking in quests? Please EQ2 may not be perfect but lack of quests is not one of the problems.
  • ScarisScaris Member UncommonPosts: 5,332

I saw that one about it not having quests and just didn't even bother, it would be like shouting at the deaf trying to reason with someone that beleives that.

haha sorry to be an annoyance for you. I bought EQ2 at release and played from day 1. I played a cleric to level 29, chanter to 16 and a ratonga scout to 16 as well. Then I got fed up doing the same quests all again. I was a part of a guild called (cant remember) which had around 40 or so active members. Guess who was the last? Well dont it was me, in the end I was the only one that had logged on during the last 7 days or so.

    Customer service = Laughable
Feedback from Soe = Non excisting
Free content? = did I miss something? Never seen any

And dont tell me that you feel the Isle is the same game as the rest of the levels? Give me a break, the Isle is waaay to easy solo. So people are thinking "damn this game is great, I can solo in between groups".

    Well think again hehe

Not everyone has a great memory hashman. I've played just about every MMO available to date. Some of them i've been in multiple guilds while playing. I could probably only name 2 or 3 of the guilds I was in at most. Hell I quit WoW in Jan'05 and couldn't tell you name of guild I was in. Quit EQ2 in Dec'04 and couldn't tell you name of guild I was in. Quit FFXI in September and could probably name 1 out of the 6 or 7 Linkshells I was in. Why? Because the name was kind of catchy and I hated the chick that ran it. I hope Witchy has a terrible accident. Stupidest damn RedMage in the history FFXI. *takes deep breath* Ok done now. ::::07::
