Keep it clean and there is no right or wrong answer here. Have fun !
1. Mounts - Yeah they look cool but I prefer fast travel or map travel as many would call it. Taking an hour to get from point A to point B is annoying and really old school of thought.
2. Fedex quests - Can we be more original please ?
3. Why does everything have to be so tedious ? Is it to stretch that almighty monthly fee ? Real life is tedious enough, mmo games that we should enjoy should not be that way.
4. If you are copying someone else games just fold up camp right now because times are different now. We do not need anymore Everquest clones.
5. The hold trinity of mmos needs to be broken. We don't need dedicated healers and tanks anymore. The tank and spank concept needs to be changed.

Races- almost every game: Human, Dwarf, Elf, Orc, [Insert midget type here],
Past: Can never go back to Wow.
Present: Nothing interesting out.
Future: Looking forward to GW2.
Depends per MMORPG to be honest, but i'll give it a spin. This is not a post for MMO's in general but, the majority I played.
- Crafting: I want to craft in every MMO, but most of them have a weird (read, boring/timesink) system for it.
- PVP: For some reason (balance issues mainly) this is always an issue.
- Story: Obvious for most MMORPG's. A lot of times when I say that to someone, he/she will say: then you should read the quest/background/whatever. I know, but they could implement it a bit better.
- Costumization: Never you have your character 100% to your taste.
Well, these are things that are generally lacking in my opinion.
@ OP: I actually like classes. They could come up with something new, bt it's not really a downer for me.
But most RPG players enjoy immersive worlds. What's the point of making a big open world if you can just teleport around the whole thing, giving no value to losing a fight, or exploring.
Also, the copying has gotten real old. Sadly, WoW proved you can became insanely successful with absolutely NO innovation, you just have to keep making things more dumbed down until you strike gold.
Yeah we know WoW proved you can be successful if you copy ideas but that was 2005, this is 2010. If mmos are to be better then developers must be creative and do their own thing.
Hate:
1. Instances.
2. Lack of engaging open-world pvp with purpose, challenges and consequences for psycopathic behavior.
3. Blue-drop rewards for quests as opposed to player-driven economy as the source for gear,
4. Botting & gold-selling frequency.
5. Lack of non-instanced housing.
6. Rediclous character names with characters.
7. Lack of looting player corpse, even if just one item.
8. Non-dynamic pve mobs that are tethered to a radial leash.
9. Class system as opposed to skill system.
10.Not being able to role-play a farmer, build a farm and water-system.
Those are just some, which is why I'm following Xsyon. http://www.xsyon.com/home

Well, the thing that bothers me in MMOs is the community. I dislike that there are so many immature players on so many different MMOs. It seems you have to search forever in order to find the perfect MMO with a community that is respectful of its players.

I look at the responses on this thread and I shake my head. All your complaints seem so trivial to me.
If the community is bad, why not leave that chat channel and join a good guild? Problem solved.
Instances? Who cares?
The thing that will make me quit an MMO is that it's no longer fun.

Well, this is what makes gaming great. Lets say you like McDonalds like WoW or Allods; many dont find that nutritionally entertaining. For you it might be fine, and there is nothing wrong about liking pve-centric themeparks.
But then there are many that have issues with some elements of varying types of mmorpg's available. So we should be scrutizined for not "jumping off the bridge"?
Which is why i am looking for something less restrictive and more player-centric, and is why I dislike:
1. Instances.
2. Lack of engaging open-world pvp with purpose, challenges and consequences for psycopathic behavior.
3. Blue-drop rewards for quests as opposed to player-driven economy as the source for gear,
4. Botting & gold-selling frequency.

Server is shutting down for patch and massive roll back..
I hate so many things. If I fully responded it would be the mother of all rants. So I will limit myself to my least favorite thing:
Lack of mystery
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests
The lack of mechs.
This pretty much sums it up. Well played, Cripnoah, well played.
1. Mounts - Yeah they look cool but I prefer fast travel or map travel as many would call it. Taking an hour to get from point A to point B is annoying and really old school of thought.
We're supposed to be in a fantasy world. Worlds are large. To travel around worlds you need transport. Thus we get mounts. Some classes can fast travel, such as Wizards or Druids in EverQuest. But sure, travelling, why would we want to do that? I'd hate to see the size of the world I'm in and have some adventures on the way to where I want to be. Why don't they just have a button next to the quest that teleports you to the boss mob, so you can quickly kill it then move on. Yeah, we could call it Streetfighter the MMO.
2. Fedex quests - Can we be more original please ?
These are throwbacks to the old days of travelling, which you obviously hate to do. When running from one side of the world to the other to do the quest wasn't the actual point. The point was the fun you had on the way, the people you met, the places you stopped at to deal with a few encounters and gain some experience. New games think, "Well those games had fedex quests, so we should..", without putting an interesting world in place to make them anything more than tedious.
3. Why does everything have to be so tedious ? Is it to stretch that almighty monthly fee ? Real life is tedious enough, mmo games that we should enjoy should not be that way.
It's all tedious because the games are designed badly. It's tedious because you're tethered to a leash and pulled along by the nose, forced to do quest after quest when there should be a million and one other things that you could be doing.
4. If you are copying someone else games just fold up camp right now because times are different now. We do not need anymore Everquest clones.
Huh? What? Ahh! You're just trolling. You are just trolling, right? Because I don't know of any EverQuest clones. There are tons of Warcraft clones, but EverQuest? If there was an EverQuest clone then I'd be playing it.
5. The holy trinity of mmos needs to be broken. We don't need dedicated healers and tanks anymore. The tank and spank concept needs to be changed.
RPG's have always been based on the AD&D system. Thus you get your fighter, cleric, rogue and wizard. It's possible to have a different type of RPG of course, such as Shadowrun which has a variety of character builds, or Vampire, or even Warhammer which has a ton of classes. However, it's easier to make a game based off AD&D because you know how people are going to deal with being damaged, where the offense is going to come from and how to balance it all up nicely. The other games you would need to make very specific content so as not to make it soloable by all, or a total party kill encounter if grouped.
At the end of the day, when damage is being dealt, you're going to need someone to heal it or the encounter is going to be too easy or too hard. To balance for all possibilities would be near impossible.
For me, there's only one thing I hate in MMO's and that's Single Player Gaming. Game's that are based off a single player game, which are straight lines with quest after quest, that you don't need other players for, where you can reach max level without even talking to another player, with no real danger and overblown rewards. MMO = Massively Multiplayer. I want to see, interact and have fun with other players, otherwise whats the point? It's like logging on to a Call of Duty multiplayer game and playing only against bots.
1. Tab targeting. That you have 100% to hit the selected target insted of real time aiming
2. lack of true snadbox games worth playing sens SOE killed SWG
.....................................................
I can't think of anything else. Yes the old tank- damage -healing is starting to be quite old. But we can never avoid that as long as we have tab targeting based combat. Or as long as we have traditional group PvE bosses with one billion hitt points.
It's time for MMORPGs to start to steal from the FPS games now... And I would not mind if that would be Counter Strike.
1: bad community. joking is fine but joking to, deliberatly, upset someone is annoying.
2: when party members do not know his or her role and screws everyone over. happened today in WARhammer; the dps thought he was a tank.
3: elves. i am just so tired of them, not sure why...lol.....
4: people saying 'this game will die soon'. AC, DOAC, EQ1 are still around.
5: Linearness. It's an MMO so you need to make sure it is branched out.
6: 15/month. I would love even just 1 dollar off.
7: Lag...that shit screws me over like that one time I found out that the girl was actually...wait a minute...I said too much...
I agree with Tab targeting. That is one thing I do enjoy about sandbox games. I am not all for them, though I do play DF here and there, I would like targeting to chance. If I fireball is coming at me I should have the chance to dodge it.
Things I hate:
1. Huge timesinks required for progression.
There are many types but the worst are (a) Being passed from pillar to post on some epic fedex quest; (b) kill a trillion of these mobs; or (c) "skill" based games that are anything but skillful and just require you to leave your game on auto-swing or auto-swim in order to feel "hardcore" by pwning noobs like 8 months later.
I'm not against epic progression that may require months of perserverance so long as, at each step, it feels meaningful and worthwhile. But if it "feels" like a timesink then it probably is. And mmorpgs are ball-achingly notorious for timesinks to make their content seem more expansive, like a padded bra or a chap stuffing a pair of sweaty socks down his underpants. Nobody is fooled and even when we are, we are doubly pissed when we realise that we've been hoodwinked.
For those that think timesink = hardcore, well I will never understand you people. Pardon my French, but you have got to be out of your fooking mind to think I am going timesink away 3-6 hours a day for some virtual self-esteem or some virtual bonding session when I could be reading H.P Lovecraft or making sweet love to my wife.
2. The worst elements of the community
Elitist pricks, racists, homophobes, potty-mouths, rude people, selfish people, anti-disabled, stupid people pretending to be clever people etc. Yeh sure I put 'em on ignore but they are still out there like hordes of flesh-eating zombies or the pigeon people from Stephen King's 'Cell'.
That's it.

Im with you on that one, if there is one thing Ive learned from playing MMOs and conversing with its communities is that the people are never, ever happy with any of the games that come out, honestly Ive never seen so much petty hate since I was in the military. I try to find things to like about games even games I dont play, but this community is more than happy to completely trash a game off of the most petty crud and the most baseless reasoning. To me, its no wonder why MMOs are, the way they are today; why try for innvoation in a genre full of people you can never satisfy and where the smallest little thing could make or break a game that you just spent years developing.
HEAVEN OR HELL
Duel 1
Lets ROCK!
1. Quest hub to quest hub leveling progressions.
2. Ugly UI
3. Small game worlds
4. When a game doesn't have a global chat
5. Over instancing, Dungeons and pvp mini games are fine but do I really need to have my own copy of every damn zone and interior in a city?
6. FFA pvp (gank centric games went the way of the dinosaur when trammel hit).
7. Meaningless crafting (Crafting that is useful as you level only to become worthless due to raid items).
8. Raid lockout timers.
9. Not having world raid encounters
10. Being able to solo 100% of the games content to Cap.
11. Skill caps in Sandbox games
12. Games that consider 10 players in a group a raid.
13. Armor/item reward vendors.
14. Daily quests (repeatable quests in place because the devs are cheap and lazy to create new content).
15. Hard modes for dungeons/raids (same shit as repeatable quests)
16. Too many damn quests in Sandbox games.
17. When a faction pvp game doesnt give players a neutral option.
18. Cross server anything (Lets not kill server communities!!!!!)
19. Games that can't get a handle on gold seller spamm in chats (F2p games im looking at you).
20. Insta teleports
21. Quest helpers mods ptu into the game by the actual developer, I mean seriously are we that dumb that we need to be directed to every objective?
22. Lack of options ( sorry but having to choose between farming for gear off a vendor for pvp and pve is not enough).
23. Cash shops that are IWIN buttons in pvp focused f2p games.
24. Bind on equip items.
I can go on and on, Dude i just generally hate most of the genre right now.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
Epic Quest - O cool i just saved every 1 and now everyones cheerings ... 20 mins later ...... Wow he saved everyone in and there cheering for him... i want my own epic quest
No wonder some of you can't enjoy MMOs.
You're like the girl who wants the perfect man. It's never going to happen.
Make do.

I only have one major requirement, that is for the characters to be well animated. If they move like they should, then I can enjoy it. Everything else I might not like as much isnt really important to me.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
I hate
instances
quest based leveling up
lack of any downtime (this includes resting, fast travel, lack of any kind of death penalty)
solo focus rather than socializing/grouping
PvP added as an afterthought
invisible walls and zones
lack of housing
